    Summary

(Written for Rook who lives in my inbox and inspired by the knight Avery post by sacchariferouspoet on Tumblr)
Inherent kindness did not exist. Not as far as Derek was concerned. As the crown prince of the Empire of Quelen, people were never kind to him unless they wanted something.
People were either sycophantic damn near to the point of insulting, or as rude as possible while leaving room for plausible deniability. They hated or loved him for the crown, he was not a living being as far as they were concerned.
That is what he believed until Avery waltzed right into his life and sat down and refused to leave, not that he wanted him to leave.
Why would he want the only one to make the world seem bearable leave?

    Summary

Higuruma did his best to be subtle about his staring, but he did enjoy tracing the odd lines and whorls of discolored scars on Nanami’s face and neck with his eyes. The most he knew was that Nanami was in an explosion of some kind. He was not a soldier, firefighter, or convicted arsonist (he’d Googled). And that whoever had done his reconstructive surgeries had either loved their job or loved the man himself with how carefully they’d put him back together.

Higuruma really wanted to know what those scars felt like, oddly enough—purely out of his own sick curiosity, of course, but he would never ask. His favorite flaw he could find was how the corner of his mouth on the left side was twisted into a permanent ghost of a smile, which hardly suited the finance professor and entertained Higuruma to no end.

    Summary

Flins is fae. The reality of that does not occur to Rerir. That is — until he has his name stolen.

Suddenly, he finds himself in a desperate search for knowledge — what else can this man do? And how can he turn the tables?

Meanwhile, Flins is feeling just as desperate — what are the bounds of this power? What did he trade for it? And why can't he remember?

"The death which you fought so hard to defy is mine to conquer by nature." Flins purred, his eyes glowing that eerie cat-like yellow. For the first time, Rerir saw what so many others did when they set eyes upon him. "Do you fear the dark, Rerir?" He understood why so many would answer 'yes'.

"The dark is my dominion." Rerir insisted, his mouth curled in a snarl.

"The dark belongs to no man. One day it will swallow you whole, and spit you out." He leaned in closer, a gentle smile flickering across his face. "You'd best pray I am there, when that day comes. I don't think many others would light a lantern for you. Rerir," he continued, with the force of a name owned, "sleep."
