Summary
Nearly every morning, Robin wakes up nauseous from nightmares that have more to do with her parents than blood and bone.
Every night before bed, when the walls start closing in on her, shadows turning into fuzzy, unidentifiable shapes as too much oxygen floods her brain, she has to remind herself that she’s not alone, hold her breath and count backwards from ten.
If she screams, someone will hear her.
Or: Robin and Will are back home, but making it out alive is only the first step towards recovery.

Steve, Dustin, Max, Will, Mike, Lucas, El, and Jonathan are on their feet and everyone around them is glaring at them and it doesn't even seem like they notice. Steve beams at Robin, I'm so fucking proud of you. Robin feels her eyes start to water. You made getting this so much harder and so much easier, I love you.
When Robin turns to the audience, she sees Nancy Wheeler giving her the most genuine smile she's ever seen her give from the back of the room. Robin winks back at her before turning back to the principal and taking her diploma.
She starts back toward her seat before stopping and turning to the bleachers. Steve is looking at her with the widest smile she's ever seen and Robin is graduated so what are they going to do to her if she breaks the rules? She runs up to section C row 18 and practically jumps into Steve's arms. He catches her easily and does her the courtesy of not saying anything as she cries, like it just hit her that she survived.

Robin knows that voice.
Steve Harrington is standing about 30 feet away from her, wide-eyed and looking like he's maybe going to pass out, and holy fuck, she’s going to start crying. She’s really held it together, but Steve is here. And she’s pretty sure it’s actually him.
Robin stands upright, legs a little shaky, and Steve seems to reset. Before Robin can even figure out what to process first, Steve is running."Careful!" She hears Hopper yell as Steve grabs her by the waist and pulls her close. Robin finds all the remaining strength she has to literally jump into his arms and bury her face in his shoulder.
"Jesus, you're here," Steve breathes. He holds her like if he lets go, she’s going to slide right back into the lake, right into Watergate. She tries to hold on just as tight.
”I’m here,” she finally sobs. "I'm, oh my god, I'm so happy to see you."

Yeah, there’s a world in which Robin doesn’t make it. But this is the Upside Down, so who really stays dead?

She felt something in her hand and looked down to see a folded piece of paper, a note. The scene filled in around her, walls with stripes of colour, tiled floor, her dented locker on the right, students and teachers making their way through the hallway. She squeezed the paper in her hand and tried to make it disappear. She knew this day well, knew where it led, and cursed herself for ever being so stupid."
