Maybe it was when he was stitching runes into his and Sammy’s jeans to keep them from ripping so easily, or when he started chanting cleansing spells under his breath when his father and brother were out of whatever dingy motel room they were inhabiting for the night, or when he started mixing salves right alongside breakfasts in the morning while Sammy slept in.
The first time he realized just how much he’d learned was when, as his father described the contents of a hex bag he’d found, Dean was able to figure out off the top of his head exactly what it was meant to do.
