We assume Roe Deer doesn't logclaim but he sort of did in the exploration logs (which is integrated into the lore now), and assuming this is an individual incident, that means two people made fun of the B-movie ghost in a row, it was never archived, and very soon after (presuming it's accessed monthly, not even a year) Viper is considered an up and coming rookie instead of Roe Deer. The timeline is bizarre

Employee D fails. He can clear ghost stories effortlessly, but he loses people when he does so. Employee D only ever gets humanist underlings because in a story, it's important to contrast the characters and add tension. He's also used as a moment of levity in dense exploration logs, or to address what pure force can do. Everyone in Daydream has items. We see how Viper got his grubby mitts on every item he uses, and his ability to barter is fun to read. Roe Deer offers nothing new, and the lack of context makes the writing bad.

It’s not in tales, it’s in exploration logs. One of the “And Then There Was Someone” logs mentions Viper, so it’s probably the same incident. DER rules require tales to be in line with the main entry, and there’s been some tension between Roe Deer’s account and the logs before, but this tale explicitly contradicts Viper’s version of events with no possible explanation as for why.
Regression is the main theory because Roe Deer been almost nonexistent in exploration logs but an epidemic in tales, and in most of them he does the perfect thing or uses the perfect item with very little buildup. It’s very mary sue on its face unless there’s a reason for it. (Alternate explanations are alien, Darkness, demonic contract with Mr. Host, etc.)
The most obvious in-text moment that contributes to the theory is how much shit from Space Shopping Mall he has. There’s no reason for a rookie to know about the service, but Lizard/Employee D is his team lead. Everything makes sense if Roe Deer built a relationship with Lizard, was given access to the business, and then went back in time with that knowledge. (Link to the entry that ties Employee D to Space Shopping Mall.)
Basically, if this tale got mod approval despite contradicting exploration logs, it’s now confirmed canon that Roe Deer is retconning his way through DER (without retconning DER itself, obviously.)
