Work Text:

Kirishima gnawed at the end of his pen as he stared up at the clock; still half an hour until he could leave school. Getting driven to and from school was pretty convenient, unless you're working on someone else's time.

Still, it gave Kirishima time to start today's homework. So far, his name was down on the paper, but not much else. Knowing that he'd have to stop soon enough didn't really make working sound all that tempting, and his phone was on too low a battery to piss about on games. Were there any more ways to procrastinate here? If only Sero or Kaminari were there - it would be pretty easy to distract himself; maybe he should have dragged them there and then offered them a lift home or something. Kirishima was about to make a paper aeroplane out of the paper in front of him when he heard music coming from the room next door. Or at least he thought it was music; Kirishima craned his head to hear it better.

It was someone singing, a guy, and it didn’t sound like there was any music on in the background - this was a live performance that Kirishima was getting. And by the sounds of it, the voice didn’t need music anyway. He felt cheesy even thinking it, but the voice was beautiful; comparable to an angel, even. The voice was singing words Kirishima couldn't understand but the melody was calming and relaxing enough for Kirishima's mouth to relax into a small smile before he could even register he was doing it. He rested his arms on the table in front of him, letting his head sink into them and letting the melodic voice wash over him.

-
"Huh?" Kirishima woke up to his phone violently vibrating against his arm making him jump.

"Yeah? Oh, crap, sorry, I just have dozed off, I'll be there right away!" He shoved his phone into his pocket, gathered his bags and hurried out of the classroom. He glanced back towards the classroom next to his where the noise had come from, but all lights seemed to be off and not a sound to be heard. He sighed, and carried on towards the car.

-
"It was crazy dude, like, you know how much trouble I have sleeping, right, and after a few bars, bam! I was gone!" Kirishima dragged a few fries along is plate, gathering as much salt as he could before shoving them into his mouth.

Midoriya chuckled. "Must be nice to have someone sing you your own personal lullaby, right?" He took a sip from his strawberry milk and rested a chin against his hand. "I wonder if Iida can sing..."

"Still no progress there, dude?" Midoriya and Iida together wasn’t something Kirishima had ever considered before the shorter of the two admitted his feelings to Kirishima and Todoroki one day. It was actually kind of cute, and Kirishima wanted to see it happen; he saw the way Midoriya brightened up every time Iida was in the room - it was obvious he was smitten.

Midoriya gave him a small smile. "He's so... Oblivious. I mean, if he hasn't noticed by now then he probably doesn't think of me that way, and I don't want to say anything up front..." He sighed.

Kirishima reached over the table and patted him on the shoulder. "It's okay, maybe he just needs to get to know you better before he could get feelings, y'know, I've never seen him actually date anyone before."

"Doesn't he write romance manga?" Todoroki interjected. "I would have expected him to have an eye for that kind of thing."

Midoriya's shoulders slumped. "You're right, he should have noticed by now. Then again... The romance in his manga is a little weird... It doesn't feel like it comes from experience at all."

"Maybe he doesn't actually know all that much about it! Y'know, if you read enough of one genre you could probably write it okay, right?" Kirishima nibbled on a fish finger.

"I guess. It's kind of hard to read him when it comes to things manga related," Midoriya smiled. "Anyway, wasn't this supposed to be about you and your mystery singer?"

"Oh yeah!" Kirishima chewed thoughtfully on a fry. "I might stay behind tonight again to try to uncover the truth. But if you guys hear of any amazing singer - or hear one! -, Let me know. My life depends on it!"

Todoroki chuckled. "We'll be sure to keep you updated. Good luck finding them."

Kirishima made plans to stay that evening on the hopes of finding out who his mystery singer was. Who knew what he was going to say when he found out; Kirishima just wanted to listen to that beautiful voice again and again, and maybe it could help him get a few hours nap in.

He tapped his pen against the desk as he stared towards the wall of the classroom next door. What if mystery singer wasn't in today? What if he only sung once a week? Or whenever he felt like it, because it didn't sound like anyone else or some extra class was in there. Kirishima's shoulders slumped. Maybe his was a waste of time, but he just wanted to hear it again. Surely the person would sing again, eventually, and Kirishima could listen to that angelic voice before it whisked him off to sleep. He tapped his pen on the end of the desk, deep in thought.

The singing started slowly, and almost too low to hear at first. Kirishima stood up and nearly upended his desk as he pushed his way out of the classroom towards the room next door. He pressed his face against the glass of the door as he tried to see inside, but the angle only let him see half of the empty classroom. Disappointed, Kirishima took a deep breath and placed his hand on the handle of the door. Would it be rude to barge in? Probably. But maybe if he sat there quietly, the singer wouldn't mind too much. He quietly pushed the handle down, only to meet with resistance. The door seemed to be locked, and Kirishima's disappointment only grew further. He could have found out who the mystery singer was, but fate did not seem to be on his side. He yawned as he shuffled back into his own classroom, and let the melody wash over him. It sounded as lovely as ever, and Kirishima felt like he was floating just listening to it.
Once he returned to his desk he folded his hands under his chin and let himself drift off. With any luck he'd wake up just in time to catch mystery singer leaving.

Kirishima felt extremely well rested the next day. He'd slept too long to achieve his goal of uncovering the singer, but he actually had a decent amount of hours of sleep under his belt from the last twenty four hours. Basketball was less tiring than usual, even with Bakugou pelting everyone with the ball like it was a game of dodgeball.

"Man, that was intense!" Kirishima wiped the sweat off his brow. "We haven't had a session like that for a while, haha!"

"That was really something," Kaminari took a sip of water. "I guess we need to be on top form for when we start having real matches again."

"Ha, yeah, about that..." Kirishima scratched his head. "I may need to, uh. Miss a few sessions. Not many! But my grades are kind of slipping and I can't let them get bad enough to kick me off the team, y'know?"

Kirishima jumped as a ball slammed into the wall just above his head.

"What did you say, fuckmunch?" Bakugou approached, brows furrowed and grimacing. "This team needs all the help it can get if we're gonna be the best, you're not going to screw us by getting kicked the fuck off, even if it means I have to pummel the whole fucking curriculum into your head!"

Kirishima was taken aback. "Well. Sure, I guess! I could do with some extra help, I really don't want to leave either haha! Thanks a lot, Bakugou!"

Bakugou stormed off, muttering something under his breath and grabbing another ball to dribble angrily.

"That was weird," Kaminari muttered. "I'd ask if he can tutor me to since I'm pretty sure I'm doing worse than you but there's no way I'm spending any extra time with that guy. Good luck," he slapped Kirishima on the back. "I'm gonna go shower, see you later."

"Sure, pal!" Kirishima waved him off as he took a sip of water and watched the first years run as far out of Bakugou's path as they could.

Today was going to be a good day, he could feel it. As he got cleaned up and changed, Kirishima let his mind wander back on to the singer. Chances are, if they were there the last two days in a row, they could definitely be there today, right? He felt butterflies just thinking about it. It was probably weird to be that invested in something like this, but it was quickly turning into the highlight of Kirishima's day; nothing so far had been able to send him to sleep as easily as the singer's voice, and it was the loveliest voice he had heard before he did fall asleep.

He was gonna do it; if the singer was there, this time he would find out who it was, and when they sang, and he would get a little more sleep out of it. Kirishima practically jumped for joy when the singing started earlier than usual; his class had barely left the room, and he hadn't even time to fully pack away and move to the next room. Well, if the singer was there first, it didn't mean that Kirishima couldn't catch him on his way out. He quietly walked towards to other room. He still couldn't see anything inside, and the handle still wasn't budging. He sighed, but smiled; at least the voice was back again. He felt giddy at the thought of maybe being able to meet them, and sat himself down in the hallway across from the door. He set a half an hour alarm on his phone, just in case, and smiled to himself as felt himself drifting off.

-

"Guys. I don't know what to do, I've just been so unlucky trying to find this guy!"

Midoriya gave him a sympathetic look. "It's only been something like a week, I'm sure you have plenty of time to find out who it is. Don't give up yet!"

"I guess... It’s just, music's never made me feel this good before, y'know? I feel all fluttery and happy, and then I actually get some decent sleep, like, it's a miracle!" He gestured wildly, earning a chuckle from Midoriya.

"You know, you shouldn't get your hopes up too high," Todoroki said. "I don't want to put a downer on things, but aren't you building this guy up a little much? He might not be too 'angelic' apart from his voice. I... Don't think you should let yourself get in too deep." He balled up the debris from his sandwiches in front of him and hefted one strap of his bag over his shoulder. "I have to leave early to help Momo out in drama, but I'll see you guys on sunday, okay?"

"Ah!" Kirishima perked up. "I can't hang then, sorry. Bakugou promised he'd tutor me - well, it was more of a threat really but y'know, every little helps!"

Midoriya raised an eyebrow. "Bakugou? As in... Katsuki?"

"Yeah! He threatened to tutor me when he was helping out the Basketball club!"

Midoriya shook his head with a bemused expression. "That's hard to imagine, but hopefully something good comes out of it. I'll see you later, Shouto!"

Todoroki waved them bye and left.

Leaning forwards, Midoriya began tracing circles in the table. "He does have a point, you know. Don't get too excited about this singing guy, just in case... A nice voice doesn't always mean a nice person."

Kirishima nodded frantically. "I know that! I just need to know who it is, that's all. Don't worry about me - I don't get disappointed that easily!" He grinned.

-

Kirishima never thought that he'd be quite so disappointed with a Sunday, yet here he was. He was looking forwards to his study date with Bakugou at least - the guy wasn't exactly the friendliest, but it would be a nice change of pace. And maybe a nice distraction, too. The idea of not being able to hear the angelic voice was disappointing, but that only meant it would be much sweeter when he did hear it again.

He packed a bag, throwing in snacks along with his DS, because who knew, maybe Bakugou did have a fun side.

Kirishima decided to walk to Bakugou's house. He had gps on his phone in case he got lost, and the weather was lovely. Why not enjoy it while he had the chance?

The walk lead him to a part of town he'd never seen before, but it was surprisingly nice. The houses weren't too big, but there was a lot of green scenery around - it was oddly calming. Ironic, really.

Kirishima double checked the address on his phone before tentatively knocking. Well, here was his chance to see Bakugou in his natural environment. This could be interesting.

After a moment or two he heard a click, and the door was yanked open. Bakugou grunted at him from the open door and gestured inside. Grinning, Kirishima put a foot forwards and entered. The house actually felt quite spacious once he was inside, and the walls were warm, pale colours that felt much more homely than expected. Bakugou lead him upstairs into what Kirishima assumed was his room. A few rock posters were dotted around the room, along with a red guitar in the corner next to some burned debris that Kirishima didn't want to ask about. The bed was neatly made, and the rest of the room wasn't too messy either.

"Sit down," Bakugou muttered. "You want a drink or something?" He scratched behind his ear, with an expression as if he was the one out of place here.

"Sure! Thank you!" Kirishima set his bag down and settled himself cross legged on Bakugou's bed. "Anything's good, thanks!"

Bakugou shoved his hands in his pockets and sauntered out of the room. He wasn't as hostile when he was on his own... that definitely made studying much more promising. Kirishima had to wonder if there was anyone Bakugou wasn't hostile to in school; did he actually have any friends there? He knew from Midoriya that they used to be friends, but you'd never be able to tell now. He only really saw Bakugou in Basketball and in Maths, where he acted pretty much the same and everyone was too scared to approach him. Maybe Kirishima would be able to find out before the end of the year if these study groups carried on. Maybe Bakugou would open up in a more relaxed atmosphere like this, and Kirishima could find out why exactly he was so angry all the time. Maybe he could do with listening to the mystery singer.

"Oi. Don't spill." Bakugou returned while Kirishima was still musing, placing a glass of what looked to be coke or Pepsi on the side table next to Kirishima's seat on the bed.

"I'll be carefull!" Kirishima pulled his bag up onto the bed and laid out his textbook and exercise book in front of him. "So what are we starting with?"

Bakugou tapped his pencil once on his notebook. "What are you worst at?"

"Hmm..." Kirishima flipped through his book until he got to their most recent assignment. "Here!"

Kirishima tossed the book over to Bakugou who caught it with one hand. He scoffed after reading it and threw it back. "We've it a long day ahead of us."

Kirishima grinned.

-

Kirishima could tell when Bakugou was getting irritated with his wrong answers from the small huffs he would let out every now and then. It was almost endearing to see the blond like this. Bakugou wasn't half bad at explaining things though; he used as few words as possible to get his point across, and Kirishima found that helped way more than the lessons at school. It didn't feel like long until they had a break, but they'd been working for three hours already - that was three hours more than Kirishima usually spent on his math homework.

"I'm getting fuckin' tired of this, we're having a break," Bakugou grumbled. "I'm getting some chips."

"Sounds good!" Kirishima grinned. He flicked his book shut and let himself fall backwards on the bed. He assumed if Bakugou had a problem with it, he would let Kirishima know very loudly but Bakugou just rolled his eyes.

Kirishima opened his phone as he waited for Bakugou's return. One more day until school again... But one more day before Kirishima could possibly discover the mystery singer. He needed a plan to catch them this time. Maybe he could do with some help.

"Catch, fuckweed." Kirishima narrowly avoided being hit by the bag of chips in front of his face.

"Thanks, dude!" He ripped the packet open, shoving a few chips in his mouth. Not bad. "Say, Bakugou," he began. Kirishima bit he edge of another chip before he thought about whether he should ask Bakugou of all people. "Do you know anyone who sings? Like really well, a guy who sings that isn't in the music club?"

Bakugou stopped chewing his own chips. "What? Why? What the fuck?"

"It's nothing," Kirishima looked down into his bag of chips. "I just. I've been hearing some guy singing around school, near my home room, and I just... He sounds good. Like, really really good and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it! It's the sort of voice that - I actually fell asleep, and you know how hard that is for me - it's kind of weird, but. I want to find this guy and just... Have him sing to me." Bakugou's face was stiff, his brow furrowed. Had he said something wrong? "Uh. I guess that sounds kind of weird, huh?" Kirishima scratched his neck sheepishly.

"That - that’s weird as fuck, you're - fuck off. Why would I know anyone that can sing like that? Assmunch, don't ask me such fucking weird questions, shit." His face was bright red, and Kirishima wondered if he'd really managed to make Bakugou that angry. Or maybe... Uncomfortable? In hindsight, his whole little speech sounded like... Maybe he batted for the other team. Which wasn't entirely untrue, but not something he'd discussed with Bakugou before.

"You know what, dude, never mind, forget about. It's silly - I was just wondering who randomly songs like that on their own, heh. It doesn't matter. So, uh, math, huh? What else do we have to cover?"

Bakugou scowled, crumpling the bag of chips in his hand and closing his book. "We're done studying."

"Oh," Kirishima said. "Okay." He put up a smile to mask his disappointment. "Well, thanks for all of this, you've really helped me out a whole lot. If there's anything I can do for you in return, y'know, just let me know!" Well done for fucking up that chance, Kirishima. He pulled his books back towards his bag and began packing away. He hoped Basketball practice wouldn't be too awkward when they next saw each other - he still wasn't completely sure why Bakugou was so mad, but hopefully he wasn't the type to hold a grudge. Ha.

"I guess I'll get going then. See you later!"

Bakugou followed him wordlessly down the stairs. The bag of chips were still crumpled up in his hand, but Kirishima chose not to comment on it. He gave a small wave as he stepped out of the door, and Bakugou locked up behind him. Well, he fucked that up big time. It was a confusing reaction to say the least, but it was obvious it wasn't positive. Maybe he could find a way to apologize without bringing it up?

Kirishima mused to himself while he walked home, but he had no ideas yet. Well, his first priority tomorrow would be to catch the singer anyway; Basketball wasn't even until Tuesday, meaning that he could deal with Bakugou then. Maybe he could find an excuse to leave class early and just wait outside the next room - but he'd feel kind of bad about that, and the rest of the class would probably see him waiting. He'd just have to be fast then; if he could subtly pack away before the bell and rush out, maybe he'd have more of a chance. Kirishima nodded to himself; that was probably his best bet. He spent the rest of the night getting homework out of the way with, so he could justify waiting for the singer.

-

Ten more minutes. Kirishima drummed his foot nervously. Maybe this wasn't the best of ideas; Bakugou had reacted weirdly, and he wasn't even involved; how much weirder would it seem to the singer themselves? Would they considering him waiting for them as… kind of stalkery? Too much time and effort had been invested for Kirishima to give up now though; he had to know who the beautiful singer was, even if he would be branded as weird afterwards.

He all but jumped from his seat when the the class was dismissed. He shoved his bag over his shoulder and flew out of the door. Here it was.

He dashed into the room next door, it was empty thank god - it would be way embarrassing to enter when a whole class was in there and hadn't been dismissed. He made his way to the back, where he wouldn't be be visible from the door in case he scared the singer off. Ten minutes passed to no avail, but the wait didn't mean much to Kirishima.

His head shot up as the door handle moved. Kirishima held his breath.

"What the fuck," Came Bakugou's voice.

Kirishima's breath escaped in a gasp. "Bakugou?"

The blond stood there for a second, before stepping back outside the room.
"Wait! Waiiiiittttt!" Kirishima leapt up, nearly tripping over the desk in front of him as he scrambled to the door. He managed to reach him before Bakugou was too far away, earning a snarl from the other boy.

"Get the fuck off me, asscrab!" He slapped Kirishima's hand away vehemently.

"Please! Just tell me!" Kirishima stepped towards him. "Is it you? Are you the singer? Is that why you were acting so weird?"

Bakugou looked away. His ears burned bright red. "I wasn't acting weird, you shitweed! I don't know what the fuck you're talking about, fuck off."

Kirishima sighed and glanced back towards the classroom. "I don't see or hear anyone else... I mean, I know it wasn't every day, but... There's nothing wrong with it you know, if you can sing! In fact, it's great! Oh, and I promise I won't tell anyone, don't you worry."

Bakugou looked like he was about to say something, before turning around and walking away.

"Gah!" Kirishima ran a few steps to catch up with him. He reached an arm out to grab Bakugou's shoulder before snatching it away; physical contact probably wasn't a good idea right now. "I think it's great. Really. It's amazing actually. I'd like to listen to it more, nothing's helped me get to sleep like that for ages! Even just hearing a recording would be good I guess, but you can't just stop now! It sounds great!" He was aware the he was on the verge of rambling, but he couldn't quite get himself to care. He needed to hear his voice again.

"What kind of sad fuck can't get to sleep without hearing singing?" Bakugou sneered.

"Hey, everyone has their own problems," Kirishima shrugged. "I'm serious though. It's so cool!"

Bakugou only grunted. He pulled his bag tighter over his shoulder before looking behind them. "So maybe it was me. You're not saying anything to anyone, and you're not hearing it again. End fucking of."

Kirishima had to stop himself from grinning. "That's great! I mean, not that you won't sing, that disappointing and I hope that you can change your mind but! Wow! I never would have thought you could sing so well, you have such a great voice! I never would have took you as the type to sing!"

Bakugou pulled a face. "I only sing because it supposedly 'helps me release my anger', stop acting like it’s this big thing. Ugh. You're fucking weird, it's just fucking singing. Fuck."

"Okay, okay, I'll stop!" Kirishima laughed. "It's a cool idea to get your anger out that way though, especially if it stops you from hitting me so much in basketball, hahaha!"

Bakugou snorted. "You can fuck off now, I'm going home. I don't want you yapping at me the rest of the way there."

"Yeah yeah! I guess I should probably go too, we've been here for a while now. I'll see you in Basketball tomorrow!" He waved cheerily before taking the fastest route to the car park. That went surprising well - he was still very disappointed at the idea of not hearing Bakugou's singing again, but it felt great to know the singer's identity. Hopefully he wouldn't stop singing, or find somewhere else. Kirishima's singing induced naps helped a lot, and finishing homework early to hear the signing was darn good motivation.

The rest of the night was spent thinking about the voice, and trying not to imagine it coming from Bakugou's mouth. It wasn't the easiest of tasks, and it made Kirishima want to see it first hand all the more. Basketball was just as violent as ever, but as Bakugou asked Kirishima didn't mention the singing, and neither did he. Kirishima tried approaching him after practice but the other boy was already gone.

He kept an eye out after school for Bakugou's voice coming from the classroom next door, but he was left disappointed. Was Bakugou going to stop now that Kirishima knew? Surely that wasn't a great reason if it was helping Bakugou get his anger out - then again, Kirishima was unclear on whether or not it was working, considering Bakugou's same as always behavior. He checked a few more rooms around school that Bakugou could be in; Kirishima know that he was in some of Midoriya's classes for sure but those classrooms were still empty. Dejected, Kirishima walked towards the car park. It would be so convenient to have Bakugou's number right now. Not that it was likely that he'd pick up, but maybe he'd have a slightly better chance of finding and hearing him.

Kirishima expected to have no chance of finding Bakugou on the Wednesday since they shared no classes, but he caught him leaving the canteen just after lunch. He tried to be a subtle as possible in asking Bakugou to sing for him but he was brushed off and lost Bakugou in the crowd of students. Kirishima used Thursday's Basketball practice to insist that they 'hang' later, hoping be that Bakugou would get the hint. His only response was a curt 'fuck off' and a ball to the knee. Rude.

Bakugou was absent again from the accompanying classroom that evening, and Kirishima gave up hunting. If he couldn't find him the last two nights then he doubted Bakugo would be here either. There had to be some way to persuade him to sing again, but the question was how? He couldn't ask anyone else for help, especially not Midoriya; Bakugou would probably skin him alive. Maybe if he just started singing something really catchy, Bakugou might just join in. Then again, it was some foreign sounding stuff that he heard being sung before; that was probably quite different to singing something new, and he'd never seen Bakugou join in with any other singing before anyway.

Friday felt like Kirishima's last chance (despite the fact that the school year was far from over) but after Monday's revelation he just wanted some more progress already. He didn't know if Bakugou was avoiding him or if he was always this hard to find - Kirishima didn't usually have too many reasons to seek him out, except to tell him that basketball practice was cancelled or that the time had changed. He contemplated asking Midoriya or Kaminari if they knew where he was, but chances were that Bakugou would get pissy if he heard Kirishima was looking for him.

Kirishima threw his things haphazardly in his bag after home room finished, and pulled himself up. He stretched before strolling out of the room. To his confusion he was immediately pulled to the side by his collar. Bakugou stood in front of him, eyes looking past him at the corridor ahead. "Same as last week," he mumbled.

"Huh?" Kirishima adjusted his shirt and blinked. "Whatcha mean?"

"Studying. Whatever. If you're still struggling with shitty math or some crap, I don't know. Last week wasn’t too shit."

It took Kirishima a few seconds before he let out a soft 'oh'. "You're inviting me over to study again! Thanks pal, I appreciate it! And I could definitely do with a few more lessons, haha!" He grinned, and Bakugou gave him an agitated look before striding off. Bakugou certainly was an odd one, but that's what made him so entertaining to be around. He was rude and unpredictable, but deep deep down Kirishima knew his intentions were honest. He grinned to himself before walking to the car park.

Saturday night was spent with a certain excitement for the next day. It may only be studying, but Bakugou was not avoiding him, and Kirishima could hope to maybe get a recording at least of his voice. It probably wasn't that unlikely, since it still sounded a little creepy, but he could only hope. Not that he would have slept well anyway last night - weekends were the hardest, unless he had a super busy day, so at least his mind was occupied with something interesting for the night. He bought a few snacks before walking in the direction of Bakugou's house - it was the least he could do in return. It would be nice to find something more substantial to thank him with, but trying to guess when it came to Bakugou wasn't always the best idea.

Halfway there the heavens opened and rain came pouring down. It wasn't enough to dampen Kirishima's spirit, but it was enough to make him speed up almost to the point of running. He must have looked a complete state when he arrived - Bakugou recoiled at the sight of him, before beckoning Kirishima in and finding him a towel to dry off with.

One slightly less damp head of hair and a hot drink each later, they were back in Bakugou's room, Kirishima in last week's place in the bed and Bakugou sat at his desk. The room was just as clean as Kirishima remembered it, but slightly dimmer as the grey clouds obscured the sun outside.

"Really feels like a Sunday, doesn't it! Miserable weather, cup of tea, and just chilling. Haha!"

Bakugou threw him a look. "We're not 'just chilling, we're studying. Concentrate, fucktruck."

"Yeah yeah," Kirishima waved him off. "Hey! Here's an idea-"

"No," Bakugou cut him off.

"How's about if I get this next page right.... You sing for me! I think I sounds like a great plan!" Kirishima dodged the crumpled paper ball flying at him and sent it back at half force.

"Definitely no," Bakugou grumbled. "I'm not fucking singing, fuck off."

Kirishima let out an over dramatic sigh. "But why?" He didn't want to push Bakugou too hard, but after spending all of last night trying to remember his voice, he really wanted to hear it again. He covered up a yawn, and Bakugou raised an eyebrow.

"You're already fucking tired, didn't you say that you fucking fall asleep at my singing, you rude fuck?"

"Ah, I guess." Kirishima sighed. "Man, I just want to hear it again. You have no idea how cool it is!"

Bakugou ducked his head and muttered something unintelligible.

"What's that?"

"It's fucking embarrassing," Bakugou growled. His cheeks were slowly turning pink. "Fuck off."

Kirishima slapped his book shut. "But it's great! There's no need to be embarrassed, you're doing something to help yourself and,/i> you're really good at it! That's admirable!"

"You're so fucking weird, shitstick. It's not admirable it's just... Singing. Letting some shitty sound out, I don't know. Don't make it sound like some big thing."

"If it's not some big thing then why are you so embarrassed?" Kirishima smiled. Bakugou gave him a disgusted look before turnng his head again.

"The conversation is over. Open your fucking book already and do the next question. I'm not wasting more time helping you if you're going to piss about and not do the work."

"Ah, fair enough," Kirishima shrugged. There was more room for discussion later, anyway. Bakugou had a point; he did invite him over to study, not socialise, although he could do with working in doing both at the same time. Kirishima opened up his book and nibbled on the end of his pencil as he thought through the question.

-

The weather only got worse as the day progressed. Kirishima didn't pay too much attention to it until a violent clap of thunder made him jump.
"Ah, crap. That doesn't look too good."

Bakugou turned to the window. The sky outside lit up white before the clouds returned to a dark gray.
"Fucking great. Are you walking home again?"

Kirishima rested his cheek on his hand. "I was supposed to be, but the weather looks pretty gross, I think my homework will get ruined if I do. I guess I should probably call for a ride, huh?" He pulled out his phone and scrolled down to his parents’ number. "Oh. Uh. Shit. There's no signal, I guess the weather must be messing with it or something." He looked at the sky outside and frowned.

"Ugh. Whatever, I guess you can stay until the weather calms down or you get signal or something."

"Really? You're a real pal, Bakugou!" Kirishima grinned and tapped his pen on his book. "Does that mean we're studying until the weather calms down?"

Bakugou rolled his eyes. "This is why you're doing shit, pissweed. But I guess we can have a break for a bit. You play Call of Duty?"

Kirishima shoved his work book off the bed. "I'm more of a Halo guy, but CoD works. Bring it on!"

Bakugou was more enthusiastic than Kirishima had seen in a while; it looked like Bakugou was the type to really come into his own in a competitive setting. The room got a little loud at times with the two trash talking each other and Bakugou's curses whenever he killed or got a kill. Kirishima heard a woman's voice - presumably Bakugou's mum - shouting up to keep the noise down, and Bakugou complied albeit with some grumbling.

It was one of the most fun Sundays Kirishima could remember in months; maybe it would be possible to persuade Bakugou to do this every weekend, but he didn't want to impose. It was still kind of hard to tell how much Bakugou enjoyed his company, but the fact that he even offered to tutor him at all was promising. Maybe Kirishima should invite him to study at his soon, instead.
It was close to 8pm when the two stopped, but the weather was as grey as ever. The thunder was drowned out while they were playing but it sounded even louder than before. Kirishima's phone still had no service which was a little uncomfortable.

The two stared at the window for a moment. Kirishima felt conflicted; he really, really didn't want to leave when this weather was raging, but he didn't want to be rude and overstay his welcome. Just as he was about to ask Bakugou what next, the blonde stood up and pulled out his phone. “One sec," he muttered before exiting the room.

Kirishima fiddled with his own phone, opening up an offline game while he waited. Bakugou returned after a few moments and dropped himself back on the floor.
"You can stay if you want, it's fucking atrocious out there. I have a shitty old sleeping bag if you want."

"Huh?" Kirishima turned to him, eyes wide. "You're inviting me to stay? That's so great buddy, but I don't want to impose on you anymore than I have, I can totally leave, you've already helps me so man today man, I-"

"Shut up already," Bakugou flicked him. "It's fine. I'm not that much of a dick you know. I don't care or whatever, just. Chill out."

Bakugou just told him to chill out, Of all people! Kirishima laughed. "Thanks man, you're real reliable you know that? I owe you one. I owe you more than one actually, you've already helped me study and now you're letting me stay! You're smart and generous - oh, and not forgetting talented at singing! Not that I'll tell-"

"Oh my god, shut fuck up!" Bakugou turned away but Kirishima could see the tips of his ears turning red again. "It's no big fucking deal, stop acting like... I don't know, just. Stop." He crossed his arms and furrowed his brows. On anyone else it might just look petulant, but on Bakugou it was pretty darn cute.

"Haha, fine! You're just being a good friend, right? That's all it is!" Kirishima grinned.

Bakugou huffed. "Whatever." That was as good as agreeing in Kirishima's book. "Sleeping bag's somewhere under the bed, I'll find you something to wear. You're lucky we're a similar size," he mumbled.

Kirishima was almost all the way under the bed before he found the sleeping bag, and emerged to see a bemused Bakugou shaking his head at him. He unrolled it alongside the bed and pulled his bag down next to it.

"Catch." Bakugou threw him a wad of clothes and Kirishima snatched them out of the air. "You remember where the bathroom is, right?"

"Sure do! See you in a minute!" Kirishima locked the bathroom door behind him and removed his clothes. He pulled on the slightly worn band tshirt Bakugou gave him and the slightly snug joggers. They felt super soft, and Kirishima resisted the urge to rub his legs together and enjoy the feeling of them. The clothes smelled like Bakugou which shouldn't have been unexpected. It was crazy to think that he was not only staying at Bakugou's house but even wearing his clothes - he wondered how many people were close enough to Bakugou to say that, because he rarely ever saw anyone else with him. He'd enjoy the experience, Kirishima decided. He'd find a way to make up for all of the friends Bakugou didn't have, too - it was nice to see the boy smile once in a while, and encouraging that could only be a good thing, right?

He gathered up his discarded clothes before shuffling back to Bakugou's room.

The blond looked up at him before pushing some DVDs towards him. "Want to watch something, or whatever?"

"Sure!" Kirishima took the DVDs, flipping through them. "Hmm, some nice choices! I didn't realise you had some many superhero DVDs, though!"

"You want something else?" Kirishima bit his lip at how cute Bakugou's dejected face was.

"Nope, this is great! How about Iron Man? Can't go wrong with that, right?"

Bakugou nodded and set the DVD up. The two settled on the bed with the snacks that Kirishima bought and got comfortable. Bakugou spent most of the film criticising Iron Man's actions and explaining what he would do instead, and what powers would be better suited to saving the world with. His excitement was infectious and Kirishima found himself joining in - obviously a tankier, sturdier hero that could withstand anything would be better, which is where their opinions differed. Their debate went on until long after the film finished, and before they knew it Bakugou was yawning after every other sentence.

"A bit past your bed time, pal?" That earned Kirishima a punch to the arm and the two grappled before Bakugou rolled him off the bed and into his sleeping bag.

"And stay down there," Bakugou growled playfully. "I'm turning the light off now, craplord. You got everything you need?"

"Sure!" Kirishima threw a thumbs up that he hoped Bakugou could see over the bed. The light was turned off and he heard Bakugou clambering into bed. He waited a few minutes before pulling out his phone, making sure the sound and brightness was down, and pulling a game up.

"What are you doing?" Bakugou mumbled.

"Oh, sorry! I'll hide the light, sorry-"

"I don't care about the fucking light," Bakugou sighed. "Did you not want to sleep yet?"

"No, this is fine!" Kirishima put his phone down and readjusted himself so he was facing the ceiling. "It just. Takes me quite a while to sleep, so I usually play games or something for a while. I'll try not to keep you up or anything!" He heard Bakugou shift.

"That sleeping problem you were talking about," Bakugou started. "You have trouble getting to sleep?"

"I have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep, yeah. it's fine though! I don't need a lot of sleep to function!" He hoped Bakugou could hear his grin through his voice.

Bakugou huffed. "That's probably not good for you."

"Well, technically, yeah. But it's not a problem as long as I can deal with it! I have some stuff at home that helps me sleep sometimes, but it's really not a big deal." It was kind of surprising that Bakugou was taking an interest. Or maybe it shouldn’t have been, considering he'd been fairly receptive and reliable today, but it just came as a surprise. He expected more of a "shut the fuck up and sleep", but maybe he was just underestimating the boy.

"Close your eyes," Bakugou ordered.

"Um, okay. That doesn't usually help though..."

"Just do it," Bakugou snapped and Kirishima complied. There was the classic Bakugou surfacing.

He lay like that for a moment or two, wondering if Bakugou was going to give him any more orders or just expected him to fall asleep like that. It was a nice idea, really, but Kirishima knew his own sleep habits.

He was pulled out of his thought before a low humming that turned into quiet singing after a few seconds. Kirishima sharply inhaled as he realised Bakugou was actually singing for him. It sounded even nicer up close, and the softness at which Bakugou singing made Kirishima's heart melt. It was hypnotising.

Before Kirishima even knew it, it was morning and a gentle light filtered through the window. He shielded his eyes and rolled over to face the underside of a bed. He blinked for a second, before remembering where he was, and sat up to see if Bakugou was still there. The blond tufts of hair just about sticking up underneath the covers implied that he was, and Kirishima sat there staring for a moment. He sung for him. Last night Bakugou actual sung for him, with no prompting, all to help Kirishima sleep.

Kirishima gripped his chest. "Bro."

Bakugou made a sleepy noise shifted under his quilt.

Kirishima's phone read 7:16am, which wasn't too bad. He wondered what time Bakugou usually woke for school and - shit. He didn't have any of his school stuff or his uniform and his parents would be wondering where the heck he was right now.

He gathered yesterday’s clothes as quietly as he could and tiptoed around the bed to the door.

“...Nnngh… wha’ time is it?” Bakugou rolled over.

“Ah! I didn’t wake you, did I?” Kirishima whispered.

“No, but answer the question, ass...face.” Bakugou pulled the covers tighter around himself and sat up. His face was scrunched up and the left side of his hair was stuck flat to his face. Kirishima tried hard not to laugh.

“It’s like, a bit past seven.”

“You’re not going already, are you?”

“My parents are probably worried and I should really get ready for school,” Kirishima smiled apologetically.

“What about breakfast?” Bakugou rubbed at his eyes.

Did… did Bakugou Katsuki just invite him to stay for breakfast?

“Aww man! I really want to! Like, really really want to! I should really go back though, I need to shower and get my bag together… I should probably do that English homework due for third period too.”

Bakugou glowered at him. “You’re complaining about your grades but you leave your homework this late? Fine. Get out of my house. You’re bringing all of your homework next time or nothing, I’m not going to waste my time tutoring some fucktruck who isn’t even making a full effort.”

“I’m sorry!” Kirishima winced. “In all fairness, I was too distracted trying to get you to sing for me! Which, I really, really really, really, really, really-”

“I get it!”

Really appreciate! So thank you! I’ll get stuff done this time, I promise!”

“That’s a shit excuse by the way, but whatever. I’m holding you to that.”

“Sure!” Kirishima grinned. He shuffled to the bathroom and got changed before ringing his parents and receiving an earful. He was reluctant to leave when they pulled up outside but the blond all but pushed him out of the house.

“I’ll see your fugly looking face later, now go.”

Kirishima laughed and waved bye. He had made so. Much. Progress! He was 98% sure that he and Bakugou were now Officially Friends and Bakugou said next time again while talking about studying - they had a routine! Bakugou genuinely wanted to tutor him and on top of all that, he had actually remembered and been considerate of Kirishima’s condition which meant so much to him. He was pretty sure this would be his biggest high school achievement - which probably sounded disappointing to most people, but Kirishima was already bursting with pride and happiness.

“You’re a real pal, Bakugou!” He called as he climbed into the car.

“You’re a real loser, you know that?” Bakugou smirked back.

Thank you so much to starofjems and Amy for pointing out my stupid mistakes and helping me to come up with this AU (and many other bakushima AUs!)
