Chapter Text
Dinner had ended almost an hour ago.
Yet not a single person had gone home.
The dining table had been cleared, desserts had somehow appeared again because Pete insisted everyone needed something sweet to celebrate, and the entire family had migrated into the enormous living room.
Tankhun had claimed the biggest couch.
Vegas and Pete occupied another.
Kinn and Porsche were bickering over which baby brands were the best despite neither of them having any actual expertise.
Kim sat in an armchair pretending to read a book, though everyone had noticed he hadn't turned a page in fifteen minutes.
Macau was already browsing baby clothes online.
Prapai and Sky sat together on the rug.
Rain...
Rain was trapped.
Not because anyone was forcing him.
Because Phayu had somehow wrapped himself around Rain like an oversized, clingy koala.
Rain was sitting comfortably on the sofa.
Phayu sat beside him.
One arm securely around Rain's waist.
One hand spread protectively over Rain's stomach.
His face buried against Rain's neck.
Every few minutes he'd press another kiss there.
Or inhale quietly.
Or just...
Stay there.
Rain reached over and scratched behind Phayu's ear absentmindedly.
"P'Phayu."
"Hm?"
"You've been smelling me for twenty minutes."
"I'm aware."
"Anything interesting?"
"You."
Rain laughed.
"I've always smelled like me."
"You smell different."
"I do?"
Phayu nodded against his neck.
"Mhm."
Rain shrugged.
"Okay."
Another few quiet minutes passed.
Then-
Another kiss.
Rain giggled.
"P'Phayu."
"Hm?"
"You know the baby's not in my neck."
"I know."
"Then why are you kissing my neck?"
"Because I love you."
"...Oh."
Rain accepted that explanation immediately.
"Fair enough."
Pete watched the interaction with a smile.
Vegas looked equally amused.
"I've never seen him this clingy."
Porsche nodded.
"It's honestly disturbing."
Tankhun dramatically wiped imaginary tears.
"My scary nephew has become a golden retriever."
"I have not."
"You absolutely have."
Phayu didn't even bother moving away.
Instead...
He hugged Rain tighter.
Rain simply leaned back against him.
Comfortable.
Like this happened every day.
Sky watched them for another minute before suddenly narrowing his eyes.
"...Wait."
Rain looked over.
"Hm?"
Sky frowned.
"How did you even know you were pregnant?"
Rain blinked.
"What do you mean?"
"You went to the doctor."
"Yeah."
"But why?"
Sky crossed his arms.
"There's no way you woke up one morning and thought, 'I should randomly visit a doctor today.'"
The room slowly became quiet.
Everyone looked toward Rain.
Rain looked back.
"Oh. I forgot to tell you."
He smiled.
"So yesterday I went to buy snacks. There was a promotion. The pregnancy tests were buy one free one."
Silence.
Rain continued.
"I thought it'd be a waste not to buy them."
More silence.
"So I bought them. And since they were already there, I thought I should use one."
"..."
"It came back positive. So I used the free one. That was also positive."
"..."
"So I went to the doctor."
Nobody spoke.
Not one person.
Rain looked around.
"...Why is everyone so quiet?"
Sky slowly blinked.
"...You found out...because they were on sale?"
Rain nodded.
"Mhm."
Sky stared at him.
"You bought a pregnancy test...because it was discounted?"
Rain looked genuinely confused.
"Well, it was buy one get one free. As a university student, I think that was a financially responsible decision."
Prapai buried his face in his hands.
"Oh my god."
Macau started laughing first.
Then Porsche.
Then Tankhun.
Tankhun was laughing so hard he had fallen sideways onto Pete.
Pete was laughing too.
Vegas pinched the bridge of his nose.
"My grandchild exists because Rain likes promotions."
Rain nodded proudly.
"I love promotions."
Kim finally closed his book.
"I don't think anyone else in the world has ever discovered they're pregnant because they didn't want to waste a deal."
Rain thought about it.
"...Maybe."
Sky looked absolutely horrified.
"You know what normal people do?"
"What?"
"They buy chips when they're on sale."
"I bought chips too."
"..."
"They were also discounted."
Sky groaned.
"I can't believe you."
Rain smiled brightly.
"I saved money."
Prapai laughed so hard tears formed in his eyes.
"I'm telling everyone this story."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Absolutely yes."
Phayu finally spoke.
"...Baby."
"Hm?"
"You terrified me."
Rain looked at him innocently.
"But I didn't know."
"I know."
"You weren't even trying for a baby."
"I know."
"You literally found out because capitalism."
Rain nodded.
"It worked out."
Phayu buried his face back into Rain's shoulder.
"I don't know whether to laugh or cry."
"You've already cried...A lot."
Everyone laughed.
Rain suddenly gasped.
"Oh."
"What?"
"I haven't told Dad and Papa yet."
The room immediately became interested again.
Pete grinned.
"Call them."
Vegas smirked.
"I want to witness this."
Tankhun clapped excitedly.
"VIDEO CALL!"
Rain nodded.
"Okay."
He picked up his phone.
Pressed video call.
A few rings late -
Tharn appeared.
He was sitting on the living room sofa at home wearing reading glasses.
The moment he saw Rain, his face softened into a smile.
"Hi, Dad."
"Hello, my baby."
Tharn smiled warmly.
"What's up? Why is everyone together? Is today a family gathering?"
Rain nodded.
"Mhm. I have news."
Tharn chuckled.
"You got another top grade?"
"No."
"You adopted another cat?"
"No."
"You dyed your hair again?"
"No."
Rain smiled casually.
"I'm pregnant."
Tharn blinked.
"...What?"
"I'm pregnant."
Silence.
Tharn stared.
His brain visibly stopped working.
"...Pregnant?"
"Mhm."
"..."
Tharn slowly stood up.
Without taking his eyes off Rain-
"TYPE!"
His voice echoed through the house.
"COME HERE!"
A loud voice answered from somewhere.
"WHY ARE YOU YELLING?!"
"JUST COME HERE!"
"I'M BUSY!"
"RAIN'S PREGNANT!"
A loud crash echoed through the phone.
Then rapid footsteps.
Type suddenly appeared on screen looking thoroughly confused.
"What happened?"
Tharn pointed at the phone.
"Repeat it."
Rain waved.
"Hi, Papa."
"Repeat."
"I'm pregnant, Papa."
Type stared.
"...I told you."
Rain blinked.
"Told me what?"
"I TOLD YOU TO STOP FUCKING WITHOUT A CONDOM."
Rain scratched his cheek.
"...Oops."
"I HAVE BOXES OF CONDOMS."
"I know."
"I LITERALLY BUY THEM FOR YOU."
"I know."
"I EVEN BOUGHT DIFFERENT FLAVORS."
The room exploded into laughter.
Phayu immediately covered his face.
"P-Papa..."
Type wasn't finished.
"I even bought the expensive ones!"
Rain nodded.
"They were nice."
"RAIN!"
"What?"
"You couldn't have used one?!"
"I forgot."
"You forgot?!"
Rain nodded honestly.
"We got carried away."
Phayu wanted the ground to swallow him whole.
"P-Papa..."
Type pointed at the screen.
"You."
Phayu froze.
"Yes...Papa?"
"I trusted you."
"..."
"You had one job. Wear. A. Condom."
Porsche fell off the couch laughing.
Vegas was trying so hard not to laugh that his shoulders were shaking.
Pete had already given up and was openly laughing.
Tankhun was wheezing.
Type continued.
"And another thing."
Rain tilted his head.
"Hm?"
"Did you do the lotus position?"
The entire room went silent.
Rain blinked.
"...The what?"
"The lotus position. That's how I got pregnant with you."
Tharn sighed fondly.
"Type."
"What?"
"You don't have to tell them that."
"Why not?"
"Our son is an adult."
"So?"
"They're adults."
"So?"
"They clearly have sex."
"I KNOW THEY HAVE SEX."
Type pointed dramatically at Rain.
"LOOK AT HIM. HE'S PREGNANT."
The room dissolved into laughter again.
Rain looked thoughtful.
"I don't know what the lotus position is."
Type gasped dramatically.
"Good. Don't. It hurts."
Tharn covered his face.
"Oh dear."
Rain nodded seriously.
"Okay."
Type took a deep breath.
"...Congratulations."
Rain smiled.
"Thank you, Papa."
"I'm very happy."
His expression softened.
"...Really. I am."
Rain's smile became gentler.
"I know."
A beat passed.
Then-
"Now."
Type cracked his knuckles.
"Where's Phayu?"
Rain immediately turned the phone.
"P'Phayu."
Phayu looked like he was attending his own execution.
"H-Hello..."
Type smiled.
"I wanna kill you."
"...Understandable."
Vegas leaned into the camera.
"Excuse me."
Type looked over.
"Oh. Hello."
"I'm Vegas."
"I know."
"I'm his father."
"I know."
"I'd like to remind you that your son also participated."
Pete leaned into view.
"It wasn't a solo project."
Type nodded.
"I know. I still wanna kill him."
Rain grinned.
"I told you."
Tharn chuckled softly.
"Type has been threatening every boyfriend you've ever had since you were sixteen."
"I've only had one."
"Exactly."
Type narrowed his eyes at Phayu.
"Take care of my baby."
"I will."
"If he cries-"
"I'll comfort him."
"If he wants snacks-"
"I'll buy them."
"If he wants food at three in the morning-"
"I'll cook."
"If he wants to eat watermelon with mayonnaise-"
"...I'll make it."
Rain brightened.
"I actually do."
Everyone turned toward him.
"...What?"
Rain looked completely serious.
"I wanted watermelon with mayonnaise yesterday."
Phayu immediately looked at him.
"...Why didn't you tell me?"
"I forgot."
Phayu sighed dramatically.
"My baby has cravings."
Vegas clapped him on the shoulder.
"Welcome to fatherhood."
Type pointed triumphantly.
"SEE? I KNEW IT."
Then he looked back at Rain.
"And listen carefully."
"Hm?"
"If anyone tells you pregnancy means you can't be spoiled anymore..."
He smiled.
"...They're lying. You are now legally allowed to be the most annoying person in the room."
Rain grinned.
"I already was."
"You learned from me."
Tharn smiled warmly from beside him.
"...Unfortunately, that's true."
The entire living room erupted into laughter once more, while Phayu tucked Rain impossibly closer against his side, one hand never leaving the small swell that wasn't even visible yet, as if he still couldn't quite believe that the tiny life everyone was celebrating had started because his boyfriend couldn't resist a buy-one-get-one-free promotion.
