The Urge to do More

Summary:

Just my toughts after finishing Undertale pacifist.
...
And on the tempation to do more.

Work Text:

It is... curious.

You had spent long times watching others playing it, falling in love with the characters, with the story, saying you'd give them their happy ending and then leave them be, feeling fullfield.

But now,

despite the fact that you have done it, despite the fact you enjoyed it, despite the fact that you are happy with the ending,

...

...

...

...

You can't help but want MORE.

You want to go back and find more secrets, more conversations, more actions, more everything.

...

...

...

And you despise it, you won't do it, but part of you is SO tempteted to do the Genocide Run.

Not because you want to see them suffer.

Not even because you want more.

But because, like everyone else out there, you are at your core a curious being, and you can't help but ponder what would happen?, what would you find?, would you be able to do it?

You had never really understood before, just what the big appeal was. Not to be confused, you absolutely tough the game was amazing, but why would they knowingly make characters suffer just out of curiosity?

That... is partilly a lie.

Tough you did not understand it for Undertale, because you had not yet played, you did understand the desire to know more.

You yourself had pointed that out to your friend.

Both of you liked videogames, tough the part that you felt said passion to varied:

To him, it was the mechanics of the games, how they worked, that made them fun.

To you, you fell in love with the lore, with the characters, with the story, and it was them that made the games enjoyable.

Of course, both of you enjoyed aspects of the other, a good story is nothing without good mechanics, and good mechanics are always more fun when there is a story around.

But you understand wanting to know more parts of the story, especially in a game where your choices matter so much, because you feel like that to almost all stories.

It is why, even tough you want them to have a happy ending, that you feel this urge, this need, to do Genocide Run just to see what would happen when YOU were the one doing it.

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

But you won't do it.

Because before being a game, those characters, those people, belonged in a story.

You have seen their suffering at that path.

You have seen their desperation.

You have seen their hurt.

And so, ...

even tough your SOUL aches for more ...

you will let them have their happy ending.

Because they deserve it.

You haven't fought the Secret Bosses in Deltarune yet tough...
