Chapter 4: Happy Holidays Pt. 2

Chapter Text

Mikasa’s ears strained, listening to the footsteps that were passing in front of the door. Her breath halted in her chest as they hesitated. The body next to her was just as stiff, just as still, the hand that had yet to let go of her wrist clutching tight enough to make her wince. She didn’t dare shake the fingers off for fear of disturbing the silence, of letting the wanderer outside the door know they were close to finding the two of them.

The hiding closet was normally spacious enough for one person, but two adults who crammed themselves inside in quite the hurry made for a level of cramped that was nothing short of uncomfortable. As the steps passed by again in the other direction, Mikasa stiffened further seeing the shadow of shoes interrupting the scant light that passed underneath the door. For long moments no one moved, no one said anything. The darkness shrouded them until things outside had fallen silent again.

“Do you think he’s gone?”

“Let’s just wait a few minutes to be sure.” The death grip on her wrist released, her arm completely flung away; It took every muscle she had to remain upright and avoid knocking into the wall, making unwanted noise. The sparse lighting from underneath the door didn’t allow Mikasa to make out her cousin’s face, but there was no doubt a scowl was twisting Kimiko’s expression. It probably matched her own. “Seriously,” she hissed, irritation showing. “Do you want to get us caught?”

“Would I be scrunched in here like a pair of twins sharing a womb if I wanted to be found by that imbecile,” Kimiko huffed, not caring about the hair flicked in Mikasa’s face.

“Stop moving around so much!”

You stop moving around so much. The least you could do is give me more space in this tiny dimple. It’s your fault we – I’m – in this situation.”

My fault?!”

“Quit speaking so loudly and duh. Besides the fact that you dragged me in here,” well, maybe she had a point there, “it’s so obvious that you could’ve just taken one for the team and entertained that wannabe beauty queen for a few short days before pretending you never met him once this was all over, but heavens forbid you suffer or be mildly inconvenienced.”

“Okay, that not fair at all. You’ve seen the way he –

“You’re right it’s not fair. Because no one can tolerate Mikasa’s discomfort, herself included, Kimiko, once again, it the one that has to pick of the slack or the sloppy seconds or the hand me downs and endure quietly – no, be thankful for them; yet, I’m the least filial granddaughter.”

“Kimi…”

“Ugh, spare me the pity. And don’t even think about touching me. Move over.” Unsure of how she could see in the darkness, the hand Mikasa extended to her cousin quickly retracted, her crouched body shuffling in opposite direction barely leaving an additional inch between the two of them.

“Kimi, you know how grandmother is. She –

“So do you, Mimi. You know exactly how she is, but whatever. It’s not like this is anything new. I can always count on family gatherings to suck for me.” Mikasa couldn’t really say anything. Apologizing wouldn’t be taken well, and it might not even be sincere. Of course, at the time Grandmother said Mr. Italy would become a prospect for Kimiko instead, all she could was feel relieved that he was no longer responsibility (not that it stopped him from trying) and worry about Eren’s reception by the family.

Outside of mentally acknowledging her cousin wouldn’t be a fan of that decision, she’d given it no more thought. Finally, her secret was out in the open – or rather, the wild, given how well that went over. It’s not that she couldn’t endure, but that Juandissimo’s presence directly interfered with her goal. This was exactly the kind of thing that couldn’t be said either. It would only sound like an excuse and Kimiko wouldn’t want to hear that either.

No, nothing she could say would ease her conscience or make Kimi feel better or even fix the shitty situation. But perhaps she could help take some of the heat off. If the current standoff in the lodge between the “teams” was anything to go by, she could definitely do that much and went to say so when the door suddenly opened, the light flooding in completely blinding both the closet’s inhabitants. Where Mikasa hands immediately went to cover her eyes, Kimiko’s darted out seeking to block out the overexposure.

“Aren’t you two a little too old to be playing hide and seek? The least you could have do is invite me.” The adjustment of her retinas was not quick by any means, still she tried to squint up at the newcomer. Although the voice of her older cousin was clear, the sigh of relief at the decidedly feminine silhouette above them came all on its own. “Shall I offer you my hands beautiful ladies? They are strong enough to stop two bulls. Each. You should have seen me during the running of the bulls.” It was clear who her horrible Italian accent was meant to mimic.

“You’re not funny, Mei Ling.” Kimiko was the first to exit, brushing off and righting her clothes with Mikasa not far behind glancing around warily despite the twitching of her lips.

“My lady, there is nothing humorous in the moment between a man as sexy and attractive as me and the ferocious anger of a wild beast that could take my life in the blink of an eye.” Mei Mei was not cowed by Kimi’s look of disdain. “The focus I had to maintain while facing down four – no – eight adult bulls with just these two powerful hands of mine…surely, they are large enough to carry my – our – future children and family within them. All twelve of them who will resemble me alone because though my dick is tiny, my seed is strong. Like these bull fighting hands.” The grabby, wiggly motions of said hands were nothing of what was just spewed.

“Knock it off, Mei!” Determined to see her performance to the end despite the burgeoning laughter she held in, Mei Ling fell to her knees, clasping onto the edges of her sister’s short skirt as she tried to get away from the obnoxious teasing.

“My lady! Wait! Don’t walk away from the burning fiery passionate love I have for myself – I mean you!”

“I DO NOT need another show dog trying to hump my leg, Mei!” With that, Mei Ling’s thighs squished into her calves, laughter flowing out through a wide-open mouth. Mikasa, herself, had to look away to hide her smirk at the frivolous behavior. It was a lot easier to find humor in this situation now that she wasn’t the object Mr. Italy’s attentions. “Please don’t mind my sister’s uncouth behavior in the presence of guests, Mr. Magnocavallo.”

At Kimiko glib expression of regret, Mikasa snapped to attention looking around wildly. Mei Ling choked, the air and laughter stopping up in her throat. It wasn’t a sound either of them had heard before. The subsequent coughs wiped the smug expression from Kimi’s face, her and Mikasa finding themselves beating Mei Ling’s back.

“O – okay, okay! You’re gonna throw my back out.”

“Serves you right. You play too much.”

“I swear you’d think you were the older sister the way you nag me. I don’t think any of us play enough,” she breathed, clearing her throat. Switching attention, she chirped as if she hadn’t just almost died, technically, from laughter, “Ready to go, Mimi?”

“Go? Go where?” They helped Mei Ling back to her feet.

“To the airport? Isn’t your forbidden lover set to arrive soon?” Mikasa couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the phrasing. She also couldn’t help the smile that bloomed on her face, because it was true. Eren’s flight would be landing and soon he’d be in her arms again. As usual, they hadn’t been apart long but the last few days had been grueling with everything going on. Being at odds with her parents, especially her mother had been harder than she could have ever imagined it to be. Given how close they normally were, it was never something she’d imagined at all.

The frigidness in the air the last two days had her reexamining all she once thought of her mama. Mikasa didn’t understand what there was to be so upset about. Sure, her and Eren’s relationship didn’t start with pure intentions, but she had been an adult for a long time now. If she was capable enough to send across the country for ballet school before she was out of her teens., then surely, she could be trusted with her love life too. What difference did how long it too them to enter into an official relationship matter.

She tried to understand the “anti-Eren” team’s concerns and allay them. At every chance, emphasis on how well he treated her was made clear because that should be their most important thing but ‘If he treated her so well then why was she just a side piece for so long?’ The way Mikasa gasped when those were words were thrown at her. The silence that followed was deafening and all she could do was stare at her mother’s hard expression. To be truthful, the words hurt immensely coming from Mama, but they were also a memory of what she, herself, thought their relationship equated to for the longest time. Being unable to say anything for that specific reason probably hurt more.

It was also then that she realized that nothing she’d said would make a difference to Levi, who responded with ‘being a willing participant didn’t mean she wasn’t being taken advantage of’ when she insisted that everything was consensual. Her father would only side with mother, rebuffing any attempts made to emphasize that Eren love and cared for her and that his agreed to presence was proof of that. And Mama…she was like an impenetrable fortress until her harsh words about being a side piece, a bootycall, a quick tryst whenever he was in the area because the boy knew she would come running if she called – that that wasn’t valuing someone and treating them well spewed forth.

There was nothing that could be said to convince them, so Mikasa resolved that she would simply have to wait and show them. She and Eren would show them the integrity of his character and their relationship while proving the genuineness of their feelings and commitment towards one another. And if that didn’t change anything then…well everything would change. The thought kept her awake for the past few nights, filling her with a visceral dread that made her insides shrivel up in the darkness of the bedroom. Only Eren’s voice could put her at ease. Listening to it truly did wonders in those deeply anxiety ridden moments. It allowed her to believe, wholeheartedly, that he would embrace her tightly if she had to choose. The knowledge of the unfixable rift that would stand between her and those she loved and looked up to wouldn’t shatter her completely because he would never let her go.

Even though it was his music that settled in her mind more often than his actual voice due to him being very busy tying up lose ends for the unexpected travel to talk on the phone, Mikasa still didn’t doubt. Soon he would be in her arms again, calling her name, whispering in her ear, making her heart flutter, and her stomach rumble with laughter and hear eyes melt at the pleasant sight of him, and her fingers itch to hold his, and her body sing with pleasure, and her soul made complete all over again.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a look on her face before, Kimi,” MeiLing stage whispered, breaking Mikasa from the neediness of her emptying Eren meter. Though her tone was anything but serious, the expression she wore was markedly penetrating, scrutinizing. In an attempt to escape, Mikasa’s gaze shifted to Kimiko’s. The disgust that met her finally prompted her to school her expression, though the embarrassed blush would not go down so easily.

“I’m certain I never want to see that look on her face again. Have some dignity, Mimi.”

“C’mon, Kimi. She’s jut excited to see our future cousin-in-law. Don’t be so uptight. I’m sure you’ll be sporting similar expressions when you fall in love.”

“No because if that’s the look she gets a just the mention of him, I definitely don’t want to experience being in the same space as them. And just imagine if Auntie is dead wrong in what she’s been ranting about the anyone who will listen – no offense Mimi – and his energy matches hers. The whole thing reeks of them being one of those couples and I refuse to ever let that be me.” Hiding her grimace, Mikasa realized there would be another reason for her cousin to be annoyed with her as she’d definitely heard that before.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Let’s go. Wait, I’ll meet you downstairs. I need to stop by my room”

“You look fine.” The embarrassed blush brightened.

“I’m going to grab my winter gear, thank you very much!” It was clear that neither of them believed her, but she felt no need to stick around and convince them.

“How much do you want to be she’ll come back with her hair touched up and a fresh coat of lipstick on?” Mikasa could practically feel the up and down of Kimiko’s eyes on her back.

“Come one, Mei. When have you ever known me to take such and obviously losing bet.”

“Touché, baby sis. Touché.”

“I’m not a baby. Get off. I said get off me! Why are you so damn clingy lately, huh?!” Mikasa’s head shook at her cousins’ antics as she left them to do more than gather her coat, scarf, and boots. Sure, it was a little embarrassing to show just how much effort she wanted to put into looking good for Eren after being separated for so many days and nights, but she certainly wasn’t ashamed. So yes, there was a fresh coat of color on her lips and cheeks. Her bangs hag gotten a little heat and were curled around a roller, ready to be removed at the airport. Her outfit had been updated to something blue, the color which she happened to know her honey preferred her in. Thankfully, however, she was spared anymore teasing, all those near the foyer thoroughly distracted by Kimiko and Juandissimo seated in the main den.

It was clear before the rest of the family’s arrival, he had felt uncomfortable around her after she kneed him in his baby dick. Mikasa couldn’t help but revel in that discomfort. He should know how he made her feel after all, but she had to give credit where it was due. The Magnocavallos were still cordial, invested, and good at proceeding as if nothing had gone wrong. On the flip side, the promise of another potential bride, thus a link to the clan, probably played a large role as well.

Said potential bride didn’t bother hiding her disgust when her hand, too, was slobbered over after being introduce as the fourth daughter of the Azumabito Clan. There was also no shame when she whipped it off in from of the Magnocavallos much to Grandmother’s displeasure.

“We live in the twenty first century. There’s no need to try so hard like that,” Kimiko said cordially as she cleaned hand on her skirt. The response gave the guest pause and the family watching waited with baited breaths.

“Uh – our Juandissimo, here, tries hard in everything he does,” Vittoria smiled, patting her son’s arm lovingly.

“Sounds tiring.”

“Kimiko!”

“What? Are we not simply having a conversation, Grandmother?” Kiyomi gave her granddaughter a look saying she knew exactly what she was trying to do. Kimiko smiled her and then the guests. “I mean, it must be very taxing having to put forth you best effort twenty-four-seven! The energy it must take.”

“Ah but working hard is how we get stronger and improve ourselves to top form.” Juandissimo grinned arrogantly, clearly pleased at what he said.

“Hmm, I suppose that could be true. Not everyone can have effortless talent and ability or even flawless looks! I think, it’s very admirable that Mr. Magnocavallo here –

“Please, just Juandissimo is fine.”

Ahem. It’s admirable that you don’t let your failures overtake you.”

“Failure?” Confusion distorted his national treasure of a face.

“Why, of course! Here let me explain it to you. It’s very simple.”

“There’s no need for that Kimiko.”

“Oh, but I think this guy right here wants to hear what I have to say, Grandmother. Aren’t you curious, sir? I think it could be quite the nugget of wisdom.”

“There’s really no need to be so formal, my lady, and I am always open to listening to the whims of beautiful lady.”

“Whims? We’ll see about that when I’m done. Listen closely, sir. People with natural ability don’t have to try hard in everything they do because they succeed where they excel and know their limitation. If they are competent then they’ll find good people to pick up the slack where they are lacking. From those people they learn and improve. They work smarter, not harder which in turn requires less energy because trying hard with everything means succeeding at nothing. Failure.”

“Kimiko!”

“So, I just think it so commendable of our guest here to put so much effort into…well his failures.”

“Kimiko that is enough! Please forgive her discourteousness. I really don’t know where –

“Come now, Mother.” It was Uncle Shohei who stepped out of the stupor first, his easygoing smile, doing most of the work to lighten the atmosphere. “I think it was rather nice of her to acknowledge the young man’s diligence, don’t you all?” Mikasa could tell her grandmother didn’t agree in the slightest but held her tongue to not stir things up anymore.

“Uh, yes! Our Juandissimo is quite diligent just as Kimiko seems to have quite a lot of wisdom for someone her age. I’m sure our son could learn a thing or two, right Carmine?”

“It is, indeed, no surprise that the Azumabito Clan would raise such smart and…knowledgeable young ladies.”

The back handed compliments and insults said in simultaneously obvious and misleading way were remarkable. Mikasa admired her cousin’s ability to boldly make her thoughts and opinions known whether it be by outright stating it or like she’d witnessed. She literally called a guest and idiotic, incapable, try hard to his face in a way that was irrefutable and esoteric. Seeing Juandissimo struggle to respond and needing his parents to take over made the whole thing even better. Kimi was so smart, but Mikasa was sure she was the last person the girl wanted to hear that from, so it was kept to herself.

Instead, she would quietly enjoy the show she no longer had to be apart of. The next scene was definitely in the works if Kimi’s much too pleasant expression ad Juandissimo’s rather enthusiastic yapping, much too deeply in her personal at that, was anything to go by. Slink across the way, Mikasa sidled up to MeiLing and Kuchel who were also watching with baited interest.

“What’s going on with them?”

“My dear masochist of sister asked him about the Mr. Italy pageant – excuse me, contest. He made sure to point out the distinction.”

“If I wasn’t here when she asked the question, I’d mistake his excitement as being asked about his beauty routine,” Kuchel commented dryly.

“Okay, we’ll see where that plot goes soon, I’m sure. In the meantime, I know why Mei is here, but what are you also waiting near the foyer,” Mikasa question coyly, a slow smile unfurling on her face as her arms wrapped losing around her aunt’s waist. Aunt Kuchel had been her biggest and most supportive ally in the house, not counting Shiro who was often disregarded as being “too young” to understand or have a say. It had been Aunt Kuchel who came to her room after that stressful dinner to check if she was alright. She was the one who listened to her vent her frustration and also the only one who wanted to know more about Eren and their relationship. Before everyone else arrived, Kuchel was who Mikasa could talk to freely and safely without fear. It was so relieving.

“I’m just too eager to meet my nephew-in-law.”

“More eager than Shiro?” Her poor younger brother was probably near an aneurysm at this point. Where Kuchel came to her as an aunt, Shiro came to her as a fan. There wasn’t a question under the sun he hadn’t asked her about Eren. Some she straight up refused to answer; some she didn’t know the answer to which earned her disbelieving looks.

“Are you sure you two have been dating for a long time?”

“Shiro, I’m absolutely sure if you asked Eren whether he’d prefer the power of invisibility or flight, he would be more than discuss it with you.”

“But I want to discuss the answer with him, not ask then discuss because then he would know that I don’t know the answer and think I’m not a true fan!”

“You don’t know the answer since you’re asking me.”

“Who would know better than his alleged girlfriend?! I should have the inside scoop here!”

“Alleged?”

“Well, you don’t know which power he’d prefer, you don’t know what word he’d add to the dictionary if he could and what it would mean, and you don’t know whether he’s into boxers or briefs!”

“I know the last one very well, and I said it was none of your business!”

“Ugh, please don’t remind me,” Shiro exclaimed making a yucky face while waving his palm at her to stop before she started.

“You’re the one who wanted to know.”

“It’s a common question, one that doesn’t have anything to do with you!”

“You don’t know that. It could.”

“I give up. I’ll prepare for his arrival on my own.”

Surprising that actually was the last conversation they had on Eren, but Mikasa had seen him scurrying here and there around the lodge. While she was certainly curious as to what he’d been up to in order to “prepare”, her own worries about her boyfriend’s arrival took precedence.

“I don’t think that’s possible,” Kuchel snorted. Yeah, it probably wasn’t. “No, I’m here because someone has to see you two off, tell you to drive safely, and return in one piece.”

“And what am I, chopped chicken liver?” The front door seemed to blow open, shaking a chill through the three women nearest to it.

“Baba,” Mei Mei exclaimed cheerfully, grabbing her father’s hand once he was close enough and swinging it a few times. The two shared smiles that drew one from Mikasa, albeit a sad one. Would her and her father be able to share smiles like that again soon?

“I wonder what I’ve done to receive such an affectionate greeting,” Shohei chuckled, swinging his smiling daughter’s hand in return. “Kuchel, Mikasa.”

“Hello, Shohei.”

“Hi Uncle.” They both greeted him warmly in return.

“You girls ready to head out? I’ve got the car all warmed up and ready to go. I beat Wayen to it,” he whispered mischievously at the end. Mikasa had no idea what that was about, and as far as she could tell neither did anyone else in the present company besides the person who said it, but she nodded all the same, not wanting to take any of his cheer.

“I’d say we’re ready.”

“I’m just the roadie. When you ride, I ride,” Mei Ling said when Mikasa glanced her way for affirmation.

“Good! I’m ready for you to go!”

“Chaoxiang! I didn’t see you there.” Then ten-year-old who had clearly come in after his father looked very cute all bundled up, red-faced from the cold, and scowling up at his older cousin’s lack of awareness.

“Why are you so eager to get rid of us, Didi?” MeiLing’s attempted affections were also looked upon with as much disdain as a the ten-year-old can manage.

“Everyone is all caught up and worried about Mimi’s boyfriend! Shiro won’t even play with me, and I brought all the new games I got for my handheld to share with him but all he talks about it Ayron, Ayron, Ayron!” The snort came all on its own. At least, Kuchel was able to hide her reaction by turning out of Mikasa’s embrace to cover up her expression. “It’s not funny! Auntie hogs mom complaining about it. Grandmother has that stupid head all over Kimi because of him.”

“Chaoxiang, you can’t say that so loudly,” Uncle gently admonished, glancing behind to make sure the ‘stupid head’ mentioned hadn’t heard. Chaoxiang wasn’t having it.

“It’s true and we all know it! Mr. Levi is making scarier faces than usual because Ayron’s supposed to be coming today and that scary old man keeps the tv on ancient black and white wartime documentaries.”

“It’s Eren, Chao Chao,” Mikasa tried to gently correct the agitated kid. “E – R –

“I know! Shiro’s said it enough, but I don’t care! I’ll call him what I want until everyone stops acting crazy! Instead of us being f – festive and having fun, all everyone is talking about is Ayron’s arrival and what they’re gonna do when he gets here and what he’s gonna do when he gets here and the great heritage of our clan going to shit!”

“What did you just say?!” All of their heads whipped around, clearly not expecting to be beat to their exclamations at the coarse language by someone not in the conversation; however, it was just Mr. Italy looking particularly shocked.

“Oh my, why are you so surprised, Mr. Juandissimo. Did I say something…wrong?” The coyness in her tone matched Kimiko’s cheshire cat grin.

“Uh – um, no, My Lady. I just didn’t know that you were familiar with…Emiliano.” Mikasa had no idea who this Emiliano person was, but the way Juandissimo gritted out his name and the tightness she didn’t know his features could exude piqued her interest. Apparently, she wasn’t the only one. Chaoxiang’s frustrated outburst was forgotten in favor of whatever was unfolding nearby on the den couches.

“You’re joking! Who doesn’t know Emiliano! I’m mean, not only was he Mr. Spain three times but he was also Mr. Universe twice as well!”

Ahem, indeed, you are correct. He was…”

“He was! After meeting him I didn’t even have to wonder why. I’ve honestly never met someone so charismatic and well spoken,” Kimiko gushed rather girlishly. “Not to mention incredibly handsome as well. He most certainly did his country proud. I mean his winnings are certainly proof of his talent as well, but he’s just an all-rounder. Intellectually smart, physically gifted – have you seen him play football?! -, a natural philanthropist. I bet he doesn’t have to try hard at anything he does. It just doesn’t get any better than Emiliano. You must tell me what he’s like, Mr. Juandissimo! I’ve only been in the presence of such an admirable man only once.”

“W – well you seem to already know s – so much about…him.” Clearly there was something going on they didn’t know here. Word after word only made Mr. Italy light that glowed confidently only minutes before grow dimmer and dimmer. Mikasa told herself not to care at how ashen his complexion had gotten due to the praise Kimiko showered on this man the two of them knew of.

“Nonsense! I only know what everyone knows about him. Plus, how deeply can you know a person after only meeting them once? You must have spent so much time with him when you were both competing in the Mr. Universe – oh! Oh! How insensitive of me.” There wasn’t an ounce of true remorse in Kimi’s tone. “I shouldn’t have brought up such a touchy subject.”

“Ah, tou-chy subject? Not at all my lady.” Obviously, that was a lie. He could no longer look Kimi in the face despite her very deliberately trying to catch his eye.

“I mean, for any other person, it would be a touchy subject.”

“I am not just any other person.”

“Of course not! You a person who tries hard. I’m sure you tried so hard to win that pageant – I mean competition – only to fail, as try-hards do. Not only did you fail, but it was a loss to Emiliano, Mr. Spain. If I remember correctly, Spain had already won the World Cup that year too. It would’ve been quite the win for Italy if you had managed to bring home Mr. Universe, especially after that last match. But Emiliano had already won it once before so it makes sense that it would be a touchy subject for you since he actually has more experience with excelling in general.” Juandissimo was quiet for a beat too long.

“How kind of you to say, milady.”

“We must be understanding of people’s shortcomings. Plus, telling the truth is a virtue. You can always expect total honesty from me.”

“I see. Thank you.” The gratitude was given stiffly with none of his typical flair. Next, he stood, the movement of his limbs wooden. “If you’ll excuse me. I have to…I think I heard my mother calling.”

“Did you? I didn’t hear anything.”

“I have good ears,” was the last thing he said before disappearing from the room. Kimiko burst into laughter, gazed turning towards her audience.

“Did you all see that?!” They all shared looks as she doubled over, not entirely confused about what she found to be so funny, but not entirely understanding the situation either. “And that,” she began between breaths of laughter, “is you how to take responsibility for things you don’t want to deal with. Hope you learned something, Mimi.”

“Please elaborate, oh wise one, on the lesson that I’ve apparently been taught.”

“I’d prefer to know who this Emiliano guy is.”

“Didn’t you hear? He’s Mr. Spain, and he beat that stupid head, Mr. Italy.”

“Even if he did beat Juandissimo, that’s quite the reaction to have at the mere mention of him, Chaoxiang. I think what your sister is asking is less of who is he and more of who is he to Juandissimo,” Kuchel explained gently.

“Excellent question! Shall I explain,” Kimiko asked, moving forward without waiting for additional prompting. “If you’re going to warm you have to know your enemy well enough to crush them with inhuman cruelty. How might a man like that stupid head be crushed infallibly when he’s got enough confidence to fill the entire Ocean, an ego bigger than the planet, and so much positivity that he’d probably be able to survive a month on good vibes alone? You find someone better than him because the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

“Now, normally such things would take time. Finding that “better” person, pointing out their differences, slowly but surely wheedling your way into their mental until they’re making the comparisons and feeling inferior all on their, but in this particular case it not needed because Juandickamo already knows who’s better than him and I’ve already laid the groundwork to remind him of his mediocrities. Bringing up Emiliano Fernandez was just the icing on the cake after allowing him to talk himself up so much, because sure, he’s great – or so he believes – but he knows that no matter how great he is, Emiliano Fernandez has proven himself to be better.

“Exhibit A is obviously Emiliano beating him out of that fifth spot in the top five contestants for Mr. Universe but also recovering enough to win altogether. Not to mention being given the title of Mr. Congeniality by the other contestants. Exhibit B would be a charity football game put on by an organization they involved in different branches of. The two played the same position, but it was Mr. Italy’s team that lost and Emiliano who scored the most goals. Plus, he was also chosen as MVP of the match. Exhibit C? In a survey of women ages eighteen to thirty-five, asking who their ideal man was, it was Emiliano’s name that came up most and unprompted at that. Exhibit D –

“I think we get the gist,” Mikasa interrupted. As much as she was truly interested in how Juadissimo had been defeat several times in his life by one man and how it was used against him, her eyes couldn’t help but flicker to the clock on the wall with the time Eren’s flight would be landing and how long it would take to get to the airport in mind.

“But do you,” Kimi sneered. “Do you really understand how deeply that inferiority complex in Juandickamo goes when it comes to this one man? To know that someone is better than you in every way, liked better than you when it’s certainly not a competition, so much so that he’s brought up in the unlikeliest of places by the unlikeliest of persons who are supposed to be there specifically for you?”

“I definitely do now. Considered me very well learned.”

“Ugh, come on, Mikasa. You should already know better than to let some loser who just happened to be born in the right family get the upper hand for any amount of time. Honestly, when and where did you drop your pride.”

“Alright, Grandmother.” The dig was very intentional. Yes, that was exactly who she sounded like, but Mikasa could use another person against someone too. Her cousin hated being compared to Kiyomi in any way when the woman lectured her so often. It wasn’t something typical of her, but she didn’t need anyone else questioning her pride or dignity in this house; and how dare any of them anyway when they were made to put such things aside in the faces of guests all just to maintain an image or status quo or to gain something for the clan. Didn’t they already complain about having to make sacrifices? Why was the fact that they handled their responsibilities differently, that she was handling this whole matchmaking situation better than her especially when that asshole seemed to be changing up his tactics for round two, being rubbed in her face like this?

“Excuse me! Grandmother?!”

“Yeah, why are you calling her a grandmother?” Chaoxiang looked between them, frowning quizzically.

“Alright, girls,” Kuchel stepped in, Shohei on the same page as her.

“Because your grandmother is also…very strategic when it comes to tasks she must handle,” he answered diplomatically to his youngest before turning to Mikasa. “Which means it is a great trait to have, but,” his eyes shifted to Kimiko, “it can be a bit much to be on the receiving end of a sermon about it as I’m sure we all know.” His daughter huffed in begrudging acceptance, but expectantly, didn’t make any move to admit any. “But shrewdness directed at the right person is well done and you’ve done an excellent job. I’d expect no less from you.” At the compliment, Kimi fought a smile, her gaze sticking to the floor, but it came through anyway when her father pulled her into his arms.

“Which is perfectly well to me. I’ve already had to give away one of my precious daughters, and now my little niece might be next. I can’t bear another to be stolen from me.” They all softened at his sentiment.

“Papa…”

“Baba…”

“Uncle…”

“Shohei…”

“This is getting really sappy. I’m going to find Mom.” Well, not all of them. Chaoxiang wrinkled his nose as he walked away from the sappiness, throwing his coat on the now vacated sectional when he passed. The moment went as quickly as it had come.

“He’ll understand one day, I’m sure,” Shohei chuckled amusedly. “I do think it’s time for you two to be on your way. We don’t want you driving in the dark for any longer than necessary.” At his comment, Mikasa glanced out the sidelights and noticed that the sun was starting to sink behind the trees. An exhale of yearning passed quietly through her lips. She had been waiting all day to see Eren. Not wanting to look too excited at being so much closer to being with her man again, she made sure to give measured goodbyes and walk at a normal pace out the door. She was all too aware of herself while getting into the driver’s seat, fastening the seatbelt, and turning the ignition.

The anticipation of knowing Eren was coming wasn’t unusual; still, this time felt different. There were so many new variables that normally weren’t a factor to them and their relationship ship. For so long it had been so blissfully easy. Then things got a little more complicated but still no less easy if things such as feelings were pushed far enough aside. Even when those feelings kept creeping to the forefront until they refused to be ignored anymore, things were still easy enough. They could still have fun – man, she’d hated that word – and the lack of commitment made leaving their relationship in shambles very much so and, dare she say, very easily possible.

Even after admitting their deep care for one another, things were still easy. They were still in their bubble. Mikasa remembered wondering if she were in a dream. The fact that Eren loved her deeply as she did him felt so surreal, so unbelievable. When she’d call first after that day, the shyness and timidity weren’t just about talking to her love but even that was easy.

All he needed to do was call her sweetheart. To ask her what was wrong if being lost in her own anxious thoughts made her too quiet. To ask how her day was and if someone upset because he’d be there in however many hours to make sure they knew never to do it again. To tell her he missed her after only being apart for mere hours and how he would love nothing more than to see her face in the morning rather than his idiotic bandmates. All he needed was to be nothing more than himself whom she loved with every single thing in her because loving him was so painfully easy.

Who knew they would be here. For as many times as Mikasa had imagined meeting his family, him meeting hers equalled the tiniest fraction of that. A handful really. She could likely count the number on one hand. It was just something she hadn’t allowed herself. Maybe because she knew that if Eren chose her, his family would too. Maybe because she knew deep down that if her family disapproved of him, their relationship would be over. Of course, not that her imaginings ever depicted that, but who needed one’s imagination when reality was always there to completely wreck it.

Except all that was before he told her he loved her, before they started talking every single day, before they decided that no future was worth it without the other in it. No, this obstacle – her family – would not be easy, but together, they would overcome it. And no, not with the power of love or whatever but because they knew each other. They knew what their relationship was. No plans or schemes or fakeness were necessary. Eren was her soulmate. She was his.

Nothing that happened would change that, but…she wished she didn’t have to consider this situation with new variables that took away the ease and made her even contemplate her relationships changing. The sigh that pushed its way from her lungs was unbidden and out in the air before she realized it. Mikasa froze, already knowing what was coming.

“Well, that was a heavy sigh. I’d have thought you’d be more excited.” At least she’s managed to hide the wince when it came. Glancing over to the passenger seat, she saw MeiLing’s open and expectant expression. “Penny for your thoughts?”

In all honesty, Mikasa wouldn’t normally be averse to talking to her cousin. She was levelheaded and typically they were of the same mind when it came to most issues. Those that they’re opinions differed on typically lead to interesting discussions. But…it wasn’t like they talked below surface level thing. Of course, they checked in with each other’s well-being but even if something wasn’t ‘okay’ or ‘fine’ or ‘good’ it’s not like it would be said or talked about it in detail.

That was just the way things were yet, she wouldn’t say they weren’t close, and if things had been different perhaps this could have been a chance for them to grow closer, but Mikasa hadn’t invited Mei to come along. Until leaving the closet with Kimi, she hadn’t known such a decision had been made. That could only mean Mei was sent as a spy. Grandmother had to have known how obvious a choice that was. Who else would they send that would be more on ‘their’ side than hers and faithfully report whatever was of relevance to the matter at hand objectively.

“My thoughts are more expensive than a penny.”

“What? No family discount?”

“Anything of worth shouldn’t ne –

“Need to be sold at a discounted rate. Yes, yes. Who are you reciting the basics to? It’s just a saying, Mimi. If you don’t want to talk to your older, wiser, more experienced cousin, who has all the knowledge about all the things in the whole wide world then you can just say so. My feelings will absolutely not be hurt, and I will not turn towards the window to hide the singular tear that will run down my cheek at being turned down.”

“Gee, I’m so glad.” Mikasa wasn’t going to be lulled by Mei’s humor.

“So what’s your man like that you’re not even excited to see him?”

“I never said I wasn’t excited to see him!”

“Okay, just a joke. No need to be anxious.” Then stop making me anxious by trying to talk to me is what she wanted to say. Her fingers gripped the steering wheel tighter.

“I’m not anxious.”

“Mhm, sure. So what’s he like? I haven’t really heard anyone mention it.”

“That’s because no one wanted to know.”

“Tell me. I’m asking and want to know.”

“You’ll know what he’s like soon for yourself. I’m sure that will be much better than hearing if from me.” Isn’t that why she came? To see what the two of them acted like when they thought they were without the eyes of others? No, she was not going to fall into a trap. Time to flip this thing around. “How is Jianhong? It’s been so long since we’ve seen him. I thought he would be here this year. Is he still not well enough to travel?” At the question, she didn’t notice the way MeiLing’s head angled towards the window, hair creating a curtain.

“He’s doing pretty well actually, getting better every day. There’s just a lot to do in the company near the end of the year. I know you guys won’t be with us, but he’ll join the festivities for our New Year in a few weeks back home.”

“That’s good to hear. I know how touch and go everything was after the accident, so it’s good he’s bouncing back, and you guys are doing well. Perhaps he’ll plan ahead, and we’ll see him next year.”

“Perhaps.”

The rest quiet outside of the radio MeiLing switched on. While Mikasa hadn’t been counting on it, she didn’t exactly mind if it meant no more fishing. On the other hand, if she hadn’t had something – Eren – on her mind, it might’ve occurred to her to ask further since there wasn’t much said after bringing up what as a sensitive subject for awhile. But it has been a few years and Mei said all was well and the airport was in view, lit by the hues of a setting sun.

It took finding their way around to the runways for private planes, getting permission to enter, and just finding the right place to be in general. There wasn’t much traffic on that side of the airport at that time of evening, so when a small jet became visible in its approach not long after they parked, Mikasa knew it couldn’t be anyone but him. Having snatched the roller from her bangs, she fluffed and adjust them in the mirror, eyes roaming for the slightest imperfections in her appearance.

“Was putting on lipstick really the best thing to do,” her companion asked nonchalantly her eyes flickering from her cousin’s primping to the landing plane.

“What wrong with putting on lipstick,” she asked, trying not to be annoyed because seriously what was wrong wi –

“I imagine it’s going to be all over both your faces. It doesn’t look like a long-last finish.”

“Mei!” That got Mikasa’s attention, but all she got in return for her indignation was a playful smirk.

“What? I’ve heard all about how this relationship came to be and mentally prepared myself to witness a risqué reunion.”

“MeiLing!”

“Is that all you can say? I’ve been married for a few years now and clearly, you’re no blushing virgin, despite you acting like I’ve asked for details of your very active sex life.”

“Please stop.” It had already been embarrassing enough having it discussed around the dinner table. Mikasa was not a prude, but damn it had been made the center of conversation enough.

“I never thought I’d see you like this,” MeiLing laughed.

“Like what?”

“Hmm…in love?”

“I can fall in love.” The response held some defensiveness to it.

“As the class can obviously see. I meant that it didn’t seem like something remotely on your radar which is interesting considering Auntie and Uncle’s union.”

“My parents are outliers. We can’t all have our life partners picked out for us in our early childhood and have them turn out to be so uniquely compatible with us that we might as well be considered soulmates.”

“Are you referring to me and Jianhong? Soulmates? Huh…” The contemplativeness rang alarm bells. She shouldn’t have said that. Now Mei and eventually the rest of the family would know she believed in something considered fanciful. This was why she didn’t want to talk.

“What I’m trying to say –

“That’s a nice notion, but I wouldn’t be so sure. Besides, if we consider how Kimi’s engagement, I’d say that I just got rather lucky that Jianhong and I got along well enough for things to last this long.”

“What about your parents? If you got lucky then they got lucky too.”

“While Baba and Mama are very compatible, I wouldn’t say it’s the same as my marriage. Either way, you do know you’re just proving my point?”

“And what is your point, Mei?”

“My point is that it is very rare for someone to look at the prospect of an arranged marriage with positivity and relief, especially when their parents advocated for the right for them to choose who they wanted to spend their life with.” In the dimming light, MeiLing reached across and gently straightened her younger cousin’s hair in a few places. “Mimi, you’ve always been so taken with your career and education and what you could accomplish or how you could elevate yourself that I never imagined you’d be taken with a person all on your own; yet here you are so concerned with making yourself look as pretty as possible for someone rather than out of duty. It’s nothing amazing or extraordinary but certainly wasn’t on my bingo card. Perhaps that’s what has the family so up in arms.” Her hand fell away, eyes looking out the driver side window. “I wonder what kind of guy managed to evoke change in our ever so consistent Mikasa. Guess it’s time to find out.”

Having not expected such an assessment of herself and from her cousin of people, it took seconds too long to catch Mei’s drift, but a nod behind her had Mikasa turning around. Not far off, the plan had landed, the ladder put in place for debarking, and Eren stood at the top, a duffle bag slung over shoulder. Next to him, presumably, was the pilot who was speaking with a broad smile and shaking his passenger’s hand enthusiastically, but she really only had eyes for Eren.

Would there ever be a time when her heart didn’t flutter at the very sight of him. The thrill caused by firing synapses in her brain at his smile, would it get old? Feelings of peace, relief, and love flourished within her every single time they came back together after being apart. Would they change with time? Mikasa sincerely hope none of it ever would. She couldn’t get out the vehicle fast enough once Eren began descending the stairs, eyes searching and catching her movements.

His gaze practically danced once it fell upon her. Who was to say if it were her or him that picked up the pace first, the distance between the plane and car a quickly narrowing chasm. As soon as he was near enough Mikasa leaped into his arms unreservedly, not caring for a single thing in the world but Eren as she clung to him like a koala would a tree. Kisses swept over his cheek and jaw and ear and eyelids, wherever her lips could meet him.

The sound of his laughter seemed to bring her entire being to life. She couldn’t help it. She just couldn’t help herself. The feeling of being able to breathe again was profound. Had they even spoken on the phone since they last parted, it felt like they’d gone no contact at all. They remained wrapped around one another for several long second, before Eren’s hand was gently directing Mikasa’s face from the scarf bundled around his neck. A deep emerald sea met vast gray skies.

“Hey, sweetheart.” That was his voice in the flesh, gentle and full of affection.

“Hello, my dearest,” Mikasa whispered back, fingers finding the tips of his hair underneath the hat donning his head. Their warm breaths mingled in the cold air, the wind sweeping through the flat plains typical of an airport, not affecting the pair in the slightest.

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you’d missed me.”

“And whatever would give you such thoughts like that?” Though she knew exactly what she wanted to hear, it was just a habit to tease him at this point. That smile of his, boyish and handsome, that made her fall hopelessly in love again and again spread across his face, clearly liking that she teased.

“Oh, I could think of a few things.”

“That arrogance of yours grows wilding out of check when you’re away from me.” Pecking his cheek once more, she released him and attempted to take a step back; but Eren didn’t let her, arms kept securely around her waist.

“Then I’d best not let you get too far.”

“Smart man.”

“I’d like to think I’ve learned something after all this time.”

“Hmm, what else have you learned?” He tilted his head in faux contemplation, amusement sparkling in his eyes.

“I’ve learned that the more my girlfriend misses me, the longer it takes her to actually say it.”

“That again? If you insist on it, I’m going to need some evidence, sir.”

“Evidence? I know my girlfriend.”

“How very unscientific of you.”

“You want science? As someone well versed in music theory, I can be very scientific. Let’s put it to the test. I’ve observed that my girl has missed me so much that she has trouble saying so which is just as well because she has trouble showing her feelings sometimes, but I don’t mind. I love her anyway. To help her out, I’ll ask the question very clearly. Did you miss me, sweetheart?” Playing along, Mikasa shrugged bashfully.

“Maybe I did. Maybe I didn’t.”

“Research suggest that she sometimes tells the most outrageous lies to provoke me,” he responded hotly, face suddenly so much closer to hers.

“Who? Little ole’ me? I would never.” The statement was accompanied by a smile that stood no chance of staying off her face. He was so gorgeous.

Right. I hypothesize, with my wildly, properly sized confidence, that I am excellent at wringing every drop of truth from her.” The innuendo was not lost on her, nor the way his hands slid to her back, pressing their fronts together again. “Do you want to make my theory fall apart before I start the experiment?” Eren was giving her a chance to admit it as he always did. She’d never taken that chance before and Mikasa doubted she ever would.

“No, thank you. I’m quite interested in the results of this scientific endeavor.”

“I did say I’d show you how scientific I could be.”

“You sure d – mmph!” It was a reflex, the way her body melted when Eren’s lips firmly into hers. Exhaling through her nose, Mikasa breathed him, let all her sense be filled with nothing but him, let herself feel only him. Was it that he kissed her just how she wanted or that all she wanted was him no matter how he gave it to her? No matter if his mouth hugged hers snuggly, moving slowly and tenderly before his tongue was welcomed in to savor her taste, to brush against hers once, twice, thrice before allowing her a breath. A single breath.

Deeper he fell into her, his hands tangling in her hair, cool fingertips brushing her neck and causing a shiver, but he had her. Eren had her. Each movement was one more reassurance than the last. After hyping herself continually over the last day or so, she felt so much more confident in all those affirmations, that everything would be alright. Each swipe of his tongue, nip of her lower lip, breath they shared all the way until the last peck before they parted cemented their success into place.

“My Eren meter had gotten dangerously low level.”

“Is that your way of saying –

“Yes,” Mikasa laughed then sighed face rubbing against the cool fabric of his down coat when her face pressed into his chest. “I missed you. I missed you so much.”

“Good. To be honest, I was a bit worried.” Her brows furrowed, head tilting back once more.

“That I wouldn’t miss you? Don’t be silly.” He rolled his eyes.

“I meant your family.”

“My family,” she frowned. “They’re not going to hurt me or something.”

“Of course, they wouldn’t but there has been no shortage of stress with everything, and I know I said it in jest but you do bottle things up until they overflow, and I don’t want you to…overflow.” The earnestness in his expression softened her immediately. What was going on in her head? There’s no way Eren would think that.

“You’re right. You’re so right, I don’t know what I was –

“Hey, hey, it’s fine. I’m not here to stress you out too.” Rubbing her hair carefully, he placed a kiss on her forehead. “And now I’m worried you’ll freeze. Come on, we’ve been out here too long and I have a summons to answer.” The bags he’d dropped near by were quickly in hand, his pointed looked when she attempted to help earning him an eyeroll. Mikasa grabbed onto him instead, leading them towards the still running vehicle.

“How was the flight?”

“Not bad! I gotta say that it probably felt like the longest I’d ever been on.”

“Why?” He’d definitely flown enough to be used to it.

“Well, while Hannah and Franz were good company, watching them definitely made me long for you even more which was already hard enough to deal with when I knew I was on my way to you.”

“Oh. Okay.” The flush coloring Mikasa’s face was either from the cold or from her heart racing. Seriously, when would she get used to it, the cold or her love’s words of affection.

“My sweetheart feeling shy all of a sudden?” The grin was all over his voice.

“Oh hush, you! Worry about getting your things in.” Raising the trunk for him, Eren followed her instructions but not without throwing a wink her way. “You know, you’re in a very good mood.”

“Why wouldn’t I be?” The trunk closed and they both went to walk to the driver’s side. “I made it here after a sixteen-hour flight, the first thing I get to see upon touch down is you, we’re here together after thinking it would be another week and a half before we finally got to spend prolonged time with one another.”

“You really are a flirt, Mr. Yeager!”

“Is it really flirting if I’m just telling the truth,” he asked leaning over her, voice taking on a deeper quality.

“Sometimes I not sure I wonder if I’m overwhelmed with how much I love you or if I just want to take my panties off. How’s that for truth telling?” Apparently quite good if his raucous laughter was any indication. Mikasa’s mood continued to lift higher and higher.

“I think both is good,” he wheezed.

“I’m glad you’re in good spirits, Eren.”

“Again, why wouldn’t I be?”

“Because you’re meeting my family for the first time; my family who are largely quite against you at this moment. I feel like that’s reason enough to be nervous. If it were me, I think I’d be a wreck.”

“Do you remember that you were a wreck while thinking that could potentially be a situation you’d have to deal.”

“And who’s fault is that?”

“I have fully accepted that I erred, sweetheart. No need to bring that part back up. The important thing is that even though we have reversed positions in the same scenario, what remains unchanged is that no matter what happens, we’re still going to be together. That’s not going to change. I won’t let it. No one is going to take what’s mine from me even if they had her first.”

“Bet,” she grinned. No more questions needed to be asked with the note of finality in his voice. Well, maybe one more question needed to be asked. “Why are you on the side of the car? You’re not driving.”

“I guess I’m just used to it,” he said sheepishly after a moment then paused again. “Actually, now that I think about it, I don’t think you’ve ever driven us before.”

“Scared?”

“Should I be?”

“Guess, we’ll find out.”

“That’s not very encouraging.”

“Shall we share a final kiss while we’re at it?”

“You’re lucky you’re cute.

“Go, get in,” she laughed, pushing him towards the other side.

“What about our final kiss?”

“In, Mr.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Anxiety put to rest, Mikasa was looking forward to spending the ride with Eren before they were inevitably stirred back up at lodge. Perhaps she’d drive slow. Very slowly. The sun was fully set after all and being safe was important. She meant every word of them growing old with one another and had no plans for that to go awry due to poor driving. Not that she was a poor driver.

“You guys sure took your time.”

“SHIT!”

“OH MY GOD!” Barely avoiding knocking the other in the head, Eren and Mikasa whipped around to find MeiLing lying across the backseat.

“Wow, you really forgot I was here, Mimi. I’m hurt,” she said sitting up, her features warring between feigning emotional injury and smirking. “Nice to meet you, Eren Yeager. I am MeiLing, second daughter of the Azumabito, etc., etc., Mikasa’s oldest cousin on the maternal side. I’ll spare you all the names and titles since you’ll be getting plenty of that soon enough.” Eren nodded, a hesitant smile on his features as he reached back to shake her hand.

“Uh, right. Sorry for the language.”

“It’s fine.”

“Did you brief him?”

“We’re only speaking languages that Eren understands. Mandarin is not one of them.”

“It’s cool.”

“It’s not. He’s a guest, Mei.”

“I apologize. I thought he was coming as future family. Uncle doesn’t mind it. I asked if she let you know all the quintessential information.”

“Quintessential information?” Eren asked, glancing at Mikasa.

“Time was short. I planned to do it on the ride over.” Okay, so maybe the slow return drive was meant to be more than just alone time.

“You must be a fast learner. Can I impart some knowledge on you.”

“I don’t think that’s necessary, Mei.”

“Geez what do you think I’m going to tell him?”

“I don’t know!” Really, Mikasa didn’t because at the end of the day, MeiLing couldn’t be on her side, even if it seemed she wanted to be.

“Don’t worry, I’ll save any embarrassing stories for later; but I do think what I have to say is important. Honestly, you just might thank me.”

“Doubtful, but go ahead, I guess.” This was it, Eren’s first true taste of her family and its strictness and its rules and very narrow opinions. He had assured her things wouldn’t change. She knew it wouldn’t scare him away, Mikasa had faith in him, after all. Believing him was easy, but bringing someone she loved and cares for into the clan was…it almost made her feel guilty. Sensing her mood, he clasped her hand comforting before turning back to MeiLing.

“What you got?”

“Mr. Yeager.”

“Uh, yeah?”

“Please listen closely. I’m rooting for the two of you and this could help make or break things,” Mei said seriously.

“Thanks for the support, but I am certain nothing is going to be broken regardless of what you’re about to say so just lay it on me.”

“Alright, then. You’ve got some lipstick smeared…all over your face, actually. Might want to take care of that before you meet the rest of the family.” The air stilled, the quiet purr of then engine and air traffic filling the background.

What?

Flicking on the lights in confusion, there was in fact evidence of affection in each spot she’d kissed him. How did she even see that in the dark when Mikasa didn’t?

“This is why everyone thinks Kimiko is older than you!”  Unable to hold it anymore, MeiLing burst into laughter at their expense. Still, as she searched for something to clean him up with, Mikasa found she couldn’t be mad. Eren’s reddened ears were cute and his introduction to the family could be worse. Maybe she was glad Mei Mei had come after all.

Notes:

Okay! So this wasn't all I wanted to include but it seemed that time was not on my side. That said, I think we covered a decent chunk here. I sincerely hope you enjoyed it. What are your thoughts on the OCs? It's so weird to think of them as OCs since I've had them planned for so long lol, but I hope they didn't feel out of place. Anyway, that's it for now. I will returned to hopefully complete this in 2027, with two chapters to finish it out instead of one, but who knows. Maybe we'll get one mega chapter. Happy New Year to everyone! If you feel so inclined, let me know your thoughts in a comment. Toodles!

Notes:

Happy holidays, everyone! I hope you enjoyed this chapter and seeing Eren and Mikasa in this AU again! There's a lot more fun to come, so please look forward to it. If you know me, then you know that I'm extraordinarily slow despite my best efforts lol, but I can't put out just anything, so be a little patient with me please. In the meantime, please feel free to share your thoughts on with me in a comment. Thank you so much for reading!
