Summary
This fic owes its inspiration to Set that crown on the ground by Yeats in which rather than being accepted into the Jin sect as a son after the Sunshot campaign, Meng Yao is given a pouch of money and a letter from Jin Guangshan inviting him to take up the leadership of the Moling Meng sect, under the patronage of the Jin sect.
It’s obvious in the fic that this is just a way of getting rid of Meng Yao, without having to legitimize him. Meng Yao is insulted and accepts Lan Xichen’s offer to bring him into the Lan sect instead. But I thought, “Honestly that’s a pretty sweet deal. I would like to see what a Moling Meng sect would be like.” So this fic is an attempt at imagining what might have happened if Meng Yao had accepted.
