Summary
For as long as Merlin can remember, there has been another voice in his head. Not that kind of voice that makes him crazy - he's not - but as if there is another person sharing his body. It might seems odd, but Merlin is use to it, so it's fine. He likes his voice anyways. After all, what kid wouldn't like having a best friend living in their head? It's only as time moves on that they learn that things aren't always as simple as they seem.

Summary
“I want to go home,” Merlin chokes.
“Come home,” Arthur beseeches him, stretching his arm as far as he can.
He feels the ghost of heat hovering over his palm. He feels it drawing closer until—
“No.”
He opens his eyes and finds Emrys poised over him with wide-spread fingers and bared teeth.
“No,” Emrys says again, this time to Arthur’s face.(Splintered Merlin AU. In a fit of terror, Arthur kills Merlin and regrets everything immediately. Two years later, he gets a chance to make things right when a man calling himself Emrys wanders back into his closest circle. Arthur thinks that he can make Merlin come back to him if only he treats this Emrys the way he should have treated Merlin. Emrys, meanwhile, isn't interested in alleviating Arthur's guilt. He wants to play out his own fairytale; the problem is that there's a dragon in the way.)

Summary
“I’m leaving.” Merlin says, because this situation already cost him his Duolingo streak, and he’s too tired to deal with Arthur when the food Gaius is serving him looks like it belongs on a list of war crimes committed by the Canadian soldiers.
“Where to?” His mentor asks, and Merlin shrugs, before going to his room and packing his bag.
“India. Gaius, I have decided I don’t give a damn, especially not when having to eat that bland food. I’ll be back in three months, make sure Arthur doesn’t die when I’m out.”
“Merlin!” And maybe, if he was younger and didn’t travel back to the past last month, he would’ve actually cared about the ‘eyebrow of disapproval’.
Or, a 1500yo Merlin gets zapped to the past during his vacation to Cuba. You’d think he’s happy to see Arthur again. He’s not.

“If you so much as touch us, Emrys will-“ Merlin's heart nearly stops.
“Emrys?” The king cuts off in turn, confusion in his voice.
“He’s only the embodiment of magic, last of the dragon lords, and is the most powerful warlock that has ever roamed the earth.” There is only silence as the girl's words hang in the air.
Or
Merlin saves two children from execution during a trial and plans to help them escape. No matter what happens.

Summary
And then it hits Uther, like a fork of lightning: "Fine, then, no Merlin for a week."
"Oh, no," one of the knights, Sir Leon, gasps.
Arthur, whose jaw has been hanging open this entire time, finally regains his abilities of speech. "What?" he says. "No Merlin?"
+++
As punishment for Arthur's disobedience, Uther bans all contact with his manservant for a week.
It works out about as well as you could expect.
