“The color or the rock?” I tease, earning myself a low staccato noise not unlike what a human might sound like when faking a laugh.
And then, from one second to another, he straightens. I sense the shift in the air, and as I rise from my squat, his gaze follows me very, very slowly.
“What?” I ask.
“Say name of this again,” he says, and I tilt my head. He’s never needed me to repeat something before. His hearing is immaculate, and he’s never once forgotten something I’ve told him.
“It’s a rock.”
He doesn’t move. He stares at me with his featureless face until even that feels more unsettling than eye contact.
“Grace,” Rocky says flatly. “You are fucking kidding me, question?”

“No… All Rocky plural, wear clothes.”
The silence is so thick Ryland doesn't even think a knife could cut it.
He stares at Rocky, even though the alien doesn't have eyes. “ So you're a nudist…?”

”What? Just save it for my next movie. Give me time to refine my romancing skills, boom we immediately fall in love, and Colt will be licking his wounds by next summer.” How embarrassing is it to admit out loud that The Tom Ryder needs time to romance someone. Usually his presence alone has people begging for his attention. In his defense, how could’ve he known that grace incarnate would visit set on a random Friday? Soulmates need more than three days to cultivate, Ryland has patience. He’s a great listener, not to mention that he lived with Colt. Yeah. Whoosh. A person like Ryland has high standards, and Tom obviously meets them of course, he just needs to showcase his abilities.

Grace had noticed it when he woke up. The uneven skip in his pulse, the pale pallour of his skin, the exhaustion tugging at every atom in his body. But he held it together. He’d thought maybe, if he took it easy enough, then the pebbles wouldn’t even notice.
And then he fainted, and snapped his arm in two places on the landing. When he’d woken up, he’d been so out of it and confused, dizzy as his weak heart struggled to get blood up to his brain, that he’d sobbed and babbled incoherently. It scared the pebbles a lot. Who could blame them, really? Nowadays, they still act like they’re walking around eggshells around him, like he’ll snap at a moments notice.
One week after that day, Rocky had scheduled an intervention, and asked him to leave.
