Chapter Text
“I would have dimmed my own star just to let yours blaze across the sky,
a quiet constellation fading so your brilliance could be seen.”

Sylvie pounded on the door in desperation, matching her heartbeat that was acting wild on its own accord.
“I know what kind of God I need to be. For you. For all of us.”
Time slowed down till it felt like she was drowning in syrup.
This can't be happening.
She felt her mouth scream his name, but the sound never reached her ears. All she could hear was the opening of those condemning doors.
“I need to get out there.”
She didn't feel those words on her lips. She was already past that moment. All that mattered is trying to get him out of there… before it's too late. She felt her feet carry her up the stairs, her mind racing faster than her legs.
Come on… come on… How do we get out of this?
For once, all solutions were slipping away, leaving a void of emptiness ready to swallow her whole. She peered out the window, the temporal aura fogging up the view of Loki. She desperately looked for his form, and found it quickly, his cape billowing and large majestic horns growing out in the Loki fashion. She then heard a faint scream muffled over the noise of the temporal aura against the glass. Her heart raced as it began to turn into splinters.
No no no no no. This is not how it's supposed to happen.
Then, the temporal loom exploded.
White blinded her and her comrades. She frantically tried to readjust her eyes. Her gaze attempted to remain on Loki, desperate not to lose his form, but he was lost to the timelines. She could hear Mobius stiffen and could tell he stopped breathing.
It was no use. He was gone. He was gone, because he needed to save the multiverse. He was gone, because she had killed the one person holding it together. She thought that freeing everyone would bring the peace of pure freedom. But she was wrong. She was so very wrong. She pushed it down again into the ever-growing pit of her stomach, the countless doubts threatening to flood her once again since that fateful day.
Before all this, she hadn’t known why he was acting so strange. I mean he always was just a little on the quirky side. But now, she knew, and a tiny piece of her wished she didn't know all over again.
Suddenly from the darkness, a single green light radiated, like a pulse. More and more began to pulse through the veins of the multiverse, until the tangled jungle of timelines began to glow, life once again flowing through them. She tracked the source of the glowing and finally found Loki. Her eyes watered slightly against her will.
Loki slowly turned and looked back as his eyes searched the windows of the TVA in hopes he was making eye contact with someone, a burden of emotions reflecting heavily in his gaze. She stifled back her own emotions, stuffing it down as far as she could. She understands what he is trying to tell them.
He is giving them a chance.
She tried to give her best look back to him, trying to reassure him.
He straightened up slightly, looking like he gained just a little more strength; however, his mask of confidence was beginning to peel off from the sadness reflected in the deep pools of his eyes, leaking into his smile that began to droop at the corners. Her thoughts suddenly flew to an unseen memory that she has no recollection of. One where Loki shared his deepest fear to her. “I don't want to be alone.” She felt another fissure inside… one to match the one that was ready to swallow Loki up forever.
Sylvie continued to watch as he turns back around and struggles on, carrying a Glorious Purpose none of them could.
He continued his lonely walk to his empty fate. She stared out, powerless, until he disappeared into the abyss.
He's playing God.
