Chapter Text
Titans Tower.
The big “T” on an island no one in Jump City ever thought useful until the unexpected heroes made their appearance. Now three of the young heroes were going around on patrol. Or in other words-
“Pizza!” Cyborg exclaimed as he redirected Robin and Beastboy to their favorite pizza location.
Beastboy immediately followed. A part of Robin wanted to argue and get them both back on track of their patrol route, the other part knew how hard they had been working and needed this short break. With Starfire and Raven out of town helping TItans East with a new case for the next few days the boys had to do a bit more than they usually would. They had been so efficient with the new patrol routes and Beastboy didn’t complain or whine once. So yeah they did deserve a little treat.
Robin pulled up a chair next to them and ordered his usual when a loud shriek from two blocks south grabbed their attention.
“Can we make those to go please?” Beastboy asked the waiter before turning into a giant bird and flying towards the distress.
“We will pick them up later” Robin informed the waiter and ran to the T-car with Cyborg.
—
Everything was going great,
Which was a sign that it was going to go horribly wrong any second now.
The dollar store Merlin villain that they were fighting was giving them more trouble than Robin had initially assumed. ‘ I hate magic’ he mumbled underneath his breath as said magic user escaped his net with yet another smoke bomb.
The magic user started engaging in a verbal fight with Beastboy. They were both waving their arms around. “If you weren’t such a baby you would know the difference between giraffes and cheetahs!” Beatsboy yelled loudly. To which the magic user responded by raising his wand and yelling “You are the baby!” And started chanting something in the magic language.
Unfortunately Beastboy was still continuing about giraffes and cheetahs to notice what was going on, or even hear what the magic user was saying. Maybe he was planning to avoid the blast or maybe he was too stubborn and was just going to change into a wolf and bite the villain when he did blast him with whatever spell.
Nevertheless, Robin thought of all of these possibilities way too late. He was already pushing Beastboy away when the blast hit him instead.
The last thing he heard was Cyborg charging after the villain and Beastboy calling out for him
—
The dust cleared pretty quickly and a little shrunken version of Robin jumped out. He jumped up and kicked dollar store Merlin on the head so hard the villain stumbled.
Beastboy thought the villain had only shrunk Robin, making him tinier than he was. Which was saying something. Robin was the shortest person in the team.
Robin then did something… that was very out of character for him. He rested his fists on his hips and gave a little “hmph”. he raised his index finger and gave the villain a talking to explaining why he should be careful with weapons like this in referance to the wand.
Okay, that part was in character but since when did Robin talk to villains like this? Also why was dollar store Merlin listening to this? Wait- was he nodding along?
“What is going on” Cyborg asked.
“Mhmm” was Beastboys reply because honestly, same.
Robin seemed like he was finally satisfied “Now that we have an understanding.” He turned to face the two heroes staring at him mouth agape “could someone explain what is going?”
Cyborg, obviously was the first to recover. “He blasted you with a spell.”
Robin scoffed and wait was that an eye roll? “Yeah I figured as much, but I don’t remember being blasted.”
Beastboy raised his hand as if he was in class “the blast was for me, you took it instead.”
Robin only hummed in response.
The villain decided to speak “I don’t understand.” He was holding his head. “The spell was supposed to turn you into a baby!”
Robin looked down at himself “nope, not a baby”
Cyborg started playing the audio of the spell that had been cast. Apparently he had recorded it. “Give it a minute, I am translating it.”
Robin turned to the villain “are you sure it wasn’t a memory spell?”
“A memory lost Beastboy wouldn’t be beneficial for me if I am being honest.” The villain said.
Beastboy crossed his arms “And a baby Beastboy would?”
The villain shrugged “You weren’t always Beastboy” which- okay true. A baby Garfield Logan or even a toddler Garfield Logan would be too terrified and would just flee the scene. Or die from fear, either or.
“Your name is Beastboy?” Robin giggled. Which was so weird to hear because- like- okay Robin did laugh and joke around but Beastboy thought he had just learned to do those things, like recently. The Robin he knew definitely had a horrible past and traumatic events haunting him (He never talked about them! Even during trauma bonding nights after tough battles!) He didn’t seem like the person to have a happy childhood…
Well that was a sad thought wasn’t it.
He looked at Robin again. For some reason his outfit shrunk with him. Or got changed into the one it was when he was this age. However old that may be. He had a cute little mask and cute little pixie boots and a green leotard for some reason…
Hold on- “Have you always been Robin?” Beastboy found himself asking.
Robin considered his question and pursed his lips into a thin line. Just like he did every other time when something was bothering him. Beastboy had also seen this look when RObin was asked about Batman or his family in general.
“...yeah” Tiny Robin said, a little unsure of himself.
The conversation was dropped when Dollar Store Merlin tried to run off which ended with Beastboy suggesting they figure out a way to contain him. To which Robin got that evil smirk thing he did whenever he was about to make a villain regret underestimating him.
“Gladly” Robin responded and tied Dollar Store Merlin up on a lamppost.
Cyborg was too busy to stop him and Beastboy thought it was funny so he didn’t.
“What you regret most, will be fixed by your past whom you have disappointed.” Cyborg read out loud.
“Yeah… that really wasn’t the spell I was going for.” Dollar store Merlin said and passed out.
Robin crooked his neck in an extremely unnatural way “aren’t spells supposed to rhyme?”
“It’s a translation,” Cyborg replied dryly. He was already calling the authorities to come pick up dollar store merlin.
Beastboy snagged the villains wand the same time Robin did. The latter probably narrowed his eyes. Probably, because Beastboy couldn’t really see them behind the mask. “What are you doing?" Robin asked.
“We might need this to turn you back,” Beastboy informed.
“Turn me back to what? How do I know you didn’t kidnap me by turning me into a- a- some sort of plant!” The tiny Robin exclaimed, clearly at a loss for words. Which Beastboy found cute and laughed.
In turn Robin frowned at him. “I am taking the wand with me.”
“Yeah because that is definitely happening.” Cyborg grabbed Robin by his cape.
“LET ME GO!”
The car ride was going to be so joyous.
