Merlin had always hated the silence. It was too easy to get lost in his darker thoughts that way. With Gwaine, there was never a quiet moment. Even when he tried to be quiet, his movements were loud. That is until Gwaine got hurt on the last patrol.

When Grace gets seemingly teleported by means unknown into the SM-13 right as it was nearing The Light, both Simon and Grace have no idea what is happening. Grace knows he was supposed to be in his house on Erid, Simon knows this new guy cannot possibly be a hallucination, and Ava, upon hearing Grace ramble about theories for how he got there, knows that new guy is Smart. Instantly alert, adrenaline flooding through him, Arthur’s body automatically moved in time with his thoughts, his hand fisting around the handle of the knife before his mind registered that the intruder was talking.
“Arthur, stop- it’s me, it’s Percival-” Arthur’s mind registered the voice and he dropped the knife, thankfully before he reached phase three. He bolted upright as Percival’s hands fell off his shoulders, leaving him only able to guess where his knight was in the dark.
“Percival- what’re you doing here?” He flung off the covers and swung his feet over the edge, the panicked adrenaline slowly ebbing from his veins, leaving him with only a clear head. He reached for the scarlet shirt on the bedside table. Percival wouldn’t have woken him unless it was important.
“We weren’t sure what else to do, Sire, it’s Merlin.”
Important, indeed.
Or, the five times Arthur and his knights try to help Merlin and the one time Merlin realizes he deserves help too.

Summary
I do not believe in prophetic dreams. There is no reaching beyond the veil, and there are no gods to send me guidance while I’m trying to rest.
And, most definitely, there are no strange men crying for help in the middle of the night. No one is actually stuck in what looks like a submarine that is slowly filling with what I’m hoping is not blood. Even if I’ve been seeing it every night for the last couple of weeks.
I try to ignore it, at least in my waking hours. I somewhat succeed in it.
…That is, until I see a suspiciously submarine-shaped blob of please-please-please-let-it-not-be-blood through the Hail Mary’s telescope.
Or: the Hail Mary finds the SM-13 on the way to Erid. Everything would be fine — if not for the second, much bigger (and suspiciously… toothy) thing floating in space next to it.

“I don’t一” Simon’s voice is soft and broken and he hates it, he hates the fear permeating his entire body. “I don’t want you to be a hallucination.”
Grace’s faint mumbles and a strange whistling voice die down. Then Grace says, “This is real. It’s real, and we’re getting you out. I promise.”
Simon closes his eyes. He breathes out.
“My name,” he says. His voice is rough with unshed tears. “My name is Simon.”
