Chapter Text
The Omega verse is a world where besides the binary genders (female and male) there exists a second set of genders known as Maturation. These secondary genders are more animalistic in nature and dictate the best role in which a person can contribute to society.
Dictionary:
Scent glands – Scent glands are found in every secondary gender. They rest on each side at the base of the neck and on the wrist of humans. They produce semi-viscous secretions which contain pheromones and other semichemical compounds. These odor-messengers indicate information such as status, mood, and sexual power. They often have their own smell depending on each person, it could be eucalyptus and mint, orange blossoms and coffee, or anything else of the sort. It can smell more during heat or rut and if the person’s emotions are running strong, it often indicates something is wrong to their mate and those nearby.
Presentation/Maturation – When a person presents/matures into their secondary gender; Alpha, Beta, or Omega.
Heat – the Heat is a period during the reproductive cycle when an omega is sexually receptive, signaling they are ready for mating. An Omega goes into heat once every month, which then can last from 3 to 10 days depending on the environment the Omega finds itself into. Heats can be triggered by an Alpha or Beta, or if the Omega is in a stressful or rough situation.
Rut - A periodic and often recurring state for Alphas, during which their behavior associated with the urge to breed is displayed. Usually, an Alpha goes into rut every two to three months or can be triggered by an Omega’s heat. It happens less often than omega's going into heat because an Alpha's body is able to regulate their needs a little bit better than omega's can.
Breed/Breeding – The act of impregnation.
Command – An order given by an Alpha, which forces the lower genders of the hierarchy to follow the command no matter their opinion or willingness to follow said order. Stronger Alphas can even give commands to weaker or lesser Alphas if they have enough power. Sometimes the orders given to Omegas hurt them if they try to resist the order, this causes them extreme pain most often then not leading them to submit to the order that was given.
Secondary Genders – Maturation. There are three genders a person can mature into (Alpha, Beta, Omega)
Age of Maturation
A child will present their second gender around the age of 13 years old. Thus, they enter what is known as maturation. Maturation normally lasts until 40 but in some cases lasts longer. Each maturation is different and presents itself in different ways.
Biology:
α Alpha:
Description: The Alpha stands at the top of the hierarchy. They are naturally charismatic, intelligent and excel in leadership roles. Are more powerful and have significantly higher places in society. Alphas can do whatever they want pretty much and face little consequences for it as opposed to Omegas who receive cruel and often harsh punishments and Betas who receive mild punishments.
Characteristics: An Alpha is usually taller, broader and physically stronger than the other secondary genders. They are aggressive by nature, especially in their younger days or in the presence of other Alphas. They are competitive and do not hesitate to show their dominance if the situation calls for it. They are able to dominate each of the other secondary genders, making them submit through their scent or commands. Strong enough Alphas can control other Alphas but not for long periods of time, most often only for a minute or two. However most Alphas will refuse to submit to anything or anyone, only surrendering if their lives or people that they care about are at risk.
Biology: Like every secondary gender, the Alpha possesses scent glands. The scent they produce is usually more aggressive and oppressing than those of the other genders, only dominated by the scent of an Omega in heat. Through their scent, they can easily control a room full of Betas, and Omegas, showing their intent or mood regarding the situation. Depending on the will of the Alpha, some Betas can resist the unspoken command. Alphas can also release a calming scent that can help de-escalate a situation and make their mated Omega calm down. it can work on unmated omegas and betas but it takes a little more effort./p>
Physical Biology:
An Alpha’s penis is different from that of a male Beta as at the base of the penis resides what is known as the bulbus glandis, usually referred to as the knot. A knot can inflate through sexual intercourse and will lock into the walls of a Beta or Omega in order to trap the sperm released after climax so that they may ensure maximum chance of breeding.
An Alpha is known to go into rut every two to three months, which can last from 3 to 10 days. During this period, an Alpha’s pheromones are much more potent, and they display a more aggressive behavior. However, unlike Omegas, Alphas are able to ignore and mostly control their rut without affecting society at large. Sometimes however, depending on the situation an Alpha will not be able to control their ruts at all.
β Beta:
Description: A Beta is the most common gender a human matures to. They are peaceful in nature and have a wide range of skills. They usually choose to specialize in a certain area and contribute to upholding society.
Characteristics: Betas can vary in strength, height, intelligence and skill. They are very cooperative and work in a hive mentality, sharing their knowledge, thoughts and resources in order to strengthen their community.
Biology: Just like Alphas, Betas also have scent glands which reside at the base of their neck and their wrists. The scent of a Beta is much more subdued than that of an Alpha, or Omega. For Betas, the primary gender plays a much bigger role than Alphas or Omegas. Both Male and Female Betas are able to get pregnant but only male Betas are able to impregnate. Female Betas, upon maturation, experience monthly bleeding which can last from 3 days up to a week, like a normal period however male Betas do not. All betas do not go through heat or rut.
Ω Omega:
Description: The Omega is known to be submissive and caring in nature. They like to nurture and take care of others. Often they lean more towards an Alpha they are mated to but if unmated lean towards any nearby Alpha or Beta for guidance and take care of them often seeing them as their own mate even if they aren’t bonded.
Characteristics: An Omega is physically weaker than the rest of the genders, however they are known for their agility and speed. This is speculated to be nature’s way to balance the genders, since Omegas lack the ability to protect themselves, thus creating a flight response to escape from predators and unwanted suitors if the situation calls for it. Omegas are softer in appearance, have a smoother complex and generally look more appealing to the other genders, especially Alphas. Omegas are easily submissive and can be seen as needy at times. They love being taken care of, and are codependent on their Alpha. Most don’t have a life outside the home, often letting the Alpha provide everything while they care for the house and children. Omegas get very clingy and dependent in heat. They are the gender which usually keeps the Alphas calm, though they can just as easily trigger aggressive behavior if certain terms are met. Omegas can sometimes be the only thing standing in between two Alphas, they can often de-escalate the situation before either Alpha starts a fight with the other.
Biology: The scent glands of an Omega reside, like in every other gender, on the base of their neck and wrists. The scent of an Omega is usually floral, sweet and very appealing to the other genders. They can overpower the scents of Betas but never that of Alphas unless they are in heat. An Omega is very fertile. However, they are most fertile while in heat, where the chance of pregnancy is 99%. Before entering heat, an Omega experiences pre-heat. Preheat can last up to a week or more, essentially preparing the Omega for the coming heat. Their scent becomes gradually more potent the closer they are to their heat. During this period, the Omega will prepare for a space in which they feel safe and guarded. This is usually referred to as their nest. The nest is cleaned and potentially re-organized, and is filled with articles of clothes or objects which carry the scents of their loved ones and is filled with food and water, as the Omega will be unable to prepare meals while they experience their heat. They also consume more food than they usually would in the days prior in order to prepare their body for the high levels of energy they will discharge during a heat cycle. Most nests are full of object like clothing or pictures or other objects that make them feel safe and secure. They remove anything that makes them uncomfortable or scared.
During pre-heat, an omega is coherent and aware of their decisions, thus, if wanted, the Omega can invite an Alpha or a Beta into their nest so that they may share their heat. After pre-heat, the Omega will immediately feel a spike in their body temperature as well as an ache in their vaginal walls, indicating that their heat has started. Their scent will have also become much more potent in hopes of attracting possible suitors. The heat can last from 3 to 10 days long. During this period, Omegas are rendered completely incoherent and wish for nothing more than to be bred and impregnated. During this period, the Omega is very vulnerable and each decision the Omega makes is out of desperation and thus not recommended to be followed. Most respectable Alphas will refuse an unmated Omega in heat for fear of them not being in their right mind unless explicitly given permission beforehand when the Omega was fully coherent and could give clear consent. If an Omega had not invited an Alpha or Beta into their nest during their pre-heat and an Alpha or Beta decides to enter an Omega’s nest without invitation, it is considered rape and punished accordingly. After the heat, the Omega will feel tired and sluggish and will once again resume eating large portions of meals until their energy levels are balanced once again. The longer an Omega goes unmated the stronger the heats get, and the worse the pain becomes during heat. Omegas can’t relieve themselves without causing themselves excruciating pain, they need the touch or presence of an Alpha or Beta’s pheromones to do so.
Alphas in extreme cases of rage or temporal high emotions can have their eyes flash and glow red often letting other Alphas know what’s about to happen. When this happens even the Omegas can’t de-escalate the situation.
There’s such a thing as heat hotels where Omegas can go to safely be in their heats without fear of being taken advantage of by Alphas or Betas. The hotels often offer services for Omegas to have a Beta or Alpha called into their room if requested to help with their heat without risk of being mated. Most don’t choose this option because the Alphas and Betas in question are not gentle or care about the Omegas in any way shape or form.
There are O/O relationships but they often don’t lead to anything serious and are instead more of a platonic bond and they help to care for each other in bad situations. Say if an Omega gets in a fight with their Alpha and needs somewhere to go they often go to the Omega they have a close bond with. If you are mated the longer you’re away from your mate the harder it gets to exist as an Omega, it causes pain and physically makes you sick. There are also B/B relationships that have similar affects, however these tend to last longer but not as long as a A/B pair because Betas have a harder time bonding with other Betas, and have more luck with an Alpha or Omega.
Bonds can be broken if in the early stages of being bonded but it’s a painful process and the longer you wait to break a bond the harder it gets. It does affect building bonds in the future and if you have too many broken bonds you won’t be able to form one at all. Breaking of bonds are extremely hard on the Omega and often or not lead to hospitalization while Alphas really only feel a slight pain, almost like a pressure building on the back of their neck. Alphas can have multiple mates while Betas and Omegas can only have one. Most Omegas don’t mind sharing their Alphas because the Alphas commands them not to care, long permanent commands like these often start to take a toll on the person it’s commanded upon but it takes years to manifest.
Collaring is often done between mates, either along with or opposed to claiming bites. An alpha will present their mate omega or beta, with a collar. This was often seen as a way of claiming, as often the collars presented to an alpha's mate had their initials or name on them to warn other alpha's that they were taken. It was also seen as a form of showboating, a simple collar with a charm was seen as you didn't care about your mate, you were not worried about the amount of money spent on caring for your mate. over the top, expensive, flashy collars were a way to show off your money, but seen as a way of how much you cared for your mate.
