Yuuji rolls his eyes, unimpressed.
Sukuna’s hands fly to his head, fingers pressing into his scalp, the points of his thumbnails pricking Yuuji’s tear ducts. It’s the barest touch, but it’s enough for tears to spring in Yuuji’s eyes, for him to blink rapidly until they bead on his lashes. He stares at Sukuna through it, unmoving and defiant.
“I’ve taken these before for such insolence.” Sukuna leers, glutted on the memory of Yuuji’s pain. “I like to eat pretty things.”
“You won’t take them again.”
“Oh?” His human eyes are half-hooded. The ones in his mask stay wide and lidless. All of them are on Yuuji. “Do you think you can stop me?”

“Wow, you’re so lucky, Yuuji,” Nobara says the first time they part ways post-mission since Dr. Ieri told him she has more important people to fix. “If I could heal myself, I’d be unstoppable.” She waves goodbye at him as she heads to the med center, leaving him standing alone in the hallway.
Yuuji doesn’t feel unstoppable. He feels like Sukuna has his clawed fingers wrapped around his heart and is squeezing.

But as of late, a new habit wormed its way in his peaceful everyday life. He wakes up every night in a cold sweat gasping for air. After waiting with bated breath, he hears the sounds of Kagura and Sadaharu's breathing coming from the closet. 'They're here.' No longer able to sleep, he throws off his covers, gets dressed and picks up his bokuto.
The spring night is cold and his breath clouds the air before him. He stands in a pristine meadow, almost in a daze.
And underneath the moonlight, he starts a fervent sword dance.

No fireworks this time, and no festival. Just him, Takasugi -- armed, as always -- and a crowd of blissfully unaware market-goers. 'Damn', he thought, no real heat behind it. 'The brats are going to think I dumped them for booze. I really don't wanna hear it tomorrow.'
But he didn't fight the hand and sword guiding him from the possible witnesses. Didn't put up a front of resistance when sighting the floating vessel. Not a peep of protest when Takasugi demanded to be left alone with his 'guest', the blond woman's pretty face twisting in a mixture of heartbreak and disgust, alike.
He drew the line at cheap alcohol, though.
