Summary
Annabelle silently sits down on the wet grass. Heedless of the rain, she thumbs through the notes, expression glazed not with avarice, but with something distant and dreamy. Josie leans over her shoulder, trying to examine the bills, to study the paper that could change their lives.
“Well?” Josie asks. “What do we even do with this money?” She looks down at her trembling hands. It could’ve been a one-time thing. It should have been. But they always want more, don’t they, the pair of them? They’re always too hungry. Hungry for something she doesn’t care to dwell on.
“I’d have thought it was obvious.” Annabelle gazes off into the horizon. Who knows what visions of fire and brimstone were flashing before her eyes?
Never Give Annabelle a Gun, rewritten as a southern gothic.

Summary
She knew back then, privately, that there was no way she’d be able to maintain the house on her own. Her son and daughter-in-law are dead; her children are dead. The thought chokes her cold, squeezes out the air from inside her lungs. She has no idea what the future will be. There’s nothing left to do but wait for it to unfold. The year is almost done, and a good year it might have been. And so now Fifi Finch stands alone in her flat on the sixth floor of the Manchester Forest Heights council estate.
Except she’s not alone.
Asleep in the sole bedroom is Montague Finch.
And asleep within him is a monster like no other.

Summary
The officers are scouring for something amiss, anything at all. The slightest suspicious behavior. (You think it’s funny. What defines suspicious to a row of Porcelain Police?) Those dubious Verminfolk, those nefarious hobgoblins…the officers are ostensibly stationed here as part of a daily rotation, but a few ears to the ground caught whispers of increased tea activity in the area.
It is their job to wait, and watch, and listen. The tea will follow. (It always does.)

Summary
The town is stifled by midsummer heat, the kind that hazily creeps into minds and leaves a sheen of desperation on everyone's skin. Ethelle plants her feet in the grass, her sandals left somewhere near the riverbank, and she's looking up at the walls of castle ruins with a purpose hidden in her furrowed brows. She’s pretty sure the demon she’s hunting is hiding there, and she’s trying her luck at spotting it without putting any actual effort into finding it. Just as she’s about to sigh heavily and walk back to find her shoes, abandoning her mission for the rest of the afternoon, she hears a soft voice behind her, speaking perfect English even though she’s long left England.
“It’s marvellous what humanity is capable of, isn’t it?”

Summary
"And I saw you, my dear Lucy, as you should have been, but never were. Your face lined with the caress of time, your hair, shining as ever, but streaked with grey, your eyes my dear were the same as always, and they shined on mine just as they did then, in that parlour room by the fire."
Found in Mina Harker's journal, a letter left unsent, addressed to the long deceased Lucy Westerna.

Summary
Jamie shuffled slowly into the room, a mug pressed firmly against his chest. His face was scrunched up into a yawn, the heel of one hand rubbing against his eyes, and he ambled blindly into the room, his footsteps muffled by his fuzzy slippers.
The Doctor could have sworn those had been his slippers, once upon a time. Jamie must have carried them out with him one morning, and never gotten around to returning them.
He should have been irritated by the thought, surely. It certainly shouldn’t have warmed his chest.
“Hello,” Jamie mumbled at last, blinking sleepily up at the Doctor. “Did I wake ye?”
Given a few more moments, he might have – but Jamie didn’t need to know that. “Ah – certainly not.” Pushing himself up a little higher, the Doctor rolled his shoulders, easing out the stiffness in his back. “Hello, Jamie.”
A few months into their travels, Jamie has made a habit of visiting the Doctor's room after a nightmare. The Doctor wonders just what it means for them to find comfort in each other.
