But if they confess now, the tragic death of the so-called Nublar Six will be written off as the incompetence of two camp counselors, and no one will ever think to go back for them. Dave and Roxie will probably never get another job in their life — but a million times worse, the kids will be left alone, abandoned on that godforsaken island, their chances of survival dwindling with each passing day... No sane soul would even try to save them.

Following the Nublar disaster, Dave and Roxie are arrested and interrogated by the government for their actions on the island — including their fateful decision to abandon the kids. They hope they’ll be out of there soon, but it quickly becomes clear the government has far more in store for them that will push their willpower to its absolute limit.

He whispered it into his pillow at half past twelve at midnight, traced it onto his wrist in soap suds in the shower, scribbled it onto scraps of paper when he felt particularly daring. (He doesn’t feel daring now. Not at all.) It would be so easy, take two seconds, to just. Say it.
But something about the kitchen table, or the way his parents look at him, buttons back every word from his lips, and he can only stare at the bumps on the dinosaur-patterned tablecloth and curse his stupid mouth for being unable to say two simple words.

“Ben, are you sitting in a moving car?!” Darius blurted out immediately instead of answering. Now Ben groaned loudly. “Maybe,” he sighed drawn-out. “Ben, we’ve talked about this: You have to stop talking on the phone while driving! Especially at night!” “It’s still light out!” Ben defended himself immediately. “Yeah, but I’m hanging up now, okay? Call me when you’re safely home,” Darius said, trying to sound reassuring. “All right,” Ben snorted. “Say hi to Kenji and—WOW—!” A pteranodon. To his left, right next to him. Instinctively, Ben’s eyes closed, and the last thing he heard was a horrifying screech of screeching tires, followed by a loud crash, before everything went black.
This is the first fanfiction I've uploaded here, and even though I only like oneshots sometimes, this one is probably a oneshot—simply because I just wrote it this evening.
The story describes vomiting caused by a concussion (not in great detail), if that's a trigger for you, just don't read it. -
