Summary:

Being forgotten over and over is a shame, yet someone finally saw Shrimpo the way he should be seen. Closer than anyone Shrimpo thought should be seen.

Chapter 1: From the Start

Chapter Text

Shrimpo stared up at the ceiling in his bedroom.
It was pockmarked from every time he burst the punching bag in his room and it flew upward too hard. It had been one of those days, and he had none extra to spare, which sucked, as he needed to cool off today more than ever. It was an extra shitty day, he actually had to act in one of those stupid cartoons this time. It was something about him and Dandy, that overly cheerful creep, having an argument, Astro was there too, not like it mattered since he didn’t add much to the plot. Shrimpo thought today’s episode was boring, not like he minded, after all, he hated everything, so it wouldn’t have mattered if the episode was good or not, he would complain anyways.
And yet..
Wait, wasn’t the showing supposed to be soon? It was more than likely he was just forgotten, just like every time. It didn’t matter if he was a main focus this time, he was always left out.
Poor old forgotten Shrimpo. He felt the rage coming into him, and since he had no bag to let it into, he let it out into the closet thing, the wall.
CRACK!
“..huh?” Shrimpo wondered aloud, he guessed he must’ve hit one of the beams, hopefully it didn’t support anything.. And just like that, Shrimpo sat in silence for a minute, maybe two, unless the clock was broken, the showing was just ready to begin, they did for-
“Heya, friend!” A voice called from the doorway.
Ugh, it was HIM.
“DANDY! WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT YOU COMING IN MY ROOM!? I HATE WHEN PEOPLE COME IN MY ROOM!” Shrimpo shouted. It felt nice to talk, though he would never admit that, among many other things about the annoying flower.
“Oh! ..uh, it’s just, the showing is about to start? Y’know, of the episode you were in?” Dandy spoke as if he was speaking a question, Shrimpo knew he wasn’t.
“TH- the showing? Y-someone remembered to come get me?” Shrimpo’s voice was softer than he liked, he preferred it loud and rough-sounding.. It’s how the handlers preferred it to be, it’s how Arthur and Delilah made it to be.
“Of course! I would never forget a fellow toon, especially you, Shrimpo. Hehe!” Even his laugh was annoying, but now Shrimpo could listen to it all day, someone remembered him, Dandy remembered him. It wasn’t every day that even a kid would remember his name, sometimes he felt as lonely as Shelly did. Yet here was proof of the opposite of that, the Star of the Show, Dandy, knew him by name. Shrimpo felt lightheaded, so he turned around, yet as soon as he did, Shrimpo started to feel cold, like something was near him (by Delilah he hated that ‘ability’), but when he turned around, Dandy was there, almost too close.
“Ya coming along, Shrimpy?” Dandy held out his hand, and Shrimpo accepted it, finally feeling seen beyond his raging exterior. Dandy’s grip was firm as he led the two to the elevator, and for once the day didn’t seem so bad. Shrimpo could smile, truly smile.
If only he knew how long it would last.
