Work Text:
The void is the same as always. Dark and empty. There is no sense of time or being, the only thing Lizzie can feel is the wind whipping past her as she falls.
Right, the same as always. She forgets life wasn’t always like this. At some point she was whole, full of life, and most of all, not in a constant state of falling.
Lizzie can’t remember the last time she spoke, or the last time she bothered to open her eyes. She knew there was no one to talk to but herself, nothing to see but void.
Normally, it is quiet.
Today it is not. Ghosts of whispers grace her ears, and she strains to hear. The words are not spoken in a language she understands, but there is a sudden, overwhelming presence. Someone is watching her.
Its almost like she can feel what they’re feeling. A pique of interest, a bit of suspicion, and then awe.
Excitement.
Whatever it is that’s watching her, its power is large. It almost feels as if it’s looming over her with it’s watchful eyes. Many, many eyes.
Lizzie has felt nothing but despair, then emptiness, since she fell into the void. The sudden change has her shivering. She doesn’t know if this thing watching her is friendly or not, but when it speaks she revels in the sound.
She dares to open her weary eyes. The thing before her seems massive to the backdrop of void. It hovers, then speaks, “Join us.” Distorted as it sounds, she understands and gives a slow nod.
There’s an antagonizing second of silent watching from the being with its many eyes, then a hand is offered in her direction. She isn’t sure how to reach it’s hand, but the question is answered shortly.
A dizzying hush of powerful words, and she’s no longer falling. She’s sitting on a cold, marble like floor, staring as if the feeling of free falling would never stop. Her body feels warm again, alive again.
Footsteps sound around her and she looks up. More of those beings surround her, looking a bit smaller than the one had in the void. The one that had found her, she assumes, kneels down in front of her, “We have saved you, and in return, you will become one of us.”
Lizzie stares, still lost. The being stands up to it’s full height, multiple sets of wings snapping closed. They remind her of… Grian.
It speaks as it walks away, “We will use her to get to Xelqua.” The other beings murmur agreements, “Teach her our ways.”
The other’s crowd closer to Lizzie’s somewhat limp body, staring down with knowing looks. She notes, just for a second, she can’t actually see their faces, just the many, many eyes surrounding them.
For the first time since she’d noticed the being, she felt afraid.
Xelqua…?
