Work Text:

You don’t know how you got here nor how much time has passed. What you do know however; is the seven figures. The seven silent figures that have been with you since coming here. Wherever here was. They each had a unique silhouette. One even had horns. You could also see their eyes glowing with a look you’ve never seen. Other than that they were black, almost mist-like with ink constantly dripping down.
They never really talked, or at least not to you. They did often seem like they were talking to each other… well more like they were bickering with each other. But no sound ever came out of their mouths. It did seem like they could understand you though.
They were… unusual to say the least. Then again everything here was unusual. To the ruined rose gardens, deserts with sand dunes that stretch far into the sky, ocean with never ending chasms, old castles with ruined stone walls, and suburban houses that have something… uncanny about them.
The eight of you never stopped at one place very long. The first time… didn’t end well because of those… things. They always chase you. Just dripping with ink. The mist things also hated them. The horned one always keeps you behind him when they appear.
But the seven of them all had one thing in common. They hated their reflection. Whether it was the waters from that pool space or the mirrors from those houses. They wouldn’t look at their reflection. They don’t even let you see your reflection. The one with the ruined headpiece and purple eyes always stops you. Covering your eyes with its mist like hands
That was another thing. They were technically just mist. Everytime they try to touch you it stays for just a few minutes(maybe minutes, time is weird here) before sinking through your skin. It bothers the lion ears one the most. Everytime it lays its head down on your lap when you all find a place to rest.
This time you're back in the suburban area. Or maybe it was a different area. But it looked identical. The same houses that seemed to stretch on for miles. The roofs were painted a muted yellow. Paved lawns like someone mowed recently even though the only living things were you, the mist beings, and those things.
“Yay more houses,” you muttered. Dead on your feet. The eight of you were moving for what seemed like days. One of the mist beings looked at you with its indigo eyes. That one could be seen as the weirdest one. Its figure was constantly switching between human legs and tentacles. Did that one even like you? It kept pulling contracts out of nowhere trying to make you sign it. Then gets seemingly mad when you don’t.
“So what house are we staying in this time?” You ask the one with burning red eyes. It kind of acted like the leader. Or tried to anyway. The yellowed eyed one never listens.
Red eyes pointed to one and stomped on ahead of the others. “Is it mad at me?” You ask the green eyed one.
The horned one just shook its head and followed the red eyed one, it didn't want to get involved.
You waited till the rest were ahead before continuing.
“Hey,” the orange eyed one turned around to look at you. “Is something wrong-ah!”
BANG
You felt something land on your head. “What?!? What was that?!?”
You couldn’t see what was on top of your head. “Get it off, get it off, get it OFF!!!!” Each breath you took deepened. Was it those things? Were you going to die?
You felt one of the mist beings finally help you. And it was… it was a cat. A black cat with bright blue eyes. “Aww,” you could still feel your heart racing but you took the cat from the blue eyed being. “It’s just a kitten.”
Out of the corner of your eye you could see the snaked hair one… face palm?
You didn’t dwell on that though as you pet the small cat and your now nine member party moved onto one of the houses. The purple eyed one tensed when it heard growling.
“Oh… no, that’s just me.” You blushed slightly as you raised one of your hands up. The other supported the cat. “I guess we should find food.”
The cat in your arms practically squealed in excitement.
Food here was an interesting experience. Especially in the houses where it was stocked to the brim. But it tasted like dust and the water was clear but it was like tar almost. You almost have to force it down your system at times. The mist beings also noticed that as well. The orange eyed one sometimes seemed like the most mad about it.
“Okay… let’s see- what are you doing?” The blue eyed being stood in front of you blocking your path. It held out its hands like it was expecting something. “What do you- ohhhh, you want the cat, don’t you?”
The being nodded excitedly as you handed it the cat. Though it probably wouldn’t stay long because the beings were mist. Still you went on to help the others with food.
……………….…………………………………………
After you all finished there was a chance to catch your breath. Sitting down next to the horned being and the blue eyed one you held the cat, “I thought… we were the only ones.”
The one with horns tensed as it glanced at the others.
“So does this mean there are others?” You asked looking up at them. There was a pause as they all looked anywhere but you. “Maybe they know a way out of this… hellscape.”
One of them, you couldn’t tell which reached out and cupped your check with the best of its ability.
If only they could speck…
Then the smell of burnt hair hit you like a brick wall. Oh no… OH NO, “they’re here.” Was all you got to say before the window behind you shattered.
“NO!” The red eyed being pulled you behind it. The cat in your arms was panicking, scratching you in an attempt to escape.
“Stop, cat!” You struggled to maintain your hold as the rest of them were fighting. The ink monsters growled and you forced yourself not to look at them and their messed up molten faces.
The cat finally freed itself from your grasp and ran for the door, “NO!” You ran after it trying to catch it before it was out of your sight.
“Wait!!!!” Something behind you hollered. The first voice you’ve heard since being here. You looked around and saw the red eyed being looking at you… IT CAN SPEAK?!?
“That cat!” You yelled as you ran out the door… into a school yard.
You looked behind you expecting to see the houses… but no. Just staring at a grey stone wall. You were alone…
You sank to your knees as you realized what you’ve done. You left them, you left your safety net. The ones who protected you from those monsters…
“Meow.”
You could hear the cat, it was here with you. You needed to find it or else you would truly be alone.
