Men were simple creatures. This had been Mikasa's first lesson.
They loved to play pretend, they loved to live in a fantasy — to live in a world where they were the only creatures that mattered. It was her job to make that fantasy come true with soft caresses and honeyed words. For a few coins, she'd make any man, king or beggar, feel like he was the only person who mattered.
