Martha huffs a laugh. “I thought you were going to say he was your secret brother or something”.
The Doctor looks at her exasperated.“You’ve been watching too much TV. But, now that you mention it.”
The Doctor draws in a deep breath and rubs his jaw “I guess you could say, he’s my husband.”

“You don’t want to?” Ilya’s eyes are bottomless; swimming with grief. He says it like he really means, You don’t want me?
“That isn’t what I mean,” Shane says gently, brushing his thumb over Ilya’s cheekbone. Ilya’s eyes flutter shut, as if being treated so tenderly causes him physical pain. Like he isn’t used to it. “You’re hurting. I don’t want you to regret it in the morning.”

Summary
Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.
The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.
It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.
There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.

“A baby.” Shane breathed out. “Can you believe it?”
“Yes, I can,” Ilya said, voice croaky and muffled against Shane’s chest. “We have a lot of sex.”
“Asshole.” Shane swatted him and Ilya finally drew back, meeting his husband's smile with one of his own.
“So that food poisoning you had last month.” Ilya considered.
“Not food poisoning I guess.”
“That means we can add Al’s Sushi back into our rotation! Their spicy Salmon roll is so fucking good.” Ilya asked, his mouth practically watering.
“Ahh, probably not any time soon, and I'd really love to not talk about raw fish right this second if that’s okay.” Shane’s eyes drifted down to his abdomen, a flash of queasiness crossing his face.
Ilya let his hands fall to Shane’s belly, spreading them wide across the warm skin. “A baby.” He murmured and Shane sighed into him. “God I love you so much.”

Shane and Ilya attend All Stars weekend, fully intent on just enjoy versing each other for the first time in years, only to leave with much more than broken records and the chance to revisit their old rivalry.

As soon as Shane shut the door, tears flowed down his face. The morning sickness, fatigue, sensitivity to smells all led to one conclusion: pregnancy.
He and Ilya were safe. They used protection. Nothing could explain this except for the fact that condoms are only 98% effective.
