"EW! THE SKIN'S STILL ON IT!" Ena rushed over to a trash can and spit it out, disgusted. Akito couldn't help but snicker a little at the sight.
"Jeez, talk about picky."
"Shut up! You were about to peel it too!" She huffed. "Now where's Mom?"
"Are you stupid or something?" Akito said, "She went out an hour ago!"
"Oh." Ena remembered that it was usually their mom that peeled their fruit, but since she's gone, well...She stared at her pear, then at the peeler on the counter. She picked it up, raised it to the pear's skin, pushed the blade into it...
...And swiped it down, peeling off none of the skin.
"Have...have you never peeled anything before?" Akito said incredulously.
Akito teaches Ena how to peel fruit.

He normally wouldn’t struggle so much with picking something as simple as a present, but Toya had been so good to him that year; definitely more than he deserved. Akito needed to make it up to Toya and show his appreciation for everything his friend had done for him. He didn’t even know why Toya did so much for him and stayed by his side all this time, but that just made Akito more determined to find something of equal value to all of Toya’s kindness.
