He stared at her, not processing what she just said. He looked deep into her eyes. Kneeling there, he remembered looking down into her eyes on their wedding day, holding her tiny, trembling hands in his, returning her brilliant, beaming smile with one far too small of his own. His heart had been pounding in his chest, he’d hardly heard the pastor’s words over the swishing of blood circulating through his ears, and to this day, it was the happiest moments of his entire life.
