Κρήτη, 1955
Όταν ήταν μικρή η Βασιλική φοβόταν τη φωτιά. Μια σπίθα από ένα μαγκάλι είχε πάρει τους γονείς της και μαζί είχε πάρει ολόκληρη τη ζωή που ήξερε.
Μεγαλώνοντας πλάι στους αυταρχικούς θείους της, που της απαγόρευαν οποιαδήποτε φοβία ή αδυναμία δεν είχε άλλη επιλογή από το να κάνει τη φωτιά σύμμαχο της. Τα βράδια που ακόμα κι αν δεν έπρεπε, διάβαζε κρυφά χάρη στο καντήλι που ακουμπούσε πλάι στο κρεβάτι της η φωτιά δεν ήταν τόσο κακή.
Όταν στα δεκαεφτά της η ζωή της αλλάζει ριζικά για ακόμα μια φορά, και καταλήγει ψυχοκόρη σε ένα σπίτι που δεν ξέρει, σε ένα μέρος που ποτέ δεν έχει επισκεφτεί καταλαβαίνει πως κάποιες φορές, η πιο επικίνδυνη φωτιά είναι αυτή που καίει μέσα σου.
