“I cannot say I am not disappointed,” the wry smile that graces the Tsaritsa’s face unnerves Zhongli. He was expecting her to not give up so easily, but he doesn’t let it show.
She exhales softly and continues, “I would like to propose an alternative then. A contract.”
“Go on,” Zhongli is not too sure if he will be amenable to it, but he can only refuse another Archon so many times before they take offense.
“A marriage between our two countries. Economic prosperity for both our nations. I am willing to supplement your forces with mine and extend them for chasm reopening efforts as well. I am sure that in return the mighty Morax will not shy away from supporting the duties of my Harbingers and Fatui if and when needed, of course.”
“What are the terms of this contract?”
“A marriage,” the Tsaritsa frowns at having to repeat herself. She then gestures towards the door, specifically at her vanguard.

“Yeah, and fat. And ugly. That’s why he hasn’t shown himself to me! He knows what he is.”
Zhongli looked down at himself. “And how do you know this if you’ve never met him?”
“Oh, I know. So are you gonna help me or not?”

“Ajax?” Zhongli placed his hands on his over the car console, to stop them from shaking. “We don’t need to do this, you know.”
“W-we drove for five hours.” Ajax said, voice devoid of emotion.
“And we can turn around and go back home. It doesn’t matter to me.” He said, confident and steady as ever.
Ajax finally met his eyes--he really was beautiful, golden eyes which always looked at him with adoration, his long, dark hair tied back--if it was loose, he’d let Ajax run his fingers through the soft strands, like he always did at night. He was a vision in a camel colored sweater, warmer than the clothes he would usually wear in Liyue. But, they weren’t in Liyue.
They were in Snezhnaya.
...
Or: Ajax brings Zhongli to meet his family. Maybe it doesn't turn out great, but somehow, they come out of it stronger.

Summary
So here Childe is, in Liyue, where his doctor claimed was better for him—the winter did him no wonders apparently—and will be for the rest of his life if his health doesn’t improve. In fact, Childe highly doubts it will. It’ll deteriorate from this point onwards, and it’ll be something that he has to go to the grave with because who the hell wants to know that he was the Eleventh Harbinger, let alone one that pretty much shot himself in the foot? No, Zhongli doesn’t need to know things like that, and less so when he probably doesn’t understand it. Besides, knowing where he came from would probably be a ruthless topic to broach to begin with.
Zhongli is just an innocent bystander. Childe can’t involve him in his stupid life.
OR: Pre-Osial In which Childe is the one who retires from the Harbinger life and Zhongli, still the Great God Morax, is the one who doesn’t know about his identity.

Zhongli hums, petting Childe’s face with his thumb as the rest of his fingers hold his chin in a strong grasp. “I need to know before we start, baobei.” The endearment sinks into Childe, the only endearment he allows Zhongli outside the bedroom, the sweetest of them, the most intimate.
“I saw you earlier,” Childe—Childe, the Harbinger of the Tsaritsa, not Rex Lapis’ subject—answers and Zhongli hums with interest. “We were heading to Ritou from Dornman Port and I just wanted to see you for an hour or two. Or five. Or a day.” Childe grins and Zhongli chuckles. It encourages him to continue. “But almost the entire docks were empty, celebrating another of your trillions rites. And then I saw you. In your Archon form, powerful, marvellous, seeping this aura of authority into the crowd of your followers. And I—” Childe inhales. “It got me all hot and bothered. I wanted to be one of them, for a moment, and serve you.”
Or: Zhongli and Childe manage their long-distance relationship, feelings and responsibilities—and kinks.

“You feel that you’ve been ignored?” Zhongli started. He posed it as if it were a question though it seemed clear that he already knew the answer was yes.
“No,” Childe denied regardless. He didn’t owe Zhongli this conversation after being ignored for so long. Perhaps it was counterproductive and childish, he knew that, but Tsaritsa be damned he wasn’t going to give in to Zhongli’s charming appearance and sultry voice that quick.

Summary
Whenever Childe returns home, memories of the past inevitably resurface. This time, he's bringing Zhongli with him to meet his family, and hopes for a smooth visit. However, his mind refuses to co-operate, and it becomes more and more difficult for him to conceal the beast within.
Behind Childe, the kitchen door creaks open, and Mother’s voice rings into the hall.
“Oh, hello you two! Sorry I’m a bit late, I was just getting everything thrown in for dinner.” She spreads her arms and pulls Childe into a hug. “Ajax, it’s always good to have you home.”
“Same, Ma, it’s always—” Childe pauses as her scent hits him. Thick and spicy, with a hint of smoke. It seeps through his sinuses and his heartbeat accelerates, his breath catching in his throat. His head spins and he grips her tighter as the floor threatens to fall out beneath his feet, sending him tumbling down, down, down…
Mother laughs, reeling him back in, reminding him that the floor is still safely beneath him.
