There were too many funerals after the Jingu Fiasco, and Majima couldn't stand it. Sitting through his boss' funeral made him want to puke, so he left. He didn't exactly remember leaving, and he had no intention of going anywhere specific, but he was inexplicably drawn to one place where no one would think to find him; the roof of Kamuro Castle.
Of course his hasty retreat and subsequent mental breakdown wouldn't go unnoticed. He had more friends than he thought, after all.
