But there's something else now, a feeling deep inside his chest, one that has made its home out of Bruce's ribcage and lined the walls with heart tissue. When it speaks, it's never louder than a whisper, but he doesn't have to strain to hear it. He never does.
No one else can die, it murmurs, with a voice that sounds gunshots and falling pearls. No one else can be allowed to die.
He makes the cowel the first night he hears it, loses himself in a daze and when he wakes, it is in his hands. It is not the final product, or even the first cowel he dons on the streets.
But protect them, the voice whispers, and now it sounds like something angry, protect them.
Bruce does not need any more convincing than that

One of the best fanfic I’ve read! Pairs really well with Sailor Song by Taylor Swift but like a slowed version. Mixed with a song I felt like I was dreaming. Good fic would read again!
