Chapter Text
Rain did not expect anything to happen that day.
Actually, if anyone asked him what the most exciting thing he did that afternoon was, he would probably say buying snacks.
Because that was literally the plan.
He had gone to the pharmacy because he wanted chips, some drinks, and maybe those little chocolate bars he liked. He was halfway through deciding between two flavors when he saw a small display near the counter.
Pregnancy tests.
Buy one, get one free.
Rain stared at them.
Then he looked at the sign.
Then back at the tests.
"...Why are these buy one get one free?"
The cashier looked confused.
"Because there's a promotion?"
Rain nodded slowly.
"That's a very good deal."
The cashier blinked.
"It is."
Rain picked up the box.
Not because he thought he was pregnant.
Not because he had any suspicions.
Just because.
"It would be a waste not to."
The cashier looked at him like he had just said the most logical thing in the world.
Rain paid, put the tests into his bag, and went home completely forgetting about them.
Until he saw them again.
And because Rain was Rain, curiosity won.
He stared at the box sitting on the bathroom counter.
"...I bought you for free."
He picked one up.
"Maybe I should use it."
Five minutes later, Rain was staring at the result.
Two lines.
He frowned.
"Huh."
He tilted his head.
"...That's not supposed to happen."
He checked the instructions.
Then checked again.
Then searched online.
Then looked at the second test.
"...Okay."
He used the second one.
Two lines again.
Rain sat on the bathroom floor.
Not panicking.
Not crying.
Just...
Confused.
"So..."
He looked down.
"...there's a baby?"
A few seconds passed.
Then his expression slowly changed.
"Oh."
A smile appeared.
A huge one.
The first thing Rain did was talk.
Of course he did.
He sat there for almost an hour, talking to the tiny life he couldn't even see yet.
"Hi."
He placed a hand over his stomach.
"I'm your papa."
He smiled softly.
"Your dada doesn't know yet. I think he's going to be shocked because I found out in the most stupid way possible."
Rain laughed quietly.
"I didn't even think I was pregnant. I just bought the test because it was buy one get one free."
He paused.
"Actually, your papa is very smart with money."
Another pause.
"Sometimes."
He leaned back against the bathtub.
"I wonder if you'll look like dada."
His smile grew.
"You're probably going to be handsome if you look like him."
He thought for a moment.
"But if you look like me, that's okay too."
Rain poked his stomach lightly.
"Just don't be too stubborn."
He narrowed his eyes.
"Because Dada is stubborn. Papa is also stubborn. That means you have no chance."
The next morning, Rain went to the doctor.
He didn't tell Phayu yet.
Not because he was scared.
Actually, he was weirdly calm.
He just wanted to make sure first.
And when the doctor confirmed it...
Rain stared at the ultrasound picture.
A tiny little shape.
A tiny little beginning of their family.
He held the picture carefully.
"That's my baby?"
The doctor smiled.
"Yes."
Rain looked at it for a long time.
Then he smiled.
"Okay."
By dinner that evening, Rain had already decided how he was going to tell Phayu.
Except...
He didn't.
Because Rain had never been good at dramatic moments.
The Theerapanyakun family was gathered together.
Vegas and Pete were there.
Tankhun was loudly complaining about something.
Porsche was arguing with him.
Kinn was trying to keep everyone calm.
Kim was quietly eating.
Macau was laughing.
Sky and Prapai were also there, sitting beside Rain.
Phayu was next to him, completely unaware.
Rain was eating normally.
Everyone was talking.
Then Rain suddenly remembered.
"Oh."
Everyone looked at him.
Sky immediately knew that tone.
"Oh no."
Rain looked at Phayu.
"P'Phayu."
"Hm?"
"I went to the doctor today."
Phayu immediately stopped.
"Are you okay?"
Rain nodded.
"Yeah."
He continued eating.
"They said I'm pregnant."
The entire table froze.
Not slowly.
Instantly.
The room became completely silent.
Prapai's hand stopped halfway to his drink.
Sky's eyes widened.
Porsche stared.
Tankhun dropped his fork.
Vegas looked at Phayu.
Pete looked between Rain and Phayu.
Phayu just...
Stopped functioning.
"...What?"
Rain looked at him.
"I'm pregnant."
He said it like he was announcing that he bought a new shirt.
Phayu stared.
"Rain."
"Hm?"
"You..."
Rain tilted his head.
"What?"
"You mean..."
"Yes."
"You and me?"
Rain blinked.
"No, P'Phayu. I got pregnant by myself."
Everyone immediately started laughing because apparently even in the most shocking moment of their lives, Rain could still say something ridiculous.
Phayu covered his face.
"Rain..."
"I'm joking."
Rain smiled.
"It's ours."
That was when everything exploded.
Pete immediately stood up.
"Rain, are you feeling okay?"
Vegas was already calling someone.
"Who is his doctor? I need the information."
"P'Vegas, I'm fine."
"No, you're carrying my grandchild."
Tankhun gasped.
"A BABY?"
He immediately rushed over.
"MY BABY GRANDNIECE OR GRANDNEPHEW."
Porsche grabbed him.
"Don't scare Rain."
"I'm not scaring him, I'm celebrating."
Sky was smiling but also clearly emotional.
"Rain, you seriously just dropped that during dinner?"
Rain shrugged.
"I thought it was a good time."
Prapai laughed.
"Of course you did."
But Phayu wasn't laughing.
He was staring at the ultrasound picture.
Rain noticed.
"P'Phayu?"
No answer.
Rain waved his hand.
"Phi?"
Phayu finally looked up.
His eyes were already red.
And then Rain realized.
"You cried."
"I did not."
His voice cracked.
Everyone went silent.
Because Phayu Theerapanyakun did not cry.
Not like this.
But then he looked back at the ultrasound.
And he completely broke.
He covered his face.
A quiet laugh escaped first.
Then a shaky breath.
Then tears.
Real tears.
He cried so hard Rain immediately got worried.
"P'Phayu."
Phayu reached for him carefully.
Like Rain was something precious.
"I..."
His voice broke.
"I can't believe it."
Rain smiled softly.
"P'Phayu, it's okay."
"I love you."
That made him cry even harder.
"I love you so much."
Rain leaned closer.
"I know."
Phayu laughed through his tears.
"I don't think you understand."
"I spent so long thinking about our future."
"I thought about having a family with you."
"And now..."
He looked at the ultrasound again.
"Now we actually have one."
Rain's expression softened.
Everyone watched as Phayu carefully placed a hand over Rain's stomach.
Rain smiled.
Then he looked down.
"Baby."
Everyone went quiet.
Rain spoke gently.
"Your dada is crying."
Phayu immediately protested.
"I am not."
Rain looked at him.
"P'Phayu, your face is wet."
The whole room laughed.
Rain continued talking to the baby.
"Dada is very emotional. He acts scary, but he's actually soft."
Phayu wiped his tears.
"Rain."
"What?"
"You're exposing me to our child already?"
Rain nodded seriously.
"Yes. Your baby needs to know the truth."
By the end of dinner, Rain was no longer allowed to carry anything.
Pete told him to sit.
Vegas told him to rest.
Tankhun wanted to buy every baby item in existence.
Sky and Prapai were already discussing gifts.
Porsche was arguing with Kinn about who would spoil the baby more.
And Phayu?
Phayu stayed beside Rain the entire night.
Holding his hand.
Looking at the ultrasound picture every few minutes.
Still crying occasionally.
Rain looked at him.
"P'Phayu."
"Hm?"
"You know you're going to be a dad, right?"
Phayu smiled.
"I know."
Rain leaned against him.
"You're going to be annoying."
Phayu laughed softly.
"Probably."
"And overprotective."
"Definitely."
Rain smiled.
"Good."
Phayu looked at him.
"Good?"
Rain nodded.
"Because our baby deserves the best dada."
And for once, Phayu had no response.
He just kissed Rain's forehead, held him closer, and cried again while the entire family watched their usually intimidating son become the softest person alive.
