A Resilient Heart Will Shine Brighter Than The Sun

Chapter 8: A Change In The Canon Plot Line

Summary:

Time to see what Ash Ketchum has been up to and how this world differs from the canon plot line. Some changes are clearly due to Holly’s interference, but others, well… those were just meant to be.

Chapter Text

Now that Ash Ketchum has arrived at the Striaton city gym, he has challenged the gym leaders Cress and Chili for his first Unova region gym badge. Deciding to face all of the gym leaders available to him, Ash must now defeat both of the brothers in a one on one battle.

“Alright Ash! You’ll have to face me first!” Chili grinned excitedly, his Pansear standing beside him looking fired up.

“Bring it on Chili!” Ash announced as he headed to his side of the battle field. “Pika chu!” The electric mouse called out from his perch on his trainer’s shoulder.

“Let’s do this Pansear!” “Pan sear!” The fire type monkey took his position on the field. “Okay, Oshawott. I choose you!” Ash tossed his water type’s pokeball out onto the field, making the male little sea otter appear with a flash of blue light.

Cress took his position on the referee stand and announced to the spectators and battlers, “The gym battle between Ash Ketchum and our gym leader Chili will now commence. Ash must earn two victories in order to receive his gym badge. This battle will be over when either Pansear or Oshawott are unable to continue. Are both sides ready?”

Chili firmly nodded his head in a quick motion, while Ash smiled widely and gave a thumbs up towards Cress. “Alright then. Battle begin!” Cress called, bringing his hand down from its previous position in the air above his head.

“Let’s do this quick Oshawott, use water gun!” “Osha!” A jet of water erupted from Oshawott’s mouth and shot towards the fire monkey at a fast pace. The red headed gym leader smirked, “Dodge it Pansear!”

Pansear rolled out of the way with plenty of time to spare, showcasing his speed to Ash and his Pokémon. “It’s gonna take a much stronger attack than that to dowse our flame! Pansear use Flame charge!”

“Oshawott watch out!” “Pika Pika!” Pansear slammed into the little water type with incredible speed and Oshawott was easily sent flying across the battle field, having failed to move out of the way in time. The water type struggled back onto his feet as Ash grit his teeth. “Oshawott use Razor Shell!” He ordered.

Oshawott charged towards Pansear with his scalchop illuminated, “Dodge it Pansear and use fire punch!” Pansear ducked below the water blade and struck Oshawott right in the face sending the sea otter backwards once again.

“Oh no. Pansear was fast before he used flame charge, but now his speed has practically doubled.” Iris commented worriedly from the overhead viewing balcony. “Axew ew.” Her dragon type muttered from within her hair as he watched their new friends struggle.

“Use water gun!” Oshawott responded quickly, but Pansear was simply faster, jumping from rock to rock, avoiding the water jet consistently. “You’ve got to aim better Oshawott!” “Osha!” The water type nodded his head and focused harder on his moving target, this time successfully landing his water gun attack on the fire type.

“Pan sear.” Pansear grunted as he got back to his feet and shook off the excess water on his fur. The fire type now looked pretty pissed off. “You’ll pay for that, Pansear us dig!” “Pan!” Punching his fist into the ground, Pansear disappeared from sight, having dug below the battle field.

“You don’t know where Pansear is going to come up. So pay attention Oshawott!” “Osha Oshawott!” Oshawott’s head moved from side to side as he tried to spot any sign of Pansear. But his efforts were in vain as Pansear punched out of the ground directly below the otter and smacked him up into the air. “Osha?!” The water type cried out in pain as he flew upwards.

Grinning, Chili shouted, “Alright Pansear, finish this with Flamethrower!” “Oshawott counter that with water gun!” Ash quickly yelled out.

A powerful barrage of flames erupted from Pansear’s mouth and headed straight towards the water type. Oshawott managed to reorient himself in the air and send out his own water gun towards Pansear. The special attacks collided and steam quickly appeared, inhibiting everyone’s vision.

When it cleared, both Oshawott  and Pansear were still standing on the battle field. Their attacks having cancelled out the other’s. “Good job Oshawott! Now use Razor Shell!” “Counter with Fire Punch!”

Both Pokemon rushed towards each other, unlike their last encounter with these moves, Pansear was the one to strike first and Oshawott was just about able to avoid his strike, which gave the water type the opening he needed to land a critical hit with a super effective move on Pansear’s vulnerable chest area.

In an instant, Pansear was sent flying backwards into a nearby rock. “Pansear!” Chili immediately called out with concern evident in his voice.

Upon gazing at Pansear’s unconscious form, Cress made the call as referee. “Pansear is unable to battle. Which means that the winner is Oshawott, giving Ash his first victory in the Striaton gym.”

“Yes! You did it Oshawott!” “Pi Pikachu!” The electric type cheered happily for his friend. Oshawott sighed with relief as he sat down in the middle of the field, clearly not intending to move from his spot. Ash retrieved Oshawott’s pokeball from his belt and recalled his Pokémon. “You did great Oshawott. Now take a nice long rest.” Turning back to the red headed gym leader who was recalling his Pansear into his pokeball. “So how was that chili? What do you think about my water type now?” The fourteen year old grinned proudly.

Chili chuckled as he went to swap places with his brother. “I’ll admit it, your Oshawott is actually quite strong. But good luck defeating my older brother!” Cress rolled his eyes in a fond manner as he and Panpour took Chili and Pansear’s previous positions. “In order to win our gym badge you will have to defeat me as well. And I’ll warn you now, Panpour and I are quite a formidable duo.”

“That’s fine by me!” “Pika!” Pikachu moved to stand in front of Ash in preparation to battle, but his trainer’s voice stopped him. “Wait Pikachu. I’m going to use Pidove.” “Pika?” The electric mouse turned around in confusion. “I know buddy. You’re really strong and there’s no doubt in my mind that you’d win this battle if I put you in. Just like you did against Trip and the Dewott trainer. But that’s just it. I want to give Pidove a chance to battle, okay?” Pikachu nodded his head in understanding. Grabbing his flying type’s pokeball, Ash threw it onto the field. “Pidove! I choose you!” “Pidove!” She cried out as she appeared in a flash of light.

“You’d choose a flying type over your electric type? What an odd choice.” Cress comments from his side. “There’s more to battling than type advantage.” Ash exclaims confidently.

“Alright, this battle will be over when either Panpour or Pidove are unable to continue. If Ash wins this battle he will have two victories in the Striaton gym under his belt and will earn his gym badge. Are both of you ready?!” Chili shouted, clearly pumped up. Cress gave a single nod towards his brother while Ash made eye contact with Pidove before responding, “We’re ready to win this!” “Pi dove!”

“Okay, battle begin!”

“Pidove use Quick attack!” Pidove immediately dived towards the water monkey from her spot in the air. “Panpour use water gun.” Cress commanded his partner calmly. As soon as Pidove got close Panpour sprayed a powerful jet of water straight onto the flying type, throwing her away from him.

“Pidove use Air cutter!” Flapping her wings a bit to shake off the water, Pidove sent out the attack towards Panpour. “Dodge it.” Air cutter smashed the rock Panpour had been standing on into pieces, as Panpour had done a back flip and avoided the attack.

“Use gust!” Ash shouted, desperately trying to think of some sort of strategy that would get him the win. “Dove dove dove dove dove dove!” Pidove smacked her wings against the air and sent out powerful gusts of wind towards Panpour. In response, the monkey dug his feet into the ground and hunkered down, withstanding the attack and simply waited for it to end.

Running out of energy to keep it going, Pidove soon stopped attacking and was simply hovering a little ways away from Panpour, obviously tired. “Now Panpour, use water pulse!” A balloon of water emanated from Panpour’s paws and was thrown towards Pidove.

“Dodge it with Quick attack!” Ash shouted. Heeding her trainers call, Pidove flew above the water pulse and avoided it. “Use Air cutter!” A blue x came out of Pidove’s wings and was shot towards Panpour. This time the move made direct contact due to Pidove’s speed and the fact that Panpour was still recovering from using his strongest move.

“Pan!” “Panpour, are you okay?” Cress immediately asked his partner. Panpour got up from the floor and nodded back towards the blue haired gym leader. “Pidove time for quick attack!” Ash ordered from his side of the field. “Pidove!” The pigeon Pokemon dived once again and flew straight at Panpour. Pidove moved too quickly for Panpour to have enough time to use water gun, so Cress called for something else. “Mud Sport!”

The water monkey sunk his paws into the rocky battlefield and immediately made the area he was in very muddy. Just before Pidove made contact with him, Panpour threw out a pile of mud straight at Pidove’s face, completely caking it and splashing on her feathers. Pidove’s quick attack still made contact but when she flew up and away from the field, it became obvious to everyone what the result of Cress’ attack was.

“Ahhh, Pidove is blinded!” Iris cried out in worry. “Ew ew Axew.” The bird Pokémon was flying high above the field, desperately using her feet to try and wipe the mud out of her eyes. “Pidove!” Ash called out to his Pokemon in concern. Pidove turned towards the voice of her trainer, but she couldn’t judge how far away he was so she proceeded to flap her wings stationary in the air.

Meanwhile, Panpour had gotten up off the floor and was watching the distressed bird with a glint in his eyes. “This battle is over. Panpour use water pulse!” Cress shouted.

Ash flickered his gaze worriedly back and forth between his Pidove and Cress’ Panpour. Panpour was charging up the attack and there was little he could do to help his Pokemon. Water swirled around between Panpour’s paws and soon compacted into a ball. Now that it was steady Panpour grinned and threw it towards his bird opponent.

The boy’s eyes widened as an idea came to mind. “Pidove turn around and dive towards where Panpour last was! Then spin!” He shouted, directing Pidove straight into the water pulse, much to Pikachu’s and Iris’ surprise. Pidove complied and flew right into the water type attack while doing a barrel roll. “Keep going!” Ash screamed. Pidove flapped her wings hard and burst straight through the attack, coming out on the other side with her eyes wide open as the compacted water had wiped the mud right off of her face. “Yes! Now use quick attack!” Ash roared loudly.

The pigeon Pokemon flew at blinding speeds, but her attack looked different than before. While it was indeed quick, it seemed to have more power behind it than her Quick Attack did. The realisation came to Iris first and she immediately shouted out to Ash. “That’s not quick attack! Pidove learnt Aerial Ace!”

Ash glanced up towards Iris before focusing back on his pigeon Pokemon. Noticing the difference, a massive grin stretched across his face. “Do it Pidove! Use Aerial Ace!” “Pidove!” Pidove dived down towards Panpour with her new move, the speed behind it didn’t allow Panpour or Cress a chance to respond.

Pidove crashed into Panpour’s chest and carried him backwards until she slammed the monkey Pokemon directly into the wall. Pushing off of her opponent, Pidove took to the air once again, but Panpour remained motionless leaning up against the wall. Taking a closer look, the swirls in his eyes became obvious.

“Panpour is unable to battle! Pidove wins, which means that the victor is the challenger Ash!” Chili called out from the referee stand. “We won. Yes! We won!” “Pi Pikachu!” Ash and Pikachu cheered as Pidove flew around her trainer and the electric mouse in celebration. “You were awesome Pidove!” He called out to his bird Pokemon.

“You battled well.” Cress stated calmly as he recalled his unconscious partner back into his pokeball.

“Huh. He actually won. That’s kind of impressive.” Iris muttered to herself. “Axew.” The dragon type agreed with her in a quiet voice. “His Pidove learnt a powerful new move so soon after he caught them. Ash is a pretty good trainer.” The admission came out as a whisper just under her breath. Axew was the only one who was able to pick up on her words. “Axew?” Iris turned to her partner and smiled gently at him. “Don’t worry about it Axew.”

Five minutes later, Ash was standing before both Cress and Chili with Pidove and Oshawott by his feet. “This is the trio badge. Proof of your victory in our gym.” Cress presented the badge to the boy.

“Alright. I just got, the trio badge!” “Pi Pikachu!” “Pi dove dove!” “Osha Oshawott!” His Pokemon all cheered alongside him.

“By the way, Ash. I assume that you’re going to head towards Nacrene city as it’s the closest gym from here, am I right?” Chili asked while grinning. “Nacrene city? Sure!” Iris let out a sigh from the balcony, having realised that Ash had absolutely no idea where his next gym battle even was.

“Well, the reason I ask, is because our third brother has recently gone out on a journey.” The red head exclaimed. “Third brother?” Ash asked, sounding confused. Cress then stepped in, “The Striaton gym is actually run by three people. Our third brother Cilan, left on a journey a few days ago with another trainer aiming to collect 8 gym badges and enter the Unova league.” “Yep. And they’re heading to Nacrene city. If you want another challenging battle, you should face Cilan and his Pansage!”

“Or you could battle his new travelling companion. She won a gym badge here too. Her battles were… unusual, to say the least.” Chili glanced at his older brother for his comments, then turned back to Ash with fire in his eyes. “Yeah, she was pretty tough. Her Oshawott managed to defeat Cilan’s Pansage, and my Pansear lost to her Tepig!”

“She has an Oshawott and a Tepig?” Ash grinned widely at them, “Battling them sounds like fun! You said they left a few days ago?” Cress and Chili nodded their heads. “Thanks! I’ll definitely challenge Cilan to a battle when I meet him! And take on his companion too!” Ash called out to them as he ran out of the gym with his Pokemon close by his side, too excited to sit still.

“Ash wait up!” Iris called out to him as she ran to catch up. “Come on Iris!” Ash shouted back to her as he headed towards the Pokemon centre. Sighing softly, Iris smiled as she picked up the pace. ‘He’s such a little kid.’

After Nurse Joy took Ash’s Oshawott and Pidove to get checked out, the two trainers sat down in one of the centre’s booths to have a conversation. They’re Pikachu and Axew playing together on the floor around them.

“So Iris, what did you think about our gym battle? Pretty cool right?” An amused look came across Iris’ face. “I’ll admit, it was a decent battle. I thought for sure that you and Pidove were cooked when Panpour’s mud sport blinded Pidove.”

“Well, my strategy worked perfectly. So we won!” “I don’t know if that was a strategy. I think you just got lucky.” A teasing edge came into her voice as she smirked at the 14 year old in front of her. Which grew into a full on grin when Ash reacted so massively. “What was that?!” Beginning to giggle, Iris quickly covered her mouth as Ash began to pout and cross his arms.

“Hmph. Whatever. So… what are you gonna do now Iris? I mean, you said that you’re travelling. Are going anywhere in particular?” Ash inquired, curious about his new friend’s goals. Iris’s giggling finally came to a stop and she looked at Ash quite intensely. “I’m training to become a Dragon Master.”

“Wow! A Dragon Master! That’s so cool!” He shouted out, being his usual encouraging and supporting self. Iris smiled brightly at him then had to hold back a sigh when Ash spoke again after a minute.  “…So what’s a Dragon Master?” “Pika pi.” Pikachu scampered up onto the table between the trainers looking a little exasperated before taking a seat on his partner’s lap.

Iris picked Axew up off of the floor and brought him into her own, not too surprised at Ash’s lack of knowledge about what a Dragon Master is. “Dragon Masters are really powerful trainers who specialise in Dragon type Pokémon. I’m on a journey to raise Axew into a Haxorus and catch more dragon types for my team!”

“So you want to become stronger with Axew?” Iris made a noise of affirmation and nodded her head while smiling. “That’s just like me and Pikachu. Though, I don’t specialise in one type.” “I noticed.” Ash grinned as Iris gave him a teasing smile.

“Excuse me Ash, your Pokemon have all made a full recovery.” Nurse Joy’s voice came over the PA (Public Address system).

“Coming!” Pikachu jumped onto Ash’s shoulder as Ash and Iris both got up from the booth and made their way to the Pokemon centre’s main lobby.

Nurse Joy’s Audino brought out Pidove and Oshawott on a stretcher, as Ash recalled his two Pokémon back into their pokeballs he turned to Iris and asked, “Do you know who that Pokémon is?” Iris nodded, looking slightly smug. “That’s an Audino. They’re the main Pokemon who assist Nurse Joy in the Unova Region. And they’ve got excellent hearing.” She answered him.

“Wow, that’s awesome.” Quickly retrieving his pokedex from his pocket, Ash held it in front of Nurse Joy’s assistant.

Audino. The Hearing Pokemon. Audino can assess a Pokémon’s overall physical condition and mood using its ears. The feelers on its ears also informs it when an egg might hatch.

Just as his pokedex finished its explanation, a frantic boy came rushing into the Pokemon centre with a glowing bright pink Patrat clutched to his chest. “Nurse Joy! Please help my partner!”

“What’s the matter? Oh my, you’re Patrat.” Nurse Joy exclaimed worriedly, and immediately came around the lobby’s desk to assess the normal type’s condition. “Patrat started to glow as soon as this pink light hit him from the sky. And now he won’t wake up!”

“Woah, pink light?” Ash gazed at the boy with a concerned expression on his face. The boy nodded to him, “Yeah. And whatever it is, there’s a a lot more outside. Please Nurse Joy, you’ve just gotta help Patrat!” Nurse joy nodded, “I’ll do what I can.” She said as she took Patrat from his arms and checked the normal type’s vitals.

Iris stepped forwards and placed a hand on the trembling boys shoulder. “What’s your name?” The worried boy glanced away from his partner briefly to meet Iris’ eyes. “It’s Daniel.” “Okay Daniel. I’m Iris. And don’t worry, your Patrat is going to be okay. Nurse Joy is the best of the best after all!” Daniel calmed down a little at Iris’ words and slowly nodded his head. “Yeah. And I’m sure Patrat wouldn’t want you freaking out too much.” Ash chimed in as he approached the two. “Yeah… okay.” Daniel conceded, as he tried to slow down and take a deep breath before looking back at his sleeping partner.

At that moment, a woman with long black hair and glasses ran into the Pokemon centre with a bright pink Pokemon floating by her head. “Oh! Just as I feared. Munna, please wake up Patrat. Quickly!” She exclaimed as she and her Pokemon stopped by the group’s side. The obvious psychic type floated towards the Patrat in Nurse Joy’s arms and opened her mouth wide. Pink mist began flowing off of Patrat’s body and entered Munna’s mouth.

“Who’s that Pokemon?” Ash queried to himself as he held out his pokedex towards it.

Munna. The Dream Eater Pokémon. Munna can eat the dreams of people and Pokemon alike and then project those dreams by emitting dream mist from its body.

As Munna swallowed up the pink light, the purple flowers on her body began to glow brightly and soon a pink coloured smoke was produced from the circle on her nose. As the smoke rose into the air and formed a cloud an image began to appear inside of it.

“Oh wow.” Ash muttered. “What’s that?” Iris asked, as the image began to take shape, revealing Patrat standing upright in a wide open field. The black haired woman answered Iris’ question, “That’s the dream Patrat was having.”

Patrat then woke up in Nurse Joy’s arms and looked around in confusion. “Ah Patrat you’re okay!” Daniel exclaimed, utter relief coating his voice as he immediately retrieved Patrat from Nurse Joy and hugged him tightly against his chest.

The dream then began to change and everyone focused back on it, the dream Patrat started glowing bright blue and evolved. “It evolved.” Ash commented in surprise. “Pika.” “That’s watchog, Patrat’s evolution.” Daniel replied as he gazed up at the pink smoke. Patrat turned around from his trainer’s chest and looked up at the image before him within the smoke and grinned widely.

As they all watched, the background of the dream changed into what looked like a battle field. Soon watchog was facing off against a familiar looking Oshawott who was being commanded by a blue haired girl in the background.

“…Holly’s Oshawott.” Daniel muttered under his breath, too quiet for anyone else to hear other than his Patrat. “It’s an Oshawott.” Ash spoke up. “You’re right. They look to be having a battle.” Iris exclaimed.

The scene then changed, revealing Watchog standing tall above a fainted Oshawott and Daniel celebrating next to him. With that, the pink smoke soon puffed out and dispersed, ending the dream.

“Watchog won the battle.” Ash mumbled quietly in awe, not fully understanding what he had seen. Daniel however, immediately looked down at his partner. “You were having a dream about getting stronger and getting revenge for our first ever loss.” “Pa trat.” Daniel smiled widely as he hugged his partner tighter, “Don’t worry buddy. We’re definitely going to do that.” Patrat grinned up at his trainer and nodded his head excitedly.

“Hi everybody, I’m Dr Fennel, a scientist specialising in researching dreams and other mysterious powers which so many Pokémon possess.” The black haired lady with glasses introduced herself to the group.

Ash, Iris and Dr Fennel soon stepped outside the Pokemon centre and came face to face with a large array of bright pink lights and fog in the sky. It was quite a pretty sight, but also very concerning. Iris spoke up looking worried, “Those pink lights must be what made Patrat fall asleep.” Hearing that, her Axew quickly ducked into Iris’ hair so that he wouldn’t be forced to fall asleep.

“All of this must’ve been created by Musharna’s dream mist.” Dr Fennel stated, her voice dripping with concern but also contained a hint of surprise. “Musharna?” Ash asked, looking over to her. “Musharna is Munna’s evolution.” The doctor answered him. Ash then pulled out his pokedex and looked the Pokemon up.

Musharna. The Drowsing Pokemon, and the evolved form of Munna. The mist from its forehead takes the form of things present in the dreams it has eaten.

“Musharna eats dreams just as Munna does and can then project those dreams onto its dream mist.” Dr Fennel explained carefully as she gazed up at the pink covered sky.

Tyres screeched as a police car came to a sudden stop in front of the trio. Officer Jenny hopped out and approached Ash in a hurried manner. “Attention. You must return your Pokémon to their pokeballs immediately.” “Huh?” “Pika?”

“Pokemon are falling asleep all over the city after being exposed to a mysterious pink light. You must hurry.” Officer Jenny advised quickly. Ash frowned, “Thing is, my Pikachu doesn’t like being in its pokeball one bit.” Iris turned to him in surprise, though she refrained from commenting.

“If I may?” Dr Fennel then reached forwards and removed Ash’s hat and placed it on top of Pikachu’s head instead. The hat offered Pikachu protection from the lights, as evidence by a couple of pink drops breaking apart as they made contact with the material. “There. That should work for now.” She smiled.

Iris then looked at Munna in concern. Dr Fennel noticed and smiled at her. “Don’t worry about Munna. She’ll be fine. Munna and the lights are attracted to each other.” Dr Fennel paused as she crossed her arms. “I think the key to solving this mystery will be found in the Dreamyard.”

“What’s the Dreamyard?” Ash asked, looking intrigued. His question was brushed off as an announcement rang out overhead from the Pokemon centre. Nurse Joy’s voice came over the intercom.

“CITIZENS OF STRIATON CITY, A STATE OF EMERGENCY HAS BEEN DECLARED. KEEP YOUR POKEMON INDOORS AT ALL TIMES. I REPEAT, KEEP YOUR POKEMON INDOORS AT ALL TIMES.”

After Dr Fennel spoke with Officer Jenny, the police officer was soon giving the doctor, Ash and Iris a lift to the Dreamyard. On the way there Dr Fennel explained to the group what had happened to Musharna and all of her research. Along with her hope that Musharna had returned to the area and that she’ll be able to find her.

Pulling up to the remnants of the Research facility the group immediately noticed the bright pink glow of the ground and three people with a machine at the centre of it all.

“All right, what are you three doing here?” Officer Jenny called out in a stern tone. The purple haired man answered without an hesitation. “We’re searching for any residual traces of dreams.” After observing the machine carefully, Dr Fennel made an analysis, “I think that machine is elevating the energy levels left here.”

“Very good.” The dark pink haired lady praised in a slightly condescending tone. “Who exactly are you? Identify yourselves.” Officer Jenny ordered the group, not having the time or patience for any games.

The lady’s sunglasses fell down slightly as she stared at the police officer. “Exacting questions are good indeed.” “The answers to come as we feel the need.” The man continued his companions statement while they all removed their disguises.

As soon as they revealed their faces, Iris began glaring at them. “These guys again.”

“Bringing the white light of evil into the future.” “And thrusting the hammer of justice on the black universe.” “Carving our names in the rock of eternity.” Meowth spoke up, revealing his talking nature to the doctor and police officer.

“The fiery destroyer, I’m Jessie.” “And with thunderous emotion, I am James.” “Wisest of the wise, I’m Meowth.”

“AND NOW WE CALL ALL TOGETHER UNDER THE NAME OF TEAM ROCKET.” They shouted in unison as they took their positions beside each other.

“Team rocket? What’s a Kanto Region based organisation doing in Unova?” Officer Jenny grit her teeth as Jessie answered her question swiftly. “Setting in motion our takeover of Unova, of course.” “The sleeping energy lingering here at the Dreamyard will be fully awakened at the hands of Team Rocket.” James continued with a serious expression on his face. Meowth grinned wickedly as he pointed towards the group. “And we won’t let sleepwalkers stand in our way!”

“I can’t believe there are people who still want to take advantage of our dreams.” All of a sudden a scream sounded out over the area and the pink glow on the ground grew more violent with pink sparks shooting up from it. “I think that’s Musharna’s cry!” Dr Fennel exclaimed.

“Musharna?” Jessie commented quietly. “Musharna is the Pokemon who helped with the experiments at the laboratory.” James answered her. “Hey, then that means we could gather up the remaining energy and we could also catch the Pokemon that’s the source of that energy at the same time.”

Hearing what Meowth had said enraged Ash and Iris. Getting fed up, Ash grabbed a pokeball from his belt and tossed it into the air. “Pidove I choose you!” Pidove emerged in a bright light and flew above the area, glaring at team rocket, having recognised them from the last time she faced off against them and lost.

“Don’t get in our way twerp!” James shouted as Jessie grabbed her own pokeball from her belt. “Woobat let’s go! Use Air slash!” Woobat appeared and sent an air slash towards Pidove.

“Dodge it Pidove, then use Aerial Ace!” “Pidove!” Pidove ducked beneath the flying type attack that woobat sent and flew straight towards woobat, colliding with it head on and sending the bat Pokemon towards the ground.

“Woobat!” Jessie shouted out in surprise. “Oy vey.” Meowth cursed as he saw that the only Pokemon available to them wasn’t going to get back up. Growling Meowth charged forwards, “Time for my fury swipes!” He yelled. “Oshawott come out and use razor shell!” Ash ordered as he tossed his water type’s pokeball into the fray and had him meet Meowth head on. Oshawott overcame Meowth’s attack with ease and sent the cat Pokémon flying backwards into his team mates.

“Pikachu! Use thunderbolt!” Pikachu leaped off of his trainer’s shoulder, still wearing Ash’s hat and sent a powerfully charged thunderbolt straight towards the team rocket trio. James grabbed Meowth while Jessie collected Woobat and the two immediately used their jet backs to avoid PIkachu’s electric attack.

“What a pain.” Jessie groaned as the began flying away from the Dreamyard, abandoning their machine in their hasty retreat. “We’ll be back.” James reassured her as Team rocket left the groups line of sight.

Ash clenched his fists, seeing that Team Rocket had escaped. But he didn’t remain angry for long, because as soon as Team Rocket vacated the area, Musharna appeared in front of the group and reunited with Dr Fennel and Munna.

Dr Fennel hugged Musharna gently as she apologised to her. “Oh, Musharna, I’m so sorry I didn’t feel your presence for such a long time. From now on, we’ll never be apart.” She promised. “Musharna!” “Munna”

With Musharna’s reappearance, the Dream Mist Pokemon was able to put an end to the bright pink lights plaguing Striaton city, finally allowing all of the city’s occupants to relax once more.

As Ash and Iris left the Pokemon centre, having returned there after the Dreamyard fiasco, Ash turned to her. “So Iris, are you gonna come with me?” “Hmm?” “I mean, travelling together could be a lot of fun! Plus, if you want to get stronger, we could train together too!”

Iris stared at the Kantonian for a moment before smiling. “Sure! Sounds like fun!” “All right!” Ash cheered and pumped his fist into the air, making the girl laugh at his antics.

Now that Ash has won his first Unova gym battle and secured himself a new travelling companion, he sets his sight on Nacrene city. With the added side quest of challenging the third travelling gym leader of the Striaton gym to a battle and meeting his travelling companion too. As the journey continues…

Notes:

Iris is still going to tease Ash as that is part of her personality, but it’s going to be a lot more friendly and no where near as often.
Things are already different to cannon without Holly’s involvement, the main thing being that; Trip was the one to get absolutely demolished in Ash’s first ever battle in the Unova region. Which is going to have an effect on the young trainer.

I mean, Pikachu overcame a Latios in Sinnoh. A Latios! There was no way in hell that Pikachu could have lost to a level 5 Snivy! It doesn’t matter if his electric moves weren’t working, his quick attack should have been a one shot!

Sorry for rambling, I’m just a little passionate about this.

Anyway, hope everyone enjoyed this chapter! We’ll be cutting back to Holly and Cilan in the next one!
