Work Text:
Vlad looks at himself.
Vlad Plasmius stares at Vlad Masters’ pathetic husk, and boggles that he ever could have come out of something as weak and ill-starred as that.
He giggles. His old humanity is trying to breathe! He’s coughing up blood! That’s so ridiculous.
Plasmius raises a claw and slits a neat little line on one forearm. Perfectly green! And it seals up without a hint of a flaw.
He grins, soaring further from the dirty ground below. His body gets to its feet, stumbling.
Off to one side, the-
The other Fenton child, the red one. The human. That one.
Right, her. She’s in the flimsy suit that extended from-
-her weapon. Steel and wires. He could shred it. Why shouldn’t he? He’s a ghost! No one can make him do anything he doesn’t want, now! He’s the one who gets what he wants, and-
Hm. Hmmm. What does he want?
He floats. He ignores the Fenton moving towards his discards. They’re irrelevant.
Hmm. Well, obviously, he wants to be powerful. To have all of the power! He can be the most powerful, but- how?
Hmmmmm. Hm. He did-
Well, not him exactly. It was another Vlad who acquired the Ring of Rage, stealing it right from the ol’ ghost king himself. Ha.
Now, that hadn’t been half bad, had it? He’d gotten very, very close to winning. But-
Ugh. That boy. The first Fenton child, the little half-ghost. Disgusting little pest that he is. Disobedient. Ridiculous.
No wonder the other Vlad was defeated so easily. He couldn’t even manage to properly destroy the things he – again – failed to control! That’s twice over a failure. Ugh. Disgusting.
Plasmius looks down at his body. The red Fenton child is trying to revive it, or preserve it, somehow. An idiotic and entirely pointless act; he’s passed any need to keep that meat-sack around.
And he does owe that odd child one, doesn’t he-
For so kindly relieving him of his old mortal coil and cage. Well, then, he can save the little Fenton some trouble and pay off that debt all at once. No sense in leaving such a thing to hang where it is, where the chit might get ideas past her station to call on him about it.
He flexes his claws: sharp, stronger than any physical material could be. He remembers the feeling of hunger.
He dives.
