Summary
A remarkable "braided novel" of 8 stories and novellas which Macedon wrote in tandem with the equally remarkable Peg Robinson. Too sprawling (in the grand sense) in scale and reach to reduce to a mere synopsis; let us just say that this is Voyager unfettered and red in tooth and claw, such as Paramount with its nice tidy pander-to-the-demographics mentality could only dream of producing. Faith, community, alienation and belonging, honest conflict between Maquis and Starfleet, and the realities of life far from home and safety. These are just a few of the things Macedon and Peg handled with discretion and grace.
From Macedon: I recently learned that my friend of many years, Peg, passed away in her sleep September 3, 2024. If you were or are a fan of the Talking Stick series and Peg's fiction, please think softly on her and light some sage or tobacco in her memory for the wonderful stories she gave to us.

Fowler drags Mizu along to an upper-class party in London, claiming that one of her targets will be attending. Mizu loathes every moment of it, from the dress she's forced to wear to the puffed up noblemen she's forced to rub shoulders with, but she's willing to grit her teeth and bear it, if it means getting her hands on one of the men she's been chasing.
That is, until Fowler lets slip that he only brought her there to try to get her to "loosen up", and that her target was probably never going to show up. Letting her frustration get the better of her, Mizu decides to put him in his place.
