“The Xianren were insects feeding upon detritus from the world above, but Baoyu is no different. In his youth, he secluded himself within Yihongyuan out of fear, like a caterpillar hoping to one day take wing far from the vast gardens. That lofty dream never came to pass - once he stepped out of his self-imposed cocoon, he realized he was no better than another disgusting centipede crawling on its belly. Daguanyuan, despite its ornate buildings and beautiful courtyards, was a festering jar of jincan; it was then he intended to become the most insidious poison of all.”
