Description:

Aziraphale and Crowley take the Grand Tour of the afterlife through every level of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, from Limbo to the Empyrean, with about as much arguing, ineffability, and absolute unconditional love as you’d expect.

Inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy, but offers a kinder portrayal of the afterlife, with a relatively benign version of Hell, a positively fluffy version of Purgatory, and a sincere attempt to portray the planetary spheres of Heaven with an LGBT-positive, hopepunk vibe. Vaguely influenced by Neoplatonic/Hermetic/Western Esoteric concepts, but very much my own take.

My 2019 oneshot Worth Knowing was the spark for this series, and is now more or less a prequel, or maybe a microcosm of this macrocosm.

Notes:

TV Omens season 1 canon-adjacent (like 98% season 1 TV compliant and 94% book compliant). Some book references but this is very much TV Aziracrow with all their angst and vulnerabilities.

This series was completely outlined and about 75% written prior to s2 being announced. I posted all of Hell and Purgatory in the months before s2 aired, and then about a third of Heaven afterward. Even though I'd written more than that, it needed editing and reorganizing, and I stalled out due to job overload. Eventually the news about NG dropped, and that made it difficult to find motivation to work on this for a long time afterward.

I had already firmly planted my flag in the "Fuck NG" camp long before s3 aired. I've now planted another flag in the "s2 and s3 are expensive fanfiction" camp. I hope my series will be of interest to people (like me) looking for s2-3 alternatives, but if you're one of the people who liked s2-3, there are things here that you might like, too.

S3 happened to drop at a time when my job obligations were not so overwhelming. That, combined with my desire to write a different ending, enabled me to get around to editing the ten Heaven chapters I had written but not posted. I'll post them over the next week or so (as of June 6, 2026), and then see what happens with writing the rest of Heaven (another ten chapters, already well outlined).

In the meantime, Purgatory has a very happy ending with no major plot issues left hanging, so if you read the first two books of the series before Heaven is posted, you're not going to be left in suspense. Even if you start Heaven before I finish it, it's pretty cozy and lacking in real cliffhangers.

Thank you for reading! Kudos and comments are always very much appreciated, no matter how long it's been since I last posted!
