“I do not believe-” He pursed his lips, swallowing his objections. “Yes, sir. Of course. Three sessions of the treatment should be adequate.”
“Whatever, Spock. That’s fine. Let’s get back to my quarters and get this stuff on my hands already.”

Jim’s request, when it comes, is slid smoothly within the rest of his chatter, inserted casually enough that it would be easy to dismiss as one of the captain’s jokes, should he want to. But Spock has spent a great deal of time attempting to decipher Jim’s normally well-disguised tells; he sees the way Jim’s eyes slide to him, careful and assessing, when he says:
“I don’t know, Spock, can’t we just. Go somewhere? Rent a car? I can’t—“
I can’t stay here, he doesn’t say, but Spock hears it all the same.
It is an illogical, emotional suggestion made by an illogical, emotional man. And yet—
(There is always an ‘and yet,’ with Jim—)
Spock rents them a car.

At the ages of six and seven, Jim and Spock have accidentally formed an unbreakable t'hy'la bond. This is not a problem at all in Jim's opinion. He loves being mind-married to Spock, which is a fact he will share with anyone who will listen.
However, no one seems to take their bond seriously.5 times people didn't believe Jim was married, and 1 time someone accepted it right away.
