Chapter Text
“....y… he…. Hey!”
The person in the cot is shaken awake, his teal eyes blown wide in surprise at the short woman in armor with a strange tattoo on her face as he jolts away almost falling off the cot.
“S-sorry-” she holds her hands up to ease the man's shock “-I didn't mean to frighten you that much. You ok?” she settles in the chair behind her.
The man sits up, a little less startled, and answers, “other than my back being sore I'm all good, thanks.”
“Yea, at least no Darkspawn came while you were down…”
“Darkspawn?” The man has a confused look on him.
“You… Don't know what Darkspawn are?” worry crossed the woman's face.
“Honestly, I can't remember anything except vague memories and my name”
She grimaces “Yikes… it's alright, I'll show you the ropes around here and see if we can help with your amnesia. Names Evka.”
“Nice to meet you Evka, I'm–”
The man was cut off by a loud horn and sudden yelling started to grow louder and more violent. “Welp, guess learning your name and explaining something else will have to hold out for a moment. Stay here or follow me!” Evka yells as she runs out. The man jumps out of the cot and follows her outside only to be met with the sight of a battle between humans and unknown humanoid creatures. He's dumbstruck with what's going on that he didn't see one of the weird humanoids with strange veins covering it's body running up to him.
As he tried to dodge, landing on his ass, a blade strikes the humanoid’s neck, cutting it clean off. The man looks to see who the blade belongs to and sees a very tall man with horns, one being made of what looks to be amethyst, and elvish looking ears. Something in the back of his mind is telling him this person is either dressing up or he isn't where he belongs. He's leaning to the latter.
“You alright there?” The man with horns speaks with a deep voice, if he yelled he'd probably get everyone to listen to him.
“Thanks to you, yea. I think I need a weapon for the sake of protection”
“Hey, stranger! over here! Pick something out!”
The man on his ass turns to see Evka in front of a bunch of weapons and waving her hands to get him to go over there. Both he and the other guy run over with 2 others following him. At least their human but what's with the weird staff with a skull on it? And can a saber really be a good weapon?
“Hey Evka, you know where the Darkspawn came from?” Horns, the man's gonna call him that till he learns his name, speaks as if he'll be the one to fix whatever is going on. But what he called the creatures caught his attention.
“Darkspawn? That's what they are? Eugh, at least it kinda fits,” The man rummages through the weapons to find something that fits him.
Evka nods, “yep, those are Darkspawn, and they are not fun to deal with and get annoying fast. For your question Rook (“oh that's his name” the man whispers to himself) I'm not sure where they are from. It would help immensely if you did go figure out where they are coming from so we aren't swarmed by them. Again.”
Rook nods, “absolutely, we wouldn’t want you Grey Wardens losing each other to hoards of Darkspawn. Even the Ogres give me nightmares sometimes”
Evka laughs, “you and me both Rook, it's worse for me considering those things are HUGE compared to me”
The two share a laugh and the man rummaging through the weapons finds what he wants and puts on the holsters, then sheaths the long sword and dagger. Then grabs a bow and quiver of arrows and straps those on.
“I probably should get a different outfit but I know for a fact we don't have time.”
“No kidding,” Evka looks the man over were all the weapons look like they how how unpractical his top shirt is, “It looks like your extremely fat or something”
“Yea that tracks. I would ask if I could go with Rook but I feel I might get in the way”
“It would be good practice, you know.” Rook smiles to Evka who sighs, but looks like they got an idea.
“Wait… maybe… ok yes you may go with them to get used to fighting but bring back with you a vial of Darkspawn blood. I can't explain why as we don't have time but I swear I'll explain later”
Rook and the man look at each other in confusion. The man shrugs and says, “uhh sure, but I'm holding you to that promise.”
Evka nods, “understandable, of course Rook, you and the others can't be around when I explain it”
Rook nods in understanding “Grey Warden business, I get that from Davrin enough”
The man with long black hair and serious demeanor speaks “I asked him how a Grey Warden becomes a Grey Warden. He said it was taboo to say”
The man with the skull cane added “I had a bit of a worse answer. I had asked why the tradition for Grey Wardens before they die is to go to the deep roads and kill as many Darkspawn before perishing. He simply asked Assan to peck at my feet so I'd leave! Quite rude to be honest.”
“Everyone has their secrets, even the Shadow Dragons ourselves.”
Raven snorted, “care to share, Rook?”
While rolling his eyes, Rook responds, “we may be dating but I'm not spilling those secrets”
“Worth a shot at least” Raven chuckles
The man coughed, grabbing everyone's attention making them realize work needed to be done.
“Ah, your right. Apologies,” Rook nods his head to the man.
Raven chuckles, “I'm sorry as well, before we go, however, we should know your name”
The man closed his eyes, remembering vaguely of another man close to him calling to him. All he could see of the man is a pair of beautiful golden eyes and long purple hair before the memory disappears. He opens his eyes and looks to Rook, who can see a hint of sorrow in his teal, draconic-looking eyes.
“My name is Raihan. And so far that's all I can remember of myself”
