Summary
In 1347, a ship arrives bearing books and news from the east. Aziraphale, a Cistercian monk of Tintern Abbey, travels to collect his books. There he meets a lazy-hipped, red-haired sailor and has the strangest feeling that he knows Crowley, that they have met once. He just cannot remember at all.
Or, all love stories are ghost stories. And to tell a ghost story, something must have happened before.

Summary
Whenever Aziraphale missteps, Gabriel’s abusive punishments escalate. Aziraphale relies on Crowley for comfort, but eventually realizes that Crowley is being abused in Hell and needs help too. Aziraphale and Crowley learn to trust each other, to lend a hand when needed, and later to heal together.

Oh, if only Aziraphale were the two-dimensional service dispenser many of his patrons mistake him for. But alas, he is a victim of the common human malaise that is having a rich, complex inner life.
