“Fury and I went to take a look at that classified power source,” she took a bite of the muffin, it was good for the mass-produced kind.
Natasha hummed for her to continue, eyes still closed.
“And there was this portal that opened up but it was dark and we couldn't see anything in it,” she took another bite and watched the redheads breathing slow, “but then there was like this office that we could see into.”
She finished the muffin and threw the wrapper away in the trashcan by her door, “And in the background, there was this writing on a whiteboard but I think I wrote it down wrong because for the last five hours I have been coming up with nothing. Or maybe it was just office stuff. Oh and I think I might be going crazy because I saw a kid in front of it before it closed.”
Or: What happened if before Loki emerged from the Tesseract portal, he sent a child through. Changing the course of Maria Hill's life.

Natasha felt her heart settle at the sight of the door. The words on its opaque glass spelled out 'A.D.Hill' in neat calligraphy, contrasting with the warm light of a lamp inside the office. On her brow, the streaked sweat of her nightmare shone in the way that her eyes didn't, haunted by the memory of a man she'd left snoring in her bed. A man she'd go back to come morning.
Natasha didn't knock as she came in.
Or: Post-Avengers Natasha cheats on Bruce with Maria. Things get a bit more complicated than they bargained for.

However Maria expected to spend her weekend, it wasn’t like this—tied to a chair in a Bellagio suite too rich for her blood. Her suit jacket and weapons lay discarded across the queen bed in the middle of the room, leaving her with nothing but a halfway torn, rumpled white dress shirt over black slacks.
She didn't have plans, per se, but her expectations of Vegas are spoiling by the minute. All things considered, the company could be better.
More feminine, in any case.
A low growl expels rancid breath inches from her face. “Who sent you?”

A sound tore out of her before she could stop it, ragged and broken. It was the sound of an animal caught in a trap. It was the sound of desperation curdling in her veins.
She curled instinctively, cradling her injured shoulder, breath coming in short, ragged pulls. Her whole world narrowed in that moment to pain and cold and the smell of damp earth inches from her face.
Her body felt heavy. Immovable. For a second, she didn’t try to get up.
A second was all it took.
The tears came without permission, hot against ashen skin that barely felt temperature anymore. They mixed with rain and mud and tracked down into the dirt beneath her cheek.
She pressed her forehead against the ground, her fingers digging into wet leaves.
“Natasha—” The name broke on the way out. “I don’t know—”
Her throat closed.
“I don’t know if I can do this.”
The admission felt obscene. Weak. Unacceptable.
But it was true in that moment.
“Please,” she choked out, the word a broken, strangled thing lying on the ground next to her, unable to carry itself anymore than she was. “Forgive me.”CW: Survival Horror with graphic injury and death.
