Out of The Blue

Chapter 16: Innocent Qs: Miss Mecha?

Notes:

Have a question living rent free in my head: I headcanon Robert to be different from Robbie in using the mech. So, How did Robert handle rescue mission by himself all of those years? The mech isn’t exactly built to fit a lot of people in it and carrying people in its arm would only fit like 2-4 people at most…

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

It has been a…surely unique way to celebrate Pride Month. Some magical explosion in the middle of the city, changing almost half of the male population into female for days now. A bridge had fallen under the weight an entire bus of some hybrid or alien, Fionna doesn’t have the time to figure out which. Apparently, it’s quite normal to have huge difference in size between two sexes, some female could be three-times bigger than their male counterpart. Her and her daughter are tapir hybrids, none of them can fly, she could run fast enough but not with the weight and size her sleeping daughter has.

She almost instinctly run towards the closest body of water, twenty feet under them when Mecha Man swings by with those gears she has seen in mountain climbing, attached to his robot hovering like a helicopter. She quickly scrambles up the makeshift steps, and secure the harness around herself and her daughter. There are others like them clinging to the ropes, fighting for it cuz their life depends on it.

Mecha the robot shots out these grappling hook out of her fingers to those who were left, dragging them toward safety. Mecha man jumps out of her chest plate to help them off the ropes and harnesses, impatient he just detached the entire thing from the robot.

“Thank you Miss Mecha” Her daughter whispers, still half-asleep, the moment the hero detached her from it, helping her climb back into the ground.

“OHMYGOD I’m sorry sir, Mecha Man, I mean-” Fionna pulled her daughter away from the hero, replacing her with the harness the hero just lent them, “Riley, mecha man is a boy!”

Also not the perfect timing to talk about stuff like this!

“But, she’s so pretty mum!”

Honestly? You couldn’t exactly tell if Mecha Man had been affected with the spell too or not. His hair was still covered with the cowl, his neck is always covered so no adam’s apple, and he didn’t exactly have stubbles or moustache even before this entire gender switch shenanigans. The white armor covered his chest and the white belt around his waist made it look small, as always, and his body shape is engulfed by the still too big suit he’s wearing. People just assumed it affected him since someone decided to splash pink paint on the mecha and how small he looks compared to the others. Basic human's female are normally smaller than their male counterparts, right?

--Ⓜ️ “Nonono, it’s okay, ” Ⓜ️ – Mecha Man(?) chuckles, looking through his eyelashes on the mother with a really soft smile. Okay, maybe his voice is lighter than a man? The other option would be a teenager boy whose voice hadn’t break yet. The hero crouched down to get on the little girl's eye level. -- Ⓜ️ “Hey, Riley, is it? I don't mind, boys can be pretty too and girls could totally be a hero too.” Ⓜ️ --

When they are talking, Fionna could see something flying towards them in the distance, but Mecha Man caught it with ease before it could touch any of them. It’s one of the stray debris from the fallen bridge they just escaped from, the hero tosses it aside and shakes his hands, attention still full on her daughter.

-- Ⓜ️ “Do you think I'm a pretty girl?” Ⓜ️ – The girl gapes, in awe of what just happened in front of her. -- Ⓜ️“That’s a very-very big compliment, thank you.” Ⓜ️ -- He smiles, and yeah, her daughter is right, Mecha Man looks really pretty under with the sunset behind him, ignoring the bridge falling under.

The robot behind them shots something out again, small balls of projectors that acted as a shield around them. Mecha Man quickly pulls out a med kit and wrapped someone’s bent leg with a makeshift stick and some sort of neck brace on another person, telling the person’s friend to call for an ambulance and keeps track of her friend.

“Can boys wear pink?” Riley asked, too disappointed and focused on the fact Mecha Man is wearing his usual tone-down blue (pretty much grey), instead of matching with his currently pink mech suit. It’s probably a crime for her, she likes matching clothes with her parents and friends.

-- Ⓜ️ “Why not? Anyone can wear any color they like.” Ⓜ️ -- Mecha Man answers before leaping back into the robot, flying towards the bridge.

Notes:

Another snippets of idea.

Fun fact: Tapirs are heavy sleepers
