Work Text:
reasons why the President lies
1. you have an expectation to live up to. your father hurt the country and it is your sole responsibility to repair, to heal the broken spirits of people betrayed one too many times.
2. you have a duty to uphold. no exceptions no matter how hard your facade cracks. he isn’t your brother anyway, so what does it matter Mr. President? one rowdy soul for the approval of
hundreds is always correct.
3. you belong to this broken country. a child soldier who tried your damn hardest to get the freedom we deserved.
4. you push him away. why would he ever want you anyway? you don’t deserve him, he’s here because he has to be here. it’s his job. your minutes man.
5. he could kill you. anyone could. little scapegoat, so obedient to His command.
6. you could kill him. send him away like you did with your supposed “brother”. no wonder you were never his favourite. you are nobody’s favourite. nobody asked for you.
7. you stumble home drunk at four AM. if you can even call your house a home. you spend more time stumbling around the world drunk than you spend sleeping in what’s supposedly your bed. funny, since you’ve seen the office chair as your bed for a while.
8. you love him, no matter how much you deny it. you can only hope that you don’t spill the beans out of the bag while you have a bottle between your fingers
9. you don’t deserve him and his unwavering care. the way he guides you home when you bump into him seven bottles deep. the way he wraps a coat around you, as if anything has ever shielded you. you suppose your hands and arms were good, but the scorching flesh dripping away from your arm is anything but a welcome memory of your second death.
10. you need to get a hold of yourself. stop catching glimpses of his soft face that hangs onto your every word. stop smiling as he trots behind you like a pet, tail wagging. stop giggling, hiccuping from downing a bottle in one go because you were busy thinking of the crystalline eyes that will never be able to meet yours outside of your deluded, messed up head.
reasons why the President tells the truth
1. because you’re drunk on a Saturday night at 2am
2. because he confessed hoping all would be forgotten in the morning
3. because you kissed him rather than another bottle
