Lan Wangji was awaken after centuries in the modern era by a Jiang Disciple.
While Lan Wangji wouldn't have problems with any of it since the bell can be only used if the Yunmeng Jiang is in grave danger as put in the alliance between the Lan An and the Jiang Founder, Lan Wangji wasn't pleased to learn that he was the only dragon that was awake.
Especially since that means something Lan Wangji didn't want to accept, not now at the very least.
Feelings aside, war seemed to be inevitable.

Fastening his scrub cap, Wei Wuxian falters. "What?"
"It is an old philosophy of cardiothoracic surgery," his attending continues. "What is the most common cause of death in the hours after open heart surgery?"
"Bleeding, sir."
"That's correct. And how do you suppose you control the bleeding once it starts?"
Wei Wuxian pauses, his attending's meaning dawning on him. "You have to... stop it. By hand."
"Precisely," Dr. Xie remarks. "If you learn nothing else from this residency program, know this: a bleeding heart is a silent killer. You have time to handle it..." He rises, snapping the book shut. "...until you don't."
Or: Wei Wuxian was left heartbroken in his fourth year of medical school, unable to keep the best thing he ever had. He's been burying himself under a mountain of achievements ever since.

A large black dog bounds into the clearing, then skids to a stop. It stares at Wei Wuxian, body stiff, tail raised.
A low growl rumbles in its throat.
And Wei Wuxian goes utterly still.
It had been a point of contention between him and Jiang Cheng when they were children. Jiang Cheng had thought he saw no difference between a happy dog with a wagging tail and lolling tongue, and one with aggression in its body.
But Wei Wuxian knew—knows the difference. He knows because a happy dog is one he can run away from, duck behind Jiang Cheng, scramble up a tree and wail for rescue. A snarling dog is something that leaves him frozen.

Wei Wuxian gets locked out of the Cloud Recesses due to a broken rule and a certain stubborn Lan. Neither could have predicted what would come next.

These are starting to look like troubling times, he supposes, considering the rising conflict with the Wen clan, but he has learned very well lately that Wei Wuxian is a highly accomplished and skilled cultivator – no matter how much Wei Wuxian likes to present himself like an easy-going, uncultured, almost unmannered youngster who plays pranks on Lan Wangji and bothers him with a million things. But oh, all those little things with which he nags Lan Wangji… maybe they do actually impress him.
Or: On a hot, hot summer day when they are seventeen, one thing leads to another and Lan Wangji finds himself tumbling around with Wei Wuxian in the green grass somewhere en route to Yunmeng, only mother nature watching them lose any restraint – and that more than once.
