There's a certain criterion you need to meet in order to join Team Natsu. What are the criteria you might ask?
Strong? Powerful? Maybe.
Beautiful? Adorable? Absolutely.
Complex backstories? Well, that's unnecessary.
Childhood trauma? Absolutely not!!!!
The simple answer is…..
You need to be able to handle a certain Dragon-Demon Hybrid and an Ice Demon Slayer.
So, how did Wendy manage to fit in? Does she meet this ONE specific criterion?

Gray and Natsu fight. Like….. a lot!!!!
And that's normal (-ish).
The two can fight, bicker, and throw hands, all because one looks at the other differently.
Before Team Natsu forms, Erza is always the one to break up their fight, due to the fact that Erza is their mother big sister, and because they're scared of her shitless.
Everyone always thought it was the pure brute strength of Erza that they were afraid of. But when a certain Celestial Wizard comes into the picture, their perspective changes a little.

“No! I Won!”
“Lucy!!!”
“Lucy!!!”
“Who do you think won the fight?!??”
“S h u t u p .”
“Hieskkkkkk!!!”
“We're sorry…..”
And with that, Lucy Heartfilia has established herself as an amazing authority figure.
“Maybe because they like her?” Wakaba suggested.
“No. Even Mira sometimes can't do that without beating the shit out of them, let alone using two words only.” Cana denied, rubbing her chin.
“I can't do that!” Levy raised her hand. “And we grew up together, I think they are pretty like me!”
“That's just so manly….” Elfman weakly compliments; he's also afraid of the blond scary gaze.
Don't get them wrong, Lucy IS strong. If she fights with some of them when her spirits don't have a day off, Lucy can establish herself as a mid-tier on the power scale.
But compared to Gray and Natsu? Lucy won't stand a chance. It's just the difference between holder-type magic and caster-type magic. It's not a fair fight.
So, what is so different about Lucy?

“Really??!! Cause I remember you did nothing but spread fire everywhere!!!”
“What did you just say, ice striper??!!”
“You heard me loud and clear, flamebrain!!?!”

*giggle*
“Don't scare us like that, Luce!!!”
“Yeah, what was that about, Lucy!!!!”
“Eh? I'm just saying, you two are getting a n n o y i n g ! ! ! You'd better be done before I tell Erza!!”
“ECCCCCKKKKKK!”
“We're sorry…..”
“Better be, now wrapped up! We're getting late!!”
“So…. Is it because she's smarter than them?” Macao shrugged.
“She uses Erza as a discipline method, that’s smart!” Elfman questioned. “No man dares to face Erza.”
“But, if we do that, they would get revenge on us.” Cana shrugs. “But they never do the same to Lucy.”
“Hmmmmm….”
(The answer is simple, Lucy has the support of Happy and Erza on her side. Even tho she has to admit the blue cat sometimes is the cause of these problems.)
The guild soon gets used to it; they just accept that Lucy and Erza are the only two who can break the idiots apart.
Until Wendy joined the guild.
The Young Dragon Slayer is a sweet, cute, and adorable little sister to everyone. Except Romeo, because she is his older sister.
Until the 7 yrs time skip but we don’t talk about that.
After Wendy joined team Natsu, Lucy and Erza suddenly realized a problem they had at hand.
“ummmm…. Natsu-san…”
“WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME?? YOU POPSICLE??!”
“YOU FUCKING MATCHSTICK HEARD WHAT I SAID!! IT SHOULD BE AT 11:00 ANGLE!!!”
“NO! IT SHOULD BE AT 11:30!!!”
“THEN THAT IS TOO WILD YOU IDIOTS!!!”
“.....Gray-san….”
“SHUT UP STRIPER!!!”
“FLAMEBRAIN!!!”
“ICE CUBE!!!”
“FIRECRACKER!!!”
“uwwwawwww (இ﹏இ`｡)”
That is how Lucy and Erza found the three of them.
Lucy can't help but facepalm so hard she believes there is a handprint on her forehead. Erza rolled up her sleeves, ready to break the fight. (She was wearing gauntlets, whaaaaaa…?)
“Wait, Erza,” Lucy called out for the red knight. Erza looked back, questioning. “Let me, let me ask a few questions first….”
Lucy sighs. She comes up to Wendy, who looks as if she is on the brink of tears, and pulls her aside.
“How long have they been like this?” She asked.
“About 2 hours now…” Wendy replied meekly.
“....since we left….?”
“..y-yes…”
“Wendy…” Lucy sighs again. “It's time for you to learn a few things.”
“Um…”
Erza glanced at Lucy, and the blond nodded. Erza strikes forward at the two idiots who have stopped bickering and resort to a physical fight.
“Wendy, watch closely!” The knight says.
Erza went up between Gray and Natsu, then, using full force, slamming the two idiots' heads together. The two heads collide, making a loud ass ‘clank’, making Lucy whine silently.
(Lucy secretly wonders if the two turn out this way because of all the brain damage Erza gives them.)
“BOTH OF YOU! STOP RIGHT NOW!!!”
As Erza began to berate Gray and Natsu, Lucy turned to Wendy.
“That’s how you stop them from fighting.”
“I-Im not sure if I can do that…?” Wendy said shyly, and Lucy smiled.
“It doesn't have to be the exact same way.” She patted Wendy's head. “You can use your enchanter to mute them, or use your breath attack to blow them away.”
“I-I can?”
“Yup!” Lucy needs to make sure that in case Wendy is alone with the two idiots again, she can have peace of mind. “I believe you can!!”
“And besides,” Lucy teased slightly. “This is an official test in order to join Team Natsu.”
“Really?” Wendy asked, eyes widened.
“Yup!!!”
“Um… Is-Is there a deadline?” Wendy asked nervously, would she get kicked out if she didn't pass the test?
Lucy placed a finger on her chin, she joked.
“Maybe….. 3 months?”
3 months? Wendy starts to calculate how she can pass this test. She wouldn't disappoint Erza-san and Lucy-san's trust in her. Wendy can do this!! Erza-san has already shown her what to do. She can do this!!!
Tightening her fist, Wendy swore she had to pass this test, whatever it takes!!!

Another day, another mission, another bickering between the two idiots.
Lucy looks on at the two bickering on the side of the road, knowing this would turn into a fight soon, and she looks at Wendy.
“It's your chance, Wendy!!” Lucy encourages the girl. Erza gives Wendy a thumbs-up, showing her silent support.
Wendy nodded. She came to a safe distance between Natsu and Gray, taking a deep breath.
Let's do a peaceful method first. Thinking to herself, Wendy's hand began to glow blue, and a magic circle appeared.
‘Communication Ability: Silent!!!”
As the magic circle appears, Natsu and Gray's bodies begin to glow, and suddenly they can't find themself to speak anymore.
Lucy suddenly finds out she has a favorite teammate after all.
The sudden voice loss hasn't stopped the fight, but it has intensified it. The two men didn't even question why Wendy went Ursula on them, simply busting their heads together and beginning to fight physically.
Looking back at Lucy and Erza, Wendy feels a little hopeless, unsure what to do. Lucy gives Wendy an encouraging thumbs-up, while Erza puffed up her cheek, implying a blow directly at her.
Wendy nodded and began gathering air in her lungs.
“Stop fighting!!!!”
“Sky Dragon Slayer Huuuuuufffffftttt!!!”
The stream of air current took the two men by surprise so much that they didn't have a chance to get out of the way. Both Gray and Natsu get blown away by the softer air stream than her usual attack.
Gray was blown into the nearby trees, letting out a ‘oof’ as his back hit the tree bark. Gray looks so confused as she stares directly at the three women in his team. When Gray was about to call off the fight with the human furnace, Natsu landed rightㆍonㆍtopㆍofㆍhim!!! Face to face.
Gray's forehead throbbed as an angry tick mark appeared, and his fist found its way onto Natsu's face, for some reason.
Wendy, Lucy, and Erza facepalm as the two men continue to fight, quietly they might add, as Wendy hasn't released the enchanted spell she cast on them yet.
Lucy patted Wendy's head, nervously chuckling. Erza is already marching over the two idiots.
“There will be next time, Wendy. You did your best today.”
This might be harder than Wendy thought.

After observing Lucy and her way of resolving conflict between Gray and Natsu, Wendy is confident she can do it this time. After all, Erza's method is reserved for her only.
“You can do it! Wendy!” Erza gave Wendy her words of encouragement as Wendy approached the two bickering men. They just came back from a pretty difficult job, with the entire team covered in bruises and cuts, so the two men have decided it’ll be best to squabble instead of brawling.
Usually, Lucy is the one breaking them apart if the bickering is getting too annoying. She preferred using her words instead of strength like Erza after all.
“All this injury can be avoided if you didn't jump headfirst into danger, dumbass!”
“Oh, yeah? Why do you even have all those cuts if you think with your head, huh? Freak?”
“It's because I take out more enemies than you! Pyro!”
Wendy strolled up to them with a confident stride. She puffed up slightly.
“Be-”
“I'M THE ONE WHO TAKES OUT MORE THUGS THAN YOU!”
“-quiet…?” ಥ﹏ಥ
“IMPOSIBBLE! ASH HEAD! I TAKE OUT HALF OF THEM!!”
“THEN I TAKE OUT ALL OF THEM! PERVERT!!!”
“Uhhh (｡•́︿•̀｡) be quiet!!!”
“DO YOU EVEN HEAR YOURSELF? FLAME BRAIN!!!”
“I'M JUST SAYING THE TRUTH!!!”
“Uh. Be!! Quiet!!! .·°՞(¯□¯)՞°·.”
“SO YOU ARE SAYING YOU ARE BETTER THAN ERZA AT FIGHTING THOSE THUGS???!”
“THAT’S NOT WHAT I SAID!!!”
“...be quiet… please…. (˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥)”
“STUPID FURNACE!!”
“PERVERTED FRIDGE!!!”
Erza sighed as Wendy slumped in a defeated walk back, and Lucy stomped up to them.
“BOTH OF YOU!”
Lucy comes in directly between the two men. She cracks her whip on the ground at their feet, making them both look her way, as she delivers her threat.
“SㆍHㆍUㆍTㆍUㆍPㆍ! ! !”
“Eeeeeekkkkkkk!!!!”
The two men huddle together, suddenly aware of the threat blooming near them, both shaking and terrified, staring at the angry blond.
“We are out in public so s h u t u p!!!” Her face got extremely close to the two men, her eyes dead and her voice monotone. For a second, she really resembles Aquarius in a way.
“If we get banned from another place because the two of you can't stop fighting, you'd better sleep with one eye open tonight! Caprice?!”
“....yes ma’am…”
Wendy can't help but awe at Lucy, as the blond huffs in victory, Gray and Natsu nervously strolling behind her.
“You can try again next time, Wendy.” Erza smiled, and Wendy tried to mirror her to no avail.

This is it, Wendy! This is your last chance!!
Wendy stands a short distance away from the two bickering men again. Unlike the last two attempts with Lucy and Erza right by her side, this time she was separated from the two women and found herself in the woods alone with Gray and Natsu.
And as usual, both of them began to bicker, and bickering slowly led to a physical fight. And Wendy, sure, this time she can pass the test!!!
“WHY CAN'T YOU LEARN HOW TO SHUT UP!!!”
“WHY DONT YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH FIRST!!!!”
‘Communication Ability: Silen–’
“I GET ENOUGH OF YOU!!!!”
Wendy's spell got cut off abruptly as Natsu roared at Gray in anger, and the others screamed back.
“AND YOU THINK I CAN STAND YOU??!!”
Wendy nervously tried to cast her spell again, but her brain decided this is the best time to get stuttering.
‘Com- Commu-nication A-Abi—-’
Tears started to well up in Wendy's eyes; this is the last week of the three-month deadline.
“S-Stop fighting– hic-....”
Wendy can't help but sob.
If she fails this test, she can't hang out with the team anymore, she can't go out with them on missions anymore, she won't get invited to any sleepovers, Lucy won't braid her hair before bed, Erza not gonna hug her anymore, Gray won't give her a snowcone on a hot day, and Natsu won't patting her head.
Deep in her thought, Wendy failed to realize the atmosphere around her had become silenttttt—-
Gray and Natsu stare in horror as their little teammates' tears begin to fall, and sob cries break between the girls' lips.
Erza/Lucy is gonna kill us!!!!
They panicked.
“Wen- Wendy-chan, pleAsE dOn’t crY…” Gray's voice can't help but crack as he nervously makes an ice bunny for the crying girl.
“No no no no Wendy, please stop crying…” Natsu kneels on the ground and begs, his fist lit on fire, creating a firebird for Wendy. An attempt to cheer her up.
“You idiots, you made her cry more!”
“No you!!”
As the two looked like they were gonna fight again, Wendy cried harder.
“Nonononoononono, pleaseeeeee Wendy….”
“Wendy-chan, we’re sorry….”
Both men kneel on the forest dirt, hand clapping together as their heads are buried deep in the ground, begging their youngest member to stop crying.
“We are not gonna fight anymore!”
“Yes!”
“We will be friends!”
“Yes!!”
“So please stop crying!!!”
“YES!!!!”
Wendy stopped, peaking her puffy eyes from between her fingers, looking at the two men who looked like they were gonna cry too if she didn't stop.
“Re-Really…?”
“YES!!!”
“ABSOLUTELY!!!!”
“Promised?”
“PROMISED!!!”
“PROMISED!!!”
Wendy stopped, as she quietly cheered.
Natsu and Gray breathe out a sigh of relief as the young Dragon Slayer's tears stop falling.
The rest of the walk ends up very, v e r y peaceful until they regroup with Lucy and Erza again.
And Wendy might just have found out how she's gonna pass her test.

“Ughhhhh, they’re back at it again…” Cana complained as she dodged a table sent flying her way.
Gramp would be mad. Cana thought as another table crashed against the quest board, shattering both in the process. There goes a couple of hundred grand in repair.
“They'd better stop soon, or else Master will be mad.” Wakaba voices her thoughts out loud. “He just replaced those tables; he won't be thrilled to replace them again in such a short time.”
“Someone told Lucy or Erza!!!!” Warrant cries.
But instead of Lucy and Erza, a small figure starts to approach the two fighting men.
“Natsu-san….”
“Gray-san…..”
Wendy called out. As soon as their names leave her mouth, the two idiots freeze on the spot. They looked at each other, then let each other go, and retreated slowly. Both turned their backs and fled to the opposite side of each other.
All quietly, silently, peacefully.
“Woah!”
The whole guild was taken by surprise.
Lucy and Erza ran up to the young girl, smiling and laughing, saying things they can't quite hear.
“Did we just see Wendy breaking them up?” Mirajane awed.
“And with no effort too…” Cana said in disbelief.
“We have found another miracle…” Max whispered.
“That is so manly…” Elfman muttered.
And no one would disagree with that!
