“…Now that all that’s over…” Riku spoke a bit after, breaking the tense silence. “Can I say that Mao-kun has a mean hook? I was kinda cheering for him.”
Haicchi was amazing.
Midoriya closed his eyes, sighing. For some reason, flashes of the day came back without his control. Haicchi smirking. Haicchi's hand on his own. His words as he called him 'Ryucchi'. Not like his name.
Not like Deku.
"Like Ryusei. It fits, right?"
Like a shooting star.
Like a meteor.
"You’ll shine bright, Midoriya."
He passed the rest of the way home thinking about his words, feeling his face warming up like nothing before.“Sorry, I was just thinking how lucky I am.” I said, reaching for the bottle that was being offered to me. “Thanks, Ryu.”
For some reason, Midoriya’s face turned red all over, and the sight made me laugh once again.“I… I thought I would have to live like that for the rest of my life. Somehow, dealing with all this until I could leave everything behind but…” The boy sighed, still wiping some tears away. “Then I saw you on TV. The news and all that, and I… well, thought that maybe there could be some way to fix this. So, when you moved to Musutafu, I tried to look around everywhere for a way to contact you. Enji… well, he hates your guts, and if even mentioned your name, he would’ve…” At that, Todoroki paused, wincing with eyes closed, but then continued. “So, I found some rumors online about a Hijikata going to Aldera.” He then turned to me. “I’m sorry for… all this. I just… I couldn’t think of another way to find you and…”
“I think… I think you’ll be a hero no matter what you decide. You already have the spirit. And quirks? They’re just tools. One more or one less won’t change that, because a hero is just what you are. So… in the end, what is this for you? One for All, I mean.”
Midoriya stared at me, eyes wide and shiny. There was something… strange in the way he looked at me. Something that I couldn’t quite name but felt… warm.“...Ryu? You good?”
“Oh. Yes, I’m okay.” Midoriya said, nodding slowly to himself. “I just… Who is this Natsu-senpai?”
I blinked, confused about the question, because I was sure I told Midoriya about him… And yet, trying to recall… oh shit.
“Shoot, I could’ve sworn I told you about Natsu-senpai." I said, remembering I never gave him names when I spoke about him. "He’s… uhm, a friend of the family? Riku practically adopted the guy after a… well, a case, and he comes from time to time." I added, hoping Midoriya would connect the dots. "It was he who gave us the idea of the new school, since he’s going there too.” Midoriya nodded slowly, that weird face revealing nothing. Close by, I heard a whisper from All Might that sounded like ‘rival’ or something like that. “Everything all right, Yagi-san?”
“Uh? N-No, nothing’s wrong!” The guy said, frantically shaking his head. Yeah, that wasn’t suspicious at all. -
