Work Text:
In all honesty, a year was more than enough time to get over a break up, but in Usagi's defense she had believed her romance to be destiny. The universe had seemed to go all out to prove it too.
And yet somehow it ended in such a mundane way as a break up.
A year has passed, and her friends must have been at their wit ends to set her up on a blind date of all things.
And then he comes in. She can't take her eyes of--him? Them?
They sit down opposite of her, and Usagi has just enough time to wonder if this is a prank, before they speak, "I'm Kermit. Kermit the Frog."
Kermit's voice is nasal and over-articulated. He sticks out a.... hand? And Usagi takes it. Her dainty hand dwarfs it and she takes to pinching it between two fingers.
"I'm Usagi," She replies, trying to keep the confusion out of her voice.
"I'm sorry for the shock," Kermit offers. "I'm sure you have a lot of questions."
Usagi swallows and nods. "Are you..."
"Yes, I'm a frog."
That isn't what she was going to ask. She squirms in her seat slightly. Is he a puppet? If he is, who is puppeting him? This is a prank, obviously. Oh, she's going to KILL her friends. At the very least they could've done this somewhere besides a public restaurant.
"Oh, no, yeah, that's fine, of course," she manages. Think, Usagi. Either her friends are making fun of her, or the date is actually with a puppeteer with a questionable sense of humor (or like, terrible scars or soemthing?) or she's currently sitting across from an animate piece of cloth. "So... uh..."
Kermit, that was his name wasn't it, tilted his head and leaning ever so slightly forward. She looked at him before, glancing away again, looking for anything to divert the conversation.
The Menu! "Have you been here much before?" She smoothly finished. "It's my first time here, do you have any suggestions?"
It was rude to stare wasn't it, how long does she make eye contact for. She smiled awkwardly. He? They? It? Anyway, Kermit returned the smile.
"A few times here and there, mainly with an old friend, Miss Piggy."
She didn't want to know. She didn't she swore. "Miss Piggy?"
"Why yes," Kermit leaned back in his chair. "The most wonderful lady in the whole world."
Yikes, why did she agree to let her friend's set her up. Why! She was never doing this again, of course she was doing this again. As she looks up, she see's that Kermit's finished his long-winded ramble. She blinks across at him awkwardly.
He smiles back, she checks her watch. It'd been five minutes.
She was doomed.
"So, have you tried the frog legs?"
Shoot, shoot, damn it.
Why Usagi!!! Why!!!!
