Wrapped in Your Love

Summary:

Adam hurries home to care for his sick girlfriend

Work Text:

If there was one thing anyone could say about Adam Sackler, it was that he rarely, if ever, got sick. Those that knew him well always remarked he had a superhuman immune system of sorts.

Of course, that didn’t mean his girlfriend, Amelia, didn’t get sick. And now, she just so happened to be battling a nasty case of the flu. A really nasty case.

As much as Adam wanted to stay home and take care of her, he still had things to do today. He had an audition in Manhattan which he knew would take the better part of his morning. Every chance he could, he texted Amelia to make sure she was ok and for the most part, she was. She had mostly short answers confirming that she was still alive, though Adam knew she was probably masking how bad she was feeling, much like always.

As much as he understood why she was that way, it made him feel bad. Her last boyfriend was a jack wagon who made her feel guilty whenever she was sick or hurt, so she always hid it. The moment he learned that, Adam vowed to be different. He made a promise to himself that he would always take care of her whenever she was sick. This time being no different.

Once his audition was over, Adam hurried back home to their couple’s shared studio apartment in Bushwick. He made a super quick stop at the local bodega to grab some soup for Amelia, some sports drinks, and a few other necessities before heading home.

Amelia had yet to respond to his text, and he was starting to get worried.

She just napping, he reasoned to himself as he neared the pre-war apartment building on Dekalb Ave. Adam hoped he was right.

He climbed the stairs two at a time and entered the tiny studio space.

The TV was on some show Adam didn’t recognize and Amelia was asleep on the couch. He went to turn off the TV when she woke up.

“Hey,” she sleepily greeted him as she sat up, rubbing the sleep from her blue eyes. “How’d your audition go?”

“Fine,” he replied. Adam took a pause at what she was wearing. “Is that my sweatshirt?”

Amelia just nodded. The dark blue hoodie was obviously not hers as it was at least two sizes too big for her. The sleeves hung well over her hands, making her look like a tiny pixie in it.

“I honestly didn’t notice until I put it on,” she said. “I just grabbed the first thing I saw in the closet.”

Adam smiled. “It’s cute on you,” he said.

That got a chuckle out of her.

“Did you take your medicine?” he asked her as he handed her the soup.

She nodded. “I took some just after you left.” She took the soup and took a sip.

Adam picked up the remote and was about to change the show when Amelia gave him a cute look. He set the remote down. “So, what is this show?”

     “Bridgerton,” she simply said.

Adam inwardly groaned to himself. “Guess we’re watching this shit…”

This was not on his watch list. Still, he could deal with it if it meant Amelia was happy. That was always his top priority.
