Roguelite

Summary:

The morning before the entrance exam, One For All awakens something within Izuku. His original quirk, dormant and unformed, feeds off the power until it becomes Rougelite.

Infinite lives, infinite retries, and the ability to improve himself, at the cost of resetting to this moment after every death. At first, he sees this as a gift, helping him become the best possible hero. How long will that view lasts as he dies again and again for the sake of his friends?

Chapter Text

Izuku gasps awake, sitting up in an empty void. Looking down, he sees a stone platform, keeping the foggy void from consuming him.

A man steps out of the void, white hair flowing through the wind. “I thought it'd take much longer…” He looks off into the distance, squinting. “Ah, that would explain it. Must've kick-started its activation.”

The man looks back down at him. “Sorry, you must be confused. I'm Yoichi, the first user of One For All. Nice to meet you, Ninth.” He crouches down, holding out a hand.

Izuku hesitantly shakes his hand, looking at him carefully. “Okay… how can I communicate with you? What got kick-started? Where are we even at?” All Might said he'd know when the quirk came in, but he didn't expect this.

“Well to start, you know that One For All is a stockpile.” Yoichi stands back up. “But it stockpiles more than powers. It can stockpile quirks, and with them, the vestiges of their users. I'm technically not a real person, but I'm me in enough ways to make sense.” He holds a hand over his chest.

Yoichi turns around, looking out into the void. “But the stockpile can also empower quirks. You have a quirk.” He gestures at the platform. “Unformed and inaccessible, but a quirk nonetheless. But when One For All met it, it gave enough energy for it to grow into one of the strangest quirks I've ever seen.” With a gesture, the fog lowers down.

In the distance, he can see stone bricks falling from the sky, stacking on top of each other before exploding into dust. Holographic screens pop up throughout the air, branching energy flowing out of them into the void beneath.

“So this is my quirk?” Izuku jumps as chains shoot throughout the air, holding the void down. “It seems to be some sort of mental space, but that doesn't feel strange enough. What does it do?” While this sounds slightly hard to believe, if a transferable quirk exists, this is nothing.

Yoichi sits down on the platform, his legs hanging off the edge into the void. “No, this is just One For All’s vestige realm that it hijacked. Your quirk would be classified as a gamer quirk.” The void crawls up his legs before a wave of papers sweeps over his legs. “The exact mechanics are hard to read, but the important part is that you have infinite lives but each death resets you here.” He places a hand on the platform.

Izuku leans forward. “A gamer quirk? Those usually have busted mechanics with them. So I just reset here and can wake up back where I died?” He tilts his head while mumbling under his breath.

Does it have skill trees? A hud? Maybe it'll have some random cosmetic stuff. Summons? Magical weapons?

“No. You'll come back to this realm, able to start from the morning of the entrance exam.” Yoichi sighs. “I believe it's more reality manipulation than timeline hopping or temporal shifting, but that's mostly a guess.” The void surges up, forcing him to pull his legs up.

Izuku scoots a bit closer to the middle. “So like a roguelike. I'll make the most of it, I swear!” He smiles at Yoichi, forcing down the anxiety crawling in his mind.

Yoichi smiles back. “Good. Our time is almost up, but I'll give you a tip.” He leans forward to dodge another surge of void. “One For All is too strong for your body. Spread it out and use as little of it as possible, working your way up. You'll be amazing, Ninth-”

The platform shatters, dropping them into the void.

Izuku gasps awake, sitting up and quickly turning off his alarm. Energy buzzes beneath his skin before slowly fading back down to nothing. Looking down, he can see his blankets twisted around his legs.

“I guess I should test it.” He untangles himself from the blankets before getting up, doing some stretches.

He almost wishes he had taken the extra day and got the quirk this morning, since then he wouldn't have to redo tests. Then again, he wouldn't have the tips from Yoichi, so he might've injured himself more.

With a deep breath, he focuses, calling on One For All. The quirk buzzes beneath his skin, spreading from his chest outwards. He imagines it like a dial, slowly turning it up by a percentage each. Anywhere past 2% makes his bones start to ache painfully.

Izuku frowns. “That's it? Hopefully this is enough to get into university…” He looks at his arms, a faint glow coming off of them. “I'll make sure it's enough.” He nods before turning to his closet, starting to get dressed.

He looks up at UA, the greatest university in Japan looming above him. “Okay… I just have to get into the most competitive school of all time. I got this!” He focuses on this false confidence, walking forward with determination in his eyes-

Only to immediately trip. Welp, my first death will be denting my head on UA’s sidewalk, not the worst way to go-

A hand smacks his ass, making him yelp before he suddenly starts floating. “Huh?”

“Release!” He lands on the ground, turning to a brown haired girl. “Sorry for using my quirk on you, and the poorly aimed hit… I just thought it'd be bad luck to trip before the exam!” Her cheeks burn red.

His cheeks quickly shift color to match hers. “No, no, it's okay! Thank you. Good luck on the exam!” He takes the chance to rush into the building before he makes a fool of himself again.

Izuku pushes that interaction out of his mind, heading to the area for the written portion of the test. It's run by Ectoplasm, just the sight of a pro hero spiking his excitement. Luckily, I already have his autograph. I really don't feel like repeating the embarrassment of asking for one every single run.

When the test starts, he immediately gets to work on the questions. Certainly difficult, but nothing the mock exams didn't prepare him for. Still, his anxiety creeps into his mind as the timer slowly ticks down.

After triple checking his answers and thankfully only having to change a couple of them, he finishes the exam with about ten minutes left. He spends that time trying to calm himself down, focusing on the buzzing of One For All in his veins. Once the timer ends, he heads to the auditorium.

Present Mic walks out, standing behind the podium. “Heya listeners! Welcome to UA. The best of you will spend the next couple of years here! Now I'm gonna give you all the rundown of the practical exam. Are you ready?!” He grins, gesturing at the crowd.

Izuku winces at the dead silence.

“Geez, tough crowd.” Present Mic pouts for a moment before grinning. “Alright! As you can see on the printout, you all have designated test sites to head to. Once you get there, you get to fight robots!” The screen shows a robot with a 1.

Two other robots pop on the screen, with a 2 and 3 respectively. “There are three scored robots. They give you the amount of points it says on the tin, pretty simple. The higher the number, the more difficult to destroy it is!”

Could I destroy them with this percentage? Izuku looks at his hands with a frown. I mean I doubt I can shatter metal, I don't even know the proper punching form. But there has to be weak points, right? Otherwise mental quirks would be completely screwed. He bites his lip.

“Excuse me! You spoke of three robots while the printout shows four! A mistake like this has no place in a prestigious university!” A guy with blue hair stands up.

He points at Izuku. “And you! Do you think this exam is a joke?!” He chops at the air. “Your muttering is distracting everyone else here! Take our professor seriously or get out of here!” He sits back down, a deep frown on his face.

Present Mic winces. “Whoa, I was getting to that, listener. And leave lectures to the staff.” A fourth robot appears on screen. “This is the zero pointer! It's meant to be an obstacle instead of a target. Avoid it because it will not show mercy!” He leans forward on the podium. “Now go out there! Remember, no attacking each other!”

Izuku sighs, getting up and starting to walk. He just sighs harder when Bakugou shoulder checks him on the way past.

Instead of focusing on the others in the testing sight, Izuku closes his eyes, taking a deep breath. One For All buzzes underneath his skin, 2% flowing through his body. No matter what, he's going to get into UA.

“START!”

His eyes snap open as he dashes forward, weaving through the crowd and sprinting through the gate. He slams a punch into a one pointer, hissing as his hand dents the metal but stings from the pain.

Instead, he decides to copy Mirko. He jumps up, slamming his leg down onto the neck of the robot, beheading it. “One point!”

He sprints over to another one pointer, grabbing its head with both arms. Even as it tries to hit him, one twist manages to wrench off the head. “Two!” When a two pointer runs at him, he just rears back a hand, throwing the head. It explodes in a burst of sparks. “Four!”

Izuku tears the tail off of another two pointer, kicking its face in until it collapses. “Six!” A three pointer turns to try and target him, so he throws the tail like a javelin.

Unfortunately, the missiles it shot exploded too soon. “Damn, I wanted to jam it!” He dashes closer, only to have to run away from more missiles. “Okay, not risking that!” He jumps over a one pointer, letting it explode instead of him. “That's seven!”

He grabs a metal shard from it, throwing it at a two pointer and spearing it through the camera. “Nine! Why doesn't All Might throw things more often, super strength throwing is fun!” He tears the tail off the two pointer, throwing it at another two pointer.

“Eleven!”

“Twenty four!” He picks up the head of a one pointer, throwing it at the back of a three pointer. It makes enough of a dent that he throws a two pointer tail to spear through it. “Twenty seven, finally!”

He'd been trying to kill one of those since the start but those missiles were proving to be quite a problem. Luckily, the solution was backshots.

Izuku stumbles as the ground shakes violently. Looking up, he spots a zero pointer, the massive form tearing through buildings with every bit of progress it makes.

Another student almost barrels through him while running away. “UA really goes plus ultra on everything, huh?” He turns around, trying to scan around for any other robots. Most are already getting taken down by others, but he can see a couple he could go for-

“Help me! Please!”

He whips around, spotting the girl who helped him before the exam. Rubble surrounds her, more falling down as buildings collapse.

Izuku already started running the second he saw her, One For All pushing up to 4%. His bones ache from the power, but he feels as light as a feather, speeding to her and crouching down. “Okay, I don't think I can safely remove the rubble. Can you float me? I have a plan.” He holds out his hand.

She hesitates for a second before touching his hand with all five fingers. “What's your plan?”

“Just watch.” He crouches down before jumping. The pain makes him hiss, but it doesn't feel like anything broke. He just floats up into the sky, punching the air so he slows down right in front of the zero pointer.

He takes a deep breath. “This is gonna hurt.” He rears back his arm, power flowing into the limb. It blasts past 4%, soaring up until 100% buzzes through his limb like a live wire. Without a moment of hesitation, he punches forward.

“SMASH!”

As he watches the head of the zero pointer sent from the force of the massive punch, he feels his gravity return, sending him falling from several stories in the sky. “Really, my first death is gonna be from falling? I mean I guess it didn't involve a rooftop so it could've been more ironic, but still-”

A hand smacks him across the cheek, cancelling his gravity again. He smiles at the girl as she flips him around to normal orientation before returning his gravity. “Hey, thanks for the save.” He winces at his horribly bruised arm.

She goes to respond before turning to the side, vomiting onto the rubble. After wiping it off, she turns to him. “You risked your life for me, I should be thanking you!”

“I just did what a hero would. Now how much time is left?” He goes to look, but an alarm buzzes, signalling the end of the exam. At the same time, his vision goes black, a pop up appearing.

Congratulations, you have completed a battle!
You have gained 1 SP (skill point) and 10 EXP (experience points).

As this is your first victory with your quirk active, you need a tutorial!

He blinks at the sight. “Huh, so this is a rougelite? I was kinda joking with that comparison. Alright, let's see this, I guess.” As soon as he says that, it continues.

SP is a resource that is built outside of runs.
It will be explained after your first loss.
EXP is only built up inside runs, allowing you to level up.
The mechanics of leveling up will be explained once you level up for the first time.

Victories now come with rewards!
Since this was a risk level one battle, you get a choice of a common quirk.
Would you like to roll for your options?

“Wait what?!” His quirk can give him a quirk? That's insane, it makes no sense. It spits in the face of everything that he knows about quirks! Then again, so did One For All. And he always did want a chance to test out other nuanced quirks with how much he researched them…

Izuku sighs. If he had a body in whatever this was, he'd be putting his head in his hands. “Alright, let's roll.”

The visual of dice rolling across a table pops up his visions, exploding into light as they come to a stop. When the light fades, three white orbs appear in his vision. With a bit of focus, their descriptions pop up above them.

Dust Bunny
The user can transform their body into dust

Tripwire
The user can create a wire they are constantly aware of

Sudden Stop
The user can suddenly stop their momentum with no ill effects

“Sudden Stop would've been really useful there, could've saved me from that brush with death.” He sighs, going to put his hand on his chin before realizing he has no body. “Okay, can I have some sort of form here, please?” After a moment of nothing, he looks down, seeing a mannequin body in the place of his own.

He shrugs, the shoulders following the movement. “Good enough.” He looks back at the options. “I can see what they mean by common quirks, more weak ones. At least, they're weak at first glance. Depends on the nuances.”

First off, Dust Bunny. Could be useful for getting through small gaps, compressing the body to do so. It could help to avoid attacks, letting them sink into the dust rather than injuring him. Though if he got it, he definitely would need to test what happens if he removes some dust from him and reforms.

Tripwire could be good for surveillance but not really for regular hero work. Though he still considers it. After all, how strong is the wire? How do you actually set it up? There just isn't enough information to take it.

Sudden Stop sounds useless at first, since he doesn't plan to fall from heights anytime soon. But he could easily spam it to cancel out the effect of gravity, just letting him float in midair. Could be useful both for traversal and dodging.

“Okay, I'm ruling out Tripwire immediately.” He puts his hand on his chin. “Dust Bunny and Sudden Stop… One could let me reduce the damage of physical attacks, while the other could let me reduce the damage from momentum. I wonder what would happen if I used One For All while turned to dust? It could help me use higher percentages-” A screen pops up.

NOTE:
At your current state, you can only use one quirk at a time.
(excluding constantly active quirks)

Izuku sighs. “Okay, that's unfortunate.” Having to drop One For All to switch on Dust Bunny before an attack sounds like a pain. “While it would also be painful for Sudden Stop, I feel like the timing window would be less tight.” He nods to himself, touching Sudden Stop.

Reality comes back to him, making him blink. “Ah… Well I hope I did good enough. I'm sure you did!” He smiles at the girl beside him.

“I hope so.” She smiles weakly. “Now go and see if they can help you with… that.” She gestures as his arm, still hanging limply at his side. Blood has started dripping off of it, so he probably does need some help.

Izuku winces at the pain before squinting, looking forward. “Oh hey, it's Recovery Girl!” One For All fills his body as he sprints towards her, stumbling from spikes of pain.

After a week full of testing out Sudden Stop, he sits in his room with the letter from UA. “Surprisingly heavy…” He opens it out, only for a metal disk to slide onto his desk. A click rings out before a holographic display flows above it.

“I am here, as a projection!” All Might appears, fully buffed up. “Sorry for not responding to any of your requests. The truth is, I was busy becoming a staff member of UA! And now I get to deliver you your results.” He grins. “Now you ended with a total of 27 villain points. That alone would leave you close, but barely missing out on the hero course.” He frowns, looking down while Izuku feels his stomach drop. “Luckily, we don't score off just villain points!” All Might perks up.

The video changes, showing the girl he saved asking Present Mic if he could give her some of his points. The sight makes his face warm up more than it should. She's probably just being nice.

All Might reappears, the screen behind him showing him denting the zero pointer. “What type of institution would UA be if it didn't reward heroic behavior?” He chuckles. “Rescue points! Points given from acts of heroism done to assist your fellow examinees! And from your hard work to save this girl, you get 60 rescue points!” His score rockets up. “With a total of 87 points, you take first place, passing with flying colors! Welcome to your hero academia!”

After a healthy bit of Midoriya tears flooding his room, he looks back in the envelope to see some papers. Mostly just general information about the dress code and the curriculum he can expect. “It seems like I'll be in… Class 1-A!” He smiles-

And in a blink, he's in the void again. “I didn't complete another fight, right?” A rock with glowing markings appears in front of him, floating in the air. Like usual, a screen appears with it.

You've achieved your first milestone!
Milestones are events that can be reached to unlock trinkets and metaprogression.
Would you like to receive your reward for: Getting into Class 1-A of UA?

Izuku blinks. “A milestone? Huh.” He reached out, grabbing the rock with the mannequin hand. “Let's see what it'll give me.” As he says that, the rock floats up, growing and cracking before finally exploding in a blast of light. All that's left is a notebook that's nearly his size.

You've gained the Logbook!
It is currently empty, but it will hold any unlocks labeled as logs.
Can only be accessed while in quirkspace either during or before a run.

“A logbook, huh? I really wish I could go back to that area that First was in.” He frowns, looking down. “Without dying and repeating the last week, of course.” With a sigh, he takes the Logbook, returning to reality.

The system detects events proceeding within 90% accuracy to canon.
Would you like to skip to the next non-canon event?

YES___NO

Izuku finds himself in the void again. Looking down, he still has the mannequin body, now covered with the hero costume his mom made. “At least it's better than just the mannequin.” A screen pops up in front of him.

+3 SP
+30 EXP
Initiating quirk roll: Rare!

Once again, it does the flashy rolling animation, though the dice look more fancy. Once the light fades, he's left with three blue orbs in front of him.

Slime
The user can turn their body into slime

Graphite Manipulation
The user can manipulate graphite

Double Bite
The user gains a second mouth on the end of their tongue. Both sets of teeth are sharp with powerful bite force

“Okay, Double Bite is out.” He frowns. “While I could use it non-lethally, it would also probably make talking very weird, and I don't want to have to worry about that when I just started the school year.” He looks between the other two.

Slime could just be a better version of Dust Bunny. Perfect for taking hits and for morphing his body into different shapes. But still, how would it react to him splitting apart? What would be the limit on how much he can compress or stretch himself? Things he'd have to test if he got it.

Graphite Manipulation would need a good source of graphite for him to use. He could get it from pencils, but that would require lots of them. Would he need to see it to manipulate it or would it just need to be near him? If it's just near him, it would be much more powerful, but the alternative would still be useful.

When thinking about the quirk usage limit, Graphite Manipulation seems the best. Slime is good, but is a lot harder to mix in with his current kit. But Graphite Manipulation could either be used to form constructs or send long range projectiles, depending on the manipulation range.

Izuku winces. “Don't know how I'm gonna explain this one… I'm just lucky I haven't had to use Sudden Stop yet.” He sighs, shaking his head. “I need to stop being so negative. Everything's going to be fine!” He touches Graphite Manipulation.

Y'know, he thought that the break in made it clear enough that he jinxed itself. Apparently life disagreed and decided it was time for a villain attack!

Izuku lands on the boat, coughing as he switches to Graphite Manipulation. “Ah, Asui! Mineta! Are you two alright?” He turns to Asui and Mineta.

Asui frowns at him. “Call me Tsu, kero. They haven't managed to hurt any of us yet.” She looks at Mineta, who's blubbering on the ground. “Are you sure you want to be a hero, kero?”

Mineta sits up, wiping away his tears. “I do, but I just want to be a hero to get laid! I didn't sign up to fight crazy people!” He stands up. “Seriously, they say they can kill All Might. No one can do that!” He tries to sneak closer to Tsu, but she just steps away.

Izuku turns away before wincing. All Might’s weakened… Killing him is plausible, unfortunately. He looks over the edge of the railing. “So many water quirk based villains, but they sent Tsu here. Clearly they don't know our quirks.” He turns back to Tsu. “Do you think you could jump out of this zone?” He ignores Mineta calling him crazy.

“I could, kero, but not while carrying you both.” She looks off the edge of the boat towards the plaza. “Do you have a plan, kero?” She tilts her head.

He nods. “Do you think you could make it with just Mineta?” He switches from One For All to Sudden Stop. Switching quirks feels almost like flipping the page of his notebook, opening a new set of possibilities.

Mineta points at him. “You better not try to stay behind! You're strong, but you can't beat a bunch of villains!”

Tsu looks down at Mineta before looking at him. “I could, but I'm not leaving a classmate behind, kero.” She stumbles as the metal of the boat groans, an attack splitting it in two.

“Just throw me across! I won't die, trust me.” He meets her eyes, staring in silence for a few seconds. Eventually, her tongue wraps around him, picking him up and throwing him across the lake.

Izuku flips around so he can face the ground, watching it slowly approach. He waits until the last second before impact before activating the quirk, all his momentum disappearing before he lands in a crouch, switching back to One For All.

Turning around, he watches Tsu leap with Mineta held in her tongue. A spear of water barely misses them and Mineta immediately starts to throw out his balls in a panic, purple balls swirling in the water. The villains try to dodge them, only to push against each other. Bit by bit, they all manage to get stuck together in a massive chain of purple.

Tsu lands beside him. “What're you standing here for, kero? Let's head back to the stairs and get out of here.” Mineta reaches for her chest only to get dropped.

Izuku opens his mouth before frowning. “I don't know… I feel like I could do more.” He glances towards the plaza.

Aizawa weaves through villains, slamming them into the ground, each other, and more all while avoiding their attacks. His hair rises and falls with his quirk, even if his goggles make the target unclear. He's slowing down. Slowly but surely, he keeps having to blink sooner.

“We need to help him.” He reaches down, fumbling with the belt he put on over his training outfit. Specifically, fumbling with the pouch on it.

Mineta looks at him with an appalled expression. “Are you crazy?! We're just students, he's a full blown pro hero!” He grabs Izuku’s pants leg, yanking on it harshly. “We gotta get out of here!”

Tsu sighs. “For once, I agree with Mineta’s cowardice. We'd just get in sensei’s way.” Mineta gives her an insulted look before returning to his yanking.

Izuku switches to Graphite Manipulation as he pulls out a large chunk of graphite. “I have a plan. We don't even need to get close, just watch.” The chunk, which he made using a bunch of pencil lead, floats up into the air. He splits it apart into a bunch of different shards, focusing to sharpen the edges of them.

He sends them towards the crowd, lowering them so he can aim for the ankles. Villains stumble, looking down at their bleeding ankles before getting a kick to the face from Aizawa. He focuses on the graphite, aiming the shards to carefully slice more villains.

The man covered in hands is talking, but he can't focus on that. He just needs to get a few more down, just a bit more-

“By the way, hero… I'm not the boss here.”

In a flash of movement, the person beside the villain pins Aizawa down. His eyes flash red, trying to cancel their quirk, but his arm just gets snapped like a twig in response.

“Meet the bioengineered Anti-Symbol of Peace, Nomu.” The man chuckles. “Your quirk can't do anything against his pure strength.” He steps back.

Darkness swirls beside him, the warper appearing. “Shigaraki Tomura. Thirteen is down, but a student did manage to escape.” The man forms fully, a metal brace clearly visible. Possibly a sign of a real body under there?

Shigaraki pauses before reaching up, starting to itch at his neck. “Kurogiri, if you weren't my ticket out of here, I'd dust you for that.” His nails dig deep into his neck. “Pros are gonna swarm this place. We don't have the resources for a boss rush! It's game over.” He stands up straight, pulling his hands away. “We're leaving.”

Tsu has to shove Mineta down to stop him from cheering. “I have a bad feeling about this, kero.” She takes a step back.

“Me too, something's wrong.” Izuku steps in front of her, trying to pull the graphite back. Just in case, he could use it as a shield or something.

When he looks back up, Shigaraki is making eye contact with him. “But first, let's kill some kids.” He drops down, dashing forward. “It'll be the perfect gift to wound All Might’s pride!”

Izuku freezes as the fingers slowly close around his head. He tries to back up, to switch quirks, anything, but he just freezes as the fifth finger touches his skin. But… nothing happens.

“So cool, Eraserhead.” A loud slam echos out from behind Shigaraki.

He tries to back away, but Shigaraki closes the distance, grabbing his head. This time, his fingers sink in as cracks spread across his face. He screams out, struggling as his face burns with pain. The fingers just slide deeper into his disintegrated skin, pain consuming him even as the nerves turn to dust. When darkness consumes him, he's grateful.

You Died!
SP: 4

Izuku collapses onto the stone platform, gasping for air. He reaches up, touching his face, and not feeling any dust. “Okay, I'm okay…” Counting in his head while tapping the stone helps him calm down some.

Yoichi steps out of the void again. “Hey, it's alright, Ninth. Your first death was from saving others, pretty fitting.” He smiles, reaching down to help him stand up. “Want to see the realm your quirk created?” Izuku nods, so Yoichi waves his hand, the void receding.

A large circle of black rock surrounds the main platform, forming a large plaza. On one side, he can see the Logbook he had unlocked. It floats up into the air before landing on an equally sized stone table. Directly in front of him, though, he can spot a menu, like when he was picking quirks.

Congratulations!
You have died for the first time.
For this, you unlock Skilltrees and the Skill point viewer.
Would you prefer the physical version or the digital version?

“I'll take the physical version.” Like with writing, he prefers to do most things physically. Feels more real than doing stuff on his phone.

A table made out of smooth stone forms in front of him, green vines adorning the legs of it. On his side, there's a cup with four glowing crystal shards. “What is this?”

Initiating tutorial…
Skilltrees require skill points to be used.
For the sake of this tutorial, we'll give you six free skill points!

Six more shards fall into the cup. “Alright, that explains what those are. May I see the skillstrees?” As he speaks, the smooth tabletop cracks apart, several circles forming. All but four of them have lock symbols covering them.

Skilltrees are unlocked by completing certain milestones!
They allow you to make yourself stronger for future runs by using skill points.
They even allow for you to unlock new quirks for future runs!
By default, four Skilltrees are unlocked.
Displaying now…

Four of the circles light up, the others closing up. Four stone tablets grow out of the table, writing being etched into them simultaneously. The main thing he spots is the shard shaped holes below sections of writing, seemingly being the cost. “Okay, let's look at what we have…” He glances at the skillstrees.

Izuku sighs, noticing the stone chair below him before falling into it. “Shit, that's a lot of information. I don't suppose all of it has a tutorial either?” So many terms with no explanation to work off of.

Yoichi sits down beside him. “I spent some time trying to interface with the quirk during your run. If you ask questions while addressing the system, it will usually respond.”

“System, what is PPP?” He tries to ignore Yoichi’s snort beside him, along with how dumb he feels saying it.

PPP is an acronym.
It stands for Parallel Processing Power.
This is just a fancy term used for how many quirks you can use simultaneously.
Your PPP is currently at 1, only allowing one quirk to be active at a time.

He looks at the Life Skilltree. “So that only adds four so it can be a multiple of five. Definitely my quirk then.” Izuku sighs at Yoichi’s cackling beside him. “System, what is Luck?”

Luck determines how lucky you are.
The most common application of this is quirk rarity.
With higher Luck, you have a tiny chance to boost the rarity of your quirk selection.
It can also be applied to general random events.
This can range from an ally happening to be nearby during combat to assist you to a meteor hitting your opponent.

Izuku puts a hand on his chin. “Okay, so that could be useful, but not a main focus. I think I want to focus on the Life Skilltree first. Not only do I get a revive, but I also get more SP gain. What do you think?” He turns his head.

Yoichi stops his laughing, glancing at the Skilltrees. “I think that could be good. More starting percentage of One For All could be good, but not a focus.” He nods, turning to Izuku. “Just make sure to hyper optimize your exercise routine before the USJ. Might be able to reach 5% then if you really work yourself.”

He hums in agreement, reaching into the cup to pull out five shards. He slots each of them into their spot below the first upgrade, light slowly filling the cracks around them. Once they're all in, the light trails up to the next upgrade.

Out of curiosity, he does try to put a shard in the third upgrade instead of the second, but it repels it from even getting near those slots. So he just puts the remaining five into the second upgrade, filling it up halfway.

Izuku stands up, watching the tablets sink back into the table. “I think I'm ready for another run.” He steps towards the center platform…

Before hesitating. The feeling of fingers digging below his skin is hard to forget, making his full body shiver. “Let's hope my next death isn't as horrifying.” He hears Yoichi wish him good luck, but he focuses on stepping onto the stone platform, taking a deep breath as light consumes him.

Notes:

Welcome to Roguelite! A brainworm of a fic that's infested me ever since I saw the prompt from Flapjack. Here is the result of several weeks of planning before this first chapter!

I've made Skilltrees, Achievements, milestones, and more which will be fun to put to use here. Not to mention the quirks! I've made nearly 300 quirks just for this fic. For the most part, the quirk rolls will actually be random. It feels more fun that way.

Now for the elephant in the room, the Timeskip I did. I'll be honest, I just didn't feel like writing a section like that which is just barely different from canon. Don't worry, I will cover that general section next chapter, as it will be a bit more random then rather than the canon.

One thing to note is that this world is meant to be like canon, but a bit more dangerous. They don't have nearly as much luck on their side, having to act more deliberately to get out of danger alive.

I would like some feedback on this. Mainly with how I did the quirk selection and the skilltree stuff. I feel proud of it, but I don't know how good I actually did.

My boyfriend proofread this, so I don't feel like there will be many errors, but tell me any that the two of us missed. Hope you all enjoyed!
