Summary:
Zoro can't seem to stop catching tics from his crewmates
-
It starts with Robin, shockingly enough.
The quiet, elusive woman doesn't make much noise to latch onto.A soft 'fufufu' escapes Zoro's throat before he can suppress it. It catches him off guard. At first, he thinks it's just a one-off. One of those tics that comes and goes.
Then, he does it again, and again, and again.
The crew is used to his tics by now, but this one makes them all go quiet when they hear it.
Another 'fufufu' is forced past his lips, accompanied by a jerk of his head.
“Hey! You stole Robin's laugh,” Luffy says.
Zoro blushes and looks away. “Didn't mean to..”He hates catching tics. The ones he has are bad enough without the added embarrassment of mimicking someone. He especially hates it when it's one of his friends.
“It's alright, swordsman-san. I'm honestly flattered,” Robin teases. She knows damn well that's not how it works.
“I can't control it!”“Don't yell at a lady, shithead!” Sanji yells from the kitchen.
“Fuck off, shit-cook—fufufu—fuck!”The others laugh, not mockingly, thankfully. Zoro actually likes it when people laugh. It makes him feel like it's not a disorder, it's just a little quirk.
Still, it's embarrassing. He hopes he doesn't catch anymore from the crew.
“That doesn't make me happy at all, you bastard!”
It's not a high-pitched voice that says it. In fact, it's a deep teen's voice.
Luffy blinks at Zoro, who just sighs through his nose. He mutters a 'sorry'. Luffy just chuckles.
“Shishishi! Zoro is collecting pieces of us!” He says in his weird poetic way.
The swordsman rolls his eyes. He can only hope Chopper doesn't take offense to it. He was really hoping to not catch anymore.
It's rare for him to catch anything in the first place, let alone a longer phrase like that.
That's what he tells Chopper when he inevitably tics in front of him.
“That's so fascinating! I still have more research to do! You're so cool, Zoro!”
“That doesn't make me happy at all, you bastard!” Zoro shouts and twitches. Then, much softer, he says, “Thanks, Chopper. You're the best.”As predicted, the reindeer does a flustered dance. “That doesn't make me happy at all, you bastard!”
Zoro twitches again and swallows his next tic.
-
“SUPER!” Zoro yells mid-rep. He almost drops his barbell from the shock. The entire deck goes quiet.
Zoro freezes under the sudden stares. Fuck, this is so embarrassing.
“Sor-SUPER! SUPER!” He yells again, cutting himself off. He's thinking about it too much, and it's making everything worse.
Franky looks like he's about to cry. “Bro..”
“Don't start!”“You're just copying everyone, huh, marimo?” Sanji teases. Zoro levels a glare with him, but his head jerks, and he yells 'super' again.
Franky clears his throat and shouts, “SUUUPER!”
“SUPER! SUPER!” Zoro jerks more as he yells. Franky shouts right back at him, triggering his tic and making it worse.
-
“Are you mocking me, you shitty moss?” Sanji growls. An excuse! He can just play it off like it isn't a tic! He silently thanks whoever made Sanji for making him so oblivious.
He sets his jug down and stands for when a fight inevitably breaks out.
“You—Nami-swan!” Zoro shouts and jerks. Well, there goes that plan. Blush rises to his cheeks in embarrassment.
He grits his teeth to prevent any of his other new tics from spilling out.
Sanji—instead of laughing or mocking—softens.
“Ah. Am I triggering you, marimo?” He asks softly. Zoro hates it. He doesn't want to be treated like he's delicate.
“What do you care?”“You had a tic attack last week because Franky kept triggering you, Zoro,” Nami says flatly. He scowls. He doesn't want to be reminded of his own weakness.
“You aren't weak, you idiot. I would just rather not hear your voice,” Sanji spits.
“Fuck off, Curly. At least I don't sound like my balls haven't dropped yet.”
“You piece of—”Nami sighs as the two boys start fighting. She really is surrounded by idiots.
In the following days, Sanji noodled just as much, but the nickname 'Nami-swan' didn't show up as often.
When it did, it was followed by a deeper voice squawking it back to him.
