Work Text:

Benny floated just above the ground, a huge grin plastered across his face, trying to keep up with whatever Emmet was rambling about while also trying to keep up with Unikitty. It was sunny outside, not too warm, but not too cold, it was a perfect day, with just a cool breeze. An ordinary day in Bricksburg, essentially.

Benny enjoyed days like this. Out walking in a park with his friends, alongside wonderful weather and the beautiful scenery. Outside of being in space and looking out at the vast expanse of stars, this was probably his second favorite place to be. With his friends, carefree, and nothing to worry about. Until his phone buzzed from the pockets of his space suit.

He quickly excused himself from his group of friends, running off to a shaded, secluded area under a tree before looking at his phone screen to see who was calling, and his heart dropped when he saw it was Bad cop. Almost immediately, worry came flooding over him and he was unusually shaky, was he in trouble? WAS HE GOING TO JAIL!? He forced himself to relax, telling himself that it was probably just them checking up on him or something before answering the call, putting his phone up to his ear.

"Hey! Um, what's up? How you guys doing? ...Am I going to jail? Was I accused of a crime or something?"

He heard a chuckle from the other end of the line, letting out a sigh of relief as Bad cop explained that he wasn't in trouble or anything. Benny nodded along, feeling like a weight was just lifted off his shoulders.

"We just need your help on a mission, nothing too major." He could've sworn he heard Bad cop snickering at that last part of his sentence, but shrugged it off, agreeing to meet the cops at their office. Saying their goodbyes, Benny hung up and hastily put his phone back in his pocket, catching up with his friends to tell them the situation and let them know where he was going, before speeding off towards the police station. Whatever this "mission" was, he was excited, maybe they needed him to do detective work or something, or maybe it had something to do with spaceships! Whatever it might be, he was just happy to help, believing it was nothing too bad, like Bad cop had said.

"YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT???!?"

Bad cop blinked, trying to calm down Benny as he panicked in the chair across from him. Benny felt his heart pounding in his chest, the nervousness from earlier immediately coming back into play.

"Okay, okay, just- calm down, will 'ya?"  Bad cop tried, but failed to get Benny to stop panicking, to which Benny just panicked even more, now pacing around the office. "It's not as bad as it sounds. Think of it like this- you'll be helping tons of people by doing this, yeah? You can build as many space ships as you want after this." Bad cop negotiated, tapping his pen on the wooden desk, he could hear Scribble cop yelling at him through their shared headspace, but he only ignored him, focusing on calming down the clearly distressed spaceman in front of them.

"ITS THE PRESIDENT, BAD COP!" Benny snapped back, pausing his nervous pacing around the room to stare at the cop who sat looking completely neutral about the entire situation, as if this was a daily occurrence for them. "WE CANT JUST- KILL HIM! WHAT IF WE BOTH GO TO JAIL!?" He questioned, slamming his hands on the desk so loudly you could probably hear it from the other room. Bad cop sighed, allowing Scribble cop to switch in. He figured his other half would probably be able to negotiate with Benny better than he could.

"Don't worry, we'll be fine!" Scribble cop coaxed, his voice noticeably more high-pitched than Bad cop's, to which Benny looked up, finally noticing that Scribble cop was there. Maybe he could convince Scribble cop to make Bad cop snap out of it, after all, this plan was bound to get them both arrested! He couldn't have an attempted assassination on his record! Scribble cop stood up, walking to a cabinet in the corner of their office and swinging the door open, scanning the inside for a moment before his eyes landed on something, picking it out and shutting the door, handing it to Benny. A sniper rifle.

"You have good aim, right? Please tell us you have good aim."

Benny was questioning all of his life's choices, pondering what could've possibly gone wrong to end him up in this situation. He adjusted the rifle, one eye closed and the other squinting into the scope, a few sorry attempts at getting a proper aim on their target before Scribble cop sighed and put their arms around him, guiding him more towards the one they were actually trying to shoot rather than the blur of people gathered below, which Benny was somewhat grateful for, the red target on the scope aligned with the man below them he was preparing to shoot, squinting at him through the small scope of the rifle he was holding.

The target was clear in sight, standing at a podium as he gave some speech about something neither of them could catch from all the way at the top of the building they were on, which the two were silently grateful for. Despite the situation he was in, he would much rather be on top of a building, far from that thing most people called their president.

"Are you SURE this is necessary? We can't like... try and negotiate with him or something? Anything other than this..?" Benny tried one last time, looking over at Scribble cop, tilting his head, the otherwise perfect aim he had ruined by Benny's concentration shifting towards the cop beside him.

Scribble cop sighed, shaking his head in response as he gave the spaceman a pay on the back, helping im re-adjust the aim he had on their target. "We know this probably doesn't seem like the best solution... but it's for the best. This is for America, for Bricksburg. We're all better off without this guy, trust me." Scribble cop told him, leaning against the ledge of the rooftop, squinting as he got sight of the President, nodding to Benny, who was clearly stressing and uncomfortable with the whole murder thing, but he did agree that the world was definitely better off without that guy. Humming to himself, he glared through the rifle's scope and aligned the beaming red target with the dictators head, if he was gonna do this, he was getting a perfect shot.

"Okay... on the count of three." Scribble cop announced, leaning over the ledge as he shot one last glance over at Benny, who gave a barely visible nod, trying his best to not to just abandon the mission and run off in a panic, waiting for the yes from Scribble cop.

"Three."

Benny slightly adjusted his position, squinting as he slightly tilted his head, squinting at his target through the glaring sun. As panicked as he was, he couldn't help but wonder what his friends were doing, what they would think of him after they knew what he had done after this. He wondered if they would even care, considering the one they're assassinating.

"Two.."

Benny felt the weight of the entire world on his shoulders, letting out a sigh of nervousness. He looked over at his companion, and he could've sworn he somehow saw a flicker of doubt in his drawn-on eyes, but it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Benny let his gaze drift back to the President through the scope of the sniper rifle. At this point, he had begun to come to terms with his fate. He was going to jail.

"One.

BANG!

All Benny could hear was a loud ringing in his ears, and the distinct sound of people yelling. Carefully, he lowered the rifle and looked down from the rooftop at the commotion below them, his blood running cold as he realized what was going on.

He actually hit the shot. Trump was dead. He killed the president of the United States. (good riddance)

"RUN!!"

He jumped, nearly dropping the gun off of the ledge, scrambling to grab hit before snapping his head towards the cop next to him, recognizing Bad cops harsh voice.

In a blur of panic and Scribble cop screaming at him internally that this was a horrible idea, he gripped onto Benny's arm to tightly Benny was convinced he could rip it clean off if he tugged too hard. Bad cop quickly broke into a sprint, dragging Benny along behind him as he booked it towards the door leading to the stairwell. Benny ran as fast as he could behind them, abandoning the gun and following wherever Bad cop was leading them.

Eventually, they made it to the bottom floor and ran outside to Bad cops car that was parked not too far from the actual parking lot. Benny swung the passenger door open, hurrying inside the car, which Bad cop followed. After he finally got the engine running, they sped off, taking the quickest route they could remember back to Bricksburg. Holy shit. They actually did it. Him, his other half, and the annoying spaceman who immediately decided a ramble about space ships was the best way to lighten the mood.

After a while of driving in (mostly) silence, the two arrived at Emmet's apartment complex. Benny had insisted they visit Emmet after that they had just gone through, he said Emmet would probably understand. Bad cop disagreed. Scribble cop says he should give Emmet a chance.

After climbing multiple flights of stairs, they finally made it to Emmet's apartment, Benny knew Emmet usually left his door unlocked, be practically kicked the door open, about to greet him and his other friends before Bad cop quickly shushed him and looked at the rather shocked looks from everyone in the apartment. Unikitty looked genuinely disturbed. Emmet was wildly concerned. Wyldstyle didn't even know what to think. Batman was just staring at them, standing in a far corner, both because he didn't quite like hanging out with the others at Emmet's place, but also because he was a little concerned at what the two were doing there.

Confused, Benny and Bad cop looked at the glowing TV screen, immediately noticing that they were all watching the news. Why the news? You'd think they would be watching a movie, or something more lighthearted if they were hanging out. Benny listened to see what it was about, and he froze in place when he realized it was about the same events that took place not too long ago. The one HE and Bad cop caused.

Bad cop just stared, allowing Scribble cop to switch in. He wasn't dealing with this.

Wyldstyle averted her attention from the TV to look at Benny and Bad cop, who were staring at the TV, Benny's gaze flicking back and forth to what was on the screen to everyone on the (double decker) couch. She could tell from the way they burst through the door, the both of them were clearly shaken.

Scribble cop panicked, glancing at each of the masterbuilders gathered in Emmet's living room, all staring at him and Benny. He knew they all likely connected the barely legible dots and guessed that Benny and him were the reason for what was on the news. Before he got a chance to try and explain, Wyldstyle yelled out from across the room, standing up and glaring at the pair standing at the doorway.

"WHAT DID YOU TWO DO?!"
