Heaven's Reminder

Summary:

When Jason died the first time, he didn't expect to come back. Neither did Heaven. So when he was brought back to living realm, they decided to make sure he'd never forget that his soul belonged to Heaven first.

How did they achieve this?

By giving him a literal halo above his head.

Notes:

Hi? This is my first time posting a fanfic and I only made this because I made a comment on Youtube and I didn't want to let down the people that got excited so...

Let's hope this doesn't suck.

Also sorry if the characters act weird, I don't know much about Jason...

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jason Todd was used to hiding a lot of things from his family.

In his defense, it was hard to talk to a lot of them, especially Bruce after everything that had happened to him. It wasn't that he hated them (most of them, anyway...), he just didn't know how to tell them about a lot of things.

One thing he had zero intention of ever telling them however, was the fact he had a halo above his head. Why? Because someone in heaven decided to screw him over in the weirdest way possible. He didn't even know why it was still there, considering all the people he'd ever killed, justified as most of them were. But still...

Unfortunately for Todd, life seemed to enjoy making his existence very complicated.

Which meant his secret did not get to stay a secret. And out of all the people that found out... it just had to be Bruce bat-furry Wayne.

It had been early in the morning, Jason was in his temporary room in the manner (he wasn't staying... obviously..), trying to fix his broken helmet, which currently had a large crack across the eye guard from when Killer Croc decided it would be funny to throw him into a wall and it ended up causing the damage to his visor.

Annoying bastard...

He'd heard a knock at his door, but had been far to focused on cursing out his own helmet to tell them not to bother him, which led to Bruce opening his door...

...and seeing the very much visible halo above his head.

"Hey Jason, Dick was wonderi-...what?"

"What do you want, B-... oh fu-"

"Language." Bruce said without thinking, staring at the halo in utter disbelief, confused on why there was a halo on his son's head, and very much worried that Jason was going to die again. Not a fun train of thought.

Jason noticed this, and slowly put down his helmet, looking at Bruce as he tried not to also panic about the fact Bruce knew about his little... added feature, "Bruce... I can explain-"

"Are you hurt? Did someone curse you? Do I need to call Alfred-" Bruce was rambling, holding Jason by the arms as he spiraled, not wanting to lose his son yet again, while also be confused as hell on how the halo even existed.

"...'m fine, Bruce. I ain't dying... yet. It's nothing serious... just a uh... side affect of dying the first time... I think.." Jason mumbled, more embarrassed than worried at this point.

"Not helping Jason!"

Jason sighed, knowing Bruce would probably be in mother-hen mode for a while unless he got someone to save him, however he also really didn't want the others to find out as well, so it was truly a lose-lose situation.

Reluctantly, Jason managed to drag a still panicking Bruce over to his bed, sitting the older man down so that he didn't pass out on the ground from worrying to hard. Sitting beside him, he was surprised when he was suddenly grabbed and pulled into a very hard to escape bear hug from Bruce, but for once... he didn't mind the physical affection.

He'd just steal a few tires from the Batmobile later.

Notes:

Sorry if this sucked, I speed-ran writing this and have very little knowledge on Bruce and Jason's characters. Damian and Tim are my current hyper-fixations when it comes to the Batfamily so... sorry?
